Cycling: Syamil stuns seniors
By : Arnaz M. Khairul

KEDAH扴 national junior rider Syamil Baharum caused a sensation when he upset seniors Faizal Mohamed Noh and Harrif Salleh to win the 500m time trial in the National Junior Circuit in Bandar Penawar yesterday.

That came on the back of a strong showing by Kedah riders under former national great Rosman Alwi, who has transformed a programme in the State into one capable of matching the national programmes.

The Open event was run as a support event for the Under-14 and Under-16 competitions, but Syamil chose the occasion to prove that he should be considered for the Asian Junior Championships in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, in August.

Syamil, 18, clocked 33.987s to outclass the 24-year-old Faizal and Harrif, who had just returned from a strong showing in the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Cup last weekend.

Rosman, the Kedah coach, backed Syamil抯 charge for a spot on the national team for the Asian Championships, and stating that the rider has to work harder if he wants to confirm his spot.

"He抯 already on the list of riders (for the Asian Championships), although he抯 been training with us. Our job here is to produce the riders, and I guess we抳e proven to be doing alright," said Rosman.

Kedah also dominated the Under-16 boys 500m time trial with Fattah Amri Zaid bagging the gold with a time of 36.664s, Bandar Penawar Sports School抯 Fakhruddin Daud taking silver with 36.709s and Fattah抯 twin brother Farhan getting bronze with 36.775s.

The Terengganu development programme continues to be a great production line with its Under-14 sprints team led by 500m time trial winner Sofian Nabil Bakri, clocking an impressive 38.190s to edge BPSS抯 Arfy Qhairani Imran for the gold.

Results: Boys - Under-14 - 500m time trial: 1 Sofian Nabil Bakri (Ter) 38.190s, 2 Arfy Qhairani Imran (BPSS) 38.635s, 3 Asmui Ali (Ter) 39.084s;

Under-16 - 500m time trial: 1 Fattah Amri Zaid (Ked) 36.664s, 2 Fakhruddin Daud (BPSS) 36.709s, 3 Farhan Amri Zaid (Ked) 36.775s;

Open - 500m time trial: 1 Syamil Baharum (Ked) 33.987s, 2 Faizal Mohd Noh (NSC) 34.099s, 3 Hariff Salleh (NSC) 34.099s;

Girls - Under-14 - 500m time trial: 1 Jupha Somnek (BPSS) 42. 148s, 2 Nurfatin Salha Abu Seman (Ked) 44.183s, 3 Hasmira Abu Hassan (Ked) 44.281s;

Under-16 - 500m time trial: 1 Narissara Sampong (BPSS) 41.543s, 2 Zahra Anuawar (BPSS) 42.159s, 3 Nurain Malek (NS) 43.019s;

Open - 500m time trial: 1 Fatehah Mustapa (NSC) 37.867s, 2 Ruszatul Zanariah Yusof (NSC) 38.817s, 3 Muslihah Salim (Sel) 39.492s

oh..yg depan tu di panggil Crankset..dia punya depan yg 3 tingkat tu its refer as chain ring..
yg belakang pulak yg ko kata ada 7..deme panggil cassette.

Tu yang kalau 7x3 = 21 spd..
Cassette tu if for roddie ada sampai 10 dah..
MTB skang rasanya 9 je..blom 10 lagi

gear kecik.? kalau refer pada cassette tu mcm yg ko punya 7.
actually tak jugak..tapi ikut pemahaman ler...biasanya kalau MTB Chainring depan untuk most terrain biasanya akan guna chairning no. 2, kalau nak tukar pon yg cassette (cog) belakang je...so actually yang depan tu mmg jarang2 sgt tuka, just play around dengan yang cogset belakang..

wherelse ada steep climbing ke..maybe tuka kepada chain ring ke no. 3...tapi kalau kaki kuat climbing guna chairing no. 1 mmg respek la.. , mcm aku climbing still chainring no. 2 tapi cogset maybe no 8 or 9 teeth..

nak cerita pasal cogset gan crank nih dia technical sikit...sebab each gear ada ratio dia..nak mudah guna panduan atas tuh...

7 = kecik = power = laju? gitu?

kau pakai 8/9 tu kira kecik la ek? power betul.

aku pakai yg depan tu paling kecik = 3. yang belakang pakai nombor 2

tak larat la.

seems ko punya cogset ada 7 so 7 paling besar...so 8, 9 tuh yang paling besar ler..

moderate cycling..make sure kaki tak 'tense' nak kayuh..so 'gearing' tu agak ringan dan mudah kayuh...jangan la pulak ringan sangat..nanti nampak cam katun...tapi kalau nak tau yg cam katun nih la org training untuk improve Cadence....kalau ko boleh kayuh cam katun about 10km per-day dah cukup..

Stgh org yang tak tau..dia guna gearing besar, konon nak laju..kaki guna banyak energy nak kayuh.. tu silap..kejap je dah lelah...

so my suggestion ---> Guna chainring no:2 belakang 5 or 6 or 7..cuba tengok..mana yag sesuai..
seems ko 7 speed aku rasa maybe 6 or 7

ha'ah la. selalu jadi kat aku. bila nak sampai roundabout, aku tukar la gear sebab nak laju, tapi sebab gelabah, tertukar pada yg besar. macam katun la aku mengelintin nak lepas roundabout tu.

Cycling Le Tour de France : Cancellara wins prologue

LONDON: Switzerland抯 Fabian Cancellara (above), riding for the CSC team, won the opening prologue of the 2007 Tour de France, a 7.9km individual time trial, here yesterday.

Cancellara, who dons the leader抯 yellow jersey, beat home Germany抯 Andreas Kloden (Astana) by 13sec in the prologue held around the streets of the British capital.

United States rider George Hincapie took third, 23s adrift with home favourite Bradley Wiggins crossing the line in the same time in fourth.

Pre-Tour favourite Alexandre Vinokourov took seventh.

Cancellara, 26, is the time trial world champion and was securing here his second opening prologue win in the Tour de France after capturing the 2004 edition in Liege.

The rider known in the peloton as Spartacus won last year抯 Paris-Roubaix classic.

While he was all smiles Australia抯 Stuart O扜rady had a frustrating first day of this year抯 Tour when he fell without serious injury after his bike collided with a plastic cone on a bend.
