Arab Street is at the center of Singapore's Malay community, which is predominantly Muslim. It is overlooked by a mosque and its shops sell Muslim head-scarves, robes and prayer mats. The area was once the home of Malay royalty.
Another Malay student, Rabiatul Adawiya, 22, also felt Mahathir was wrong: "I have had equal opportunities in education, the meritocratic system here definitely works."

Itu sebablah, kalau orang melayu tak nak maju...jangan pulak nak cakap tentang kaum lain. Jangan sentiasa cari alasan utk menyembunyikan segala kesalahan...mengaku saja lah. Semua dah dapat, tetapi tak maju jugak pulak nak banding dengan orang melayu kat singapore...
Tanyalah orang melayu kat singpaore...mereka lebih pandang rendah orang melayu di Malaysia lah. Jatuh standard sahaja.
Kesan DEB sekarang kita ternampak orang2 mula risah...hanya nak tunggu dan tuntut saja hak keistimewaan...ini satu peristiwa yang sangat memalukan...kalau orang melayu masih ingat soal sebegini, maka saya berasa sgt malu kerana dgn dua2 belah kaki tangan saya pun sendiri tak dapat bertanding dgn org lain pulak nak hidup dalam perlindungan pada usia lebih 30tahun.

Angela perhaps you should not read The Star every day from oversea then Come back and experience it yourself, then only choose to go away if you don't like what you experienced.
If Malaysia compromises only of KL and PJ, then yes we can emulate what Mr Lee did to/for Singapore. Unfortunately we aren't. Thats something I feel a lot of urbanites forget.
So many people migrate out of Singapore as well, and they end up very successful overseas. I personally know more than 30 such Singaporeans who are living the life away from Singapore. Why dont you ask them to go back to their home country?
In short, migration is nothing new. And one thing about the Chinese; the community sticks together too much. Which is good if you are in China.
Have fun overseas okay? Meanwhile I will continue living in this racist country full of racist people drinking my racist teh tarik watching racist tv shows at a racist mamak stall with my racist multi-coloured friends. All paid-for with my racist (but unbelievable high) salary thanks to my racist company.

We must not forget that our ancestors were also immigrants from poor countries, who came to Singapore to seek a better life. Our economy has matured. For some, Singapore ain't the best place to make a quick (and big) buck, so they have no choice but to expand overseas. That's not a bad thing what. For others, they may not be able to adapt to the new economy and they realize that perhaps if they go abroad, they will have more opportunities. The KTM applauds this gung-ho spirit of adventure (again along the same lines of "dare to dream").
Unfortunately, there is also a group of disgruntled emigres. These are the people who feel that they have been shortchanged by the System (or Garmen, whatever) and decided that the grass is greener on the other side. For some, it is indeed greener lah, 'cos Singapore is too small to support their special talents (by paying for it lah). For others, they cannot make it in Singapore, also cannot make it abroad, but die die must act like they did good. *sigh* These people have the KTM's sympathies.
