After five weeks into the season, I'm really impress with the San Diego Chargers. Based on the first 5 weeks, in my opinion, the Chargers is the best team in the NFL. Somebody may say, what about the Bears (Chicago NFL team)? Well, I'm impressed with them too. They have a really good defense. However, I like the Chargers more because of their running back, LaDanian Tomlinson, and their quarterback, Phillip Rivers. Yes, Rivers had never started in the NFL until this season, but being Drew Brees understudy will pay off greatly. As for Rex Grossman, I really need to see him stay healthy for the whole season. That's why I put San Diego in front of the Bears at this time.

As for other teams, I like the Eagles, the Patriots and Indianapolis. They are some of the most balance teams in the NFL. I will put Seahawks too, but not until their MVP (Shawn Alexander) is back from injury and still show that he's not missing a bit before he went down.

As for Denver and New Orlean, I have to reserve my judgement. I like Broncos' defense a lot but I like to see 'The Snake' back to his last season form. The defense can be on the field for so long only, no matter how good they are. As for the Saints, I like to see more games of them playing against teams such as the Falcons, the Eagles and Dallas. Saints will have a very tough schedule ahead of them. If they go 3-1 in the next 5 weeks (they have a bye during that 5 weeks), they will be in good position to shoot for the playoff this season.

Romo starting QB?

IRVING, Texas - Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells wasted no time ending the suspense here at Valley Ranch on Wednesday, announcing that Tony Romo would start at quarterback Sunday against the Panthers.

Parcells said his move to replace veteran Drew Bledsoe, who not only started the first six games this season, but all 16 last year, is in the best interest to win games this season.

"Anytime you do something like this, it's something you think about for a long time," Parcells said. "I just need to make an attempt to do something to alter what we've done so far. We're 3-3. We've got 10 games to go. It's a long way from being over. But time is urgent for us."

Parcells benched Bledsoe at halftime of Monday night's loss to the Giants, with the Cowboys trailing 12-7. Bledsoe was sacked four times and threw a costly interception from the Giants' 4-yard line just before halftime.

But Romo didn't exactly turn the tide. In fact, his first pass of the game was intercepted, resulting in a quick New York touchdown. Overall, Romo threw three interceptions, one of which returned 96 yards for a touchdown, and was sacked twice. He also passed for 227 yards and two touchdowns.

"I'm hopeful, the way our team is structured right now, he might be able to do a couple of things for us," Parcells said of Romo. "But he's got to be more careful with the ball."

And that has been Bledsoe's problem as well. In the first six games, Bledsoe threw eight interceptions and lost a fumble. He also was sacked 16 times, including 13 times in the last three games alone.

Romo will become the fifth quarterback to start a game for the Cowboys since Parcells took over in 2003, the year Quincy Carter started all 16 games and led the Cowboys to their last playoff appearance. Vinny Testaverde started 15 games in 2004, with Drew Henson starting one, but he was pulled at halftime of the Thanksgiving game against Chicago.

Bledsoe took over in 2005 and has compiled a 12-10 record as a starter.

Indianapolis at Denver
NFL.com wire reports

DENVER (Oct. 25, 2006) -- For the second succesive season, the Indianapolis Colts are rolling through their schedule on the strength of their high-powered offense. That unit will get its toughest test of the season Oct. 29 when the Colts take on the Denver Broncos and their league-best defense at Invesco Field.

Indianapolis (6-0) won its first 13 games last season before dropping two of its final three regular-season contests. Peyton Manning has his team overwhelming opposing defenses again this season, as the Colts have scored 171 points, second-most in the AFC.

Manning and the Colts, though, rarely have succeeded in the situation they will face. Manning has not thrown a touchdown pass in two games at Denver, and has thrown one interception and fumbled twice -- losing one. He threw only two passes against the Broncos at Invesco on Jan. 2, 2005, as the Colts rested their starters in preparation for the playoffs.

The Colts have struggled in Denver longer than Manning has been their quarterback, going 1-6 there, including 1-3 since moving to Indianapolis from Baltimore. The Colts' only victory in Denver came Nov. 24, 2002, a 23-20 victory.

Indianapolis, though, has won four of the past six in the series, including back-to-back playoff games at the RCA Dome, and coach Tony Dungy doesn't believe the venue has anything to do with why the Colts have had a tough time in road games against the Broncos.

"We never feel like we're going to win (at the RCA Dome) because it's noisy, so we don't feel like they're going to win because of the altitude or the grass or whatever," said Dungy, whose team plays at 5-1 New England next week. "You just have to play better than them."

The Colts certainly did that against in Week 7 as Manning threw four touchdown passes in a 36-22 victory against Washington. Duplicating that offensive performance in Week 8, however, could be very difficult against a Denver defense that has allowed 44 points this season, by far the fewest in the NFL.

The Broncos' 96-27 home record since 1991 is the best in the league.

Denver's defense has had to be good to compensate for the team's anemic offense. The first-place Broncos have given up 13.2 points per game, second-to-last in the NFL.

Jake Plummer's recent woes have led to speculation he might soon be replaced by first-round draft pick Jay Cutler, but Plummer will remain the starter -- at least for another week. Plummer has a passer rating of 60.4, which ranks 32nd in the league. He has suffered seven interceptions -- the same number he had all last season -- and only four touchdown passes.

Champ Bailey is a key member of Denver's tremendous defense.

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan had a chance to quiet the escalating Plummer-Cutler debate Oct. 23, but kept his options open.

"It's not my job to share with you if I want to make a change at any position," Shanahan said. "When we do make a decision, we'll make the decision in the best interest of our organization. I will tell you this -- Jake Plummer will be our quarterback against Indy."

Losing left tackle Matt Lepsis for the season certainly won't help Plummer's cause. Lepsis tore a ligament in his right knee during the first half of a 17-7 victory against Cleveland on Oct. 22.

"Anytime you lose one of your top players for the season, it's always a pretty good punch," Shanahan said. "It's a knockout punch almost."

The Broncos inserted Erik Pears in Lepsis' place, but Shanahan said that might not be a permanent move. He said the team could switch right guard Cooper Carlisle to left tackle and put rookie Chris Kuper into Carlisle's position.

Denver's offensive numbers could get a boost against an Indianapolis defense that has struggled, giving up 20.3 points per game, but Dungy feels his group is improving.

Two weeks after the coach used the term "soft" to describe the team's run defense, he sounded optimistic after limiting Washington to 114 yards rushing. Indianapolis improved its defensive ranking from a league-worst 32nd to 31st, although its 5.2 yards per carry remains the worst in the NFL.

Defensive tackle Anthony McFarland, who the Colts acquired in an Oct. 17 trade with Tampa Bay, has contributed to the improvement by helping to stabilize the line.

In the Jan. 2, 2005 meeting, the last between the teams, Plummer threw two touchdown passes as the Broncos clinched a playoff berth with a 33-14 victory.

Manning needs 26 yards to move by former Buffalo quarterback Jim Kelly for 13th on the career list for passing yards.
