Cricket: India score second successive victory
15 Feb 2007

INDIA抯 Under-19 team beat Sri Lanka by 62 runs in their second one day match at the Kinrara Oval yesterday.

It was India抯 second win over the Sri Lankans after Tuesday抯 67-run victory.

The Sri Lankans, after yesterday抯 match, thus completed their tour of Malaysia which included winning the first round of the HSBC Malaysian Under-19 invitational tri-series on Feb 10 beating England in the final.

The second round of the series, with India replacing Sri Lanka, starts today. England and Malaysia are the other two teams. The final of the second round of the tri-series is on Feb 23. All fours teams are gearing up for the Under-19 World Cup which will be held in Kuala Lumpur next year. Electing to bat first having won the toss yesterday, India put up 251 runs in 50 overs with B. Sumanth (88) top scoring. His knock included one six and seven fours. Virat Kohli (25), Sunit Sharma (25), Sunny Sohal (21) and Sarabjeet Singh (19) were the batsmen with double figures.

Sri Lanka抯 medium pace bowler Thisara Perera and spinner Ashan Priyanjan picked two wickets each. In reply, Sri Lanka managed 189 runs in 43 overs, failing once again to make any headway against the pace of Iswas Chaudhary (3-24). Leg-spinner and captain Piyush Chawla, the second youngest Test player that India have produced after Sachin Tendulkar, took two wickets while off-spinner Swapiul Singh returned figures of 3-27 in 10 overs.

The Sri Lankans were especially troubled by Chawla, who made his mark in the Second Test against England in Mohali last year at the age of 17 years and 75 days, and capped it with the wicket of England captain Andrew Flintoff.

Cricket: Malaysia thrashed, coach slams players
16 Feb 2007
DEVINDER SINGH

AN embarrassing batting collapse saw Malaysia go down by 153 runs to England in the opening match of the second HSBC Under-19 Invitational Tri-Series at the Kinrara Oval yesterday.

Opening bats Faris Almas-Lee Rosmanizam (32) and Shafiq Sharif (17) had given the hosts an excellent start and were 63-2 from 15 overs when rain halted play.

When play resumed, Malaysia抯 target was revised to 235 runs from 44 overs after England, who batted first, had scored 246 for seven from 50 overs.

But England spin bowler Liam Dawson tormented the Malaysian batting when he grabbed five wickets for a miserly nine runs from six overs.

Dawson first bowled Faizal Abu Hassan for a duck to reduce Malaysia to 64-3 before having Norwira Zazmie Abd Halim (15) caught by Alex Wakely.

With the score at 76 runs Malaysia lost three quick wickets as Dawson accounted for Aminudin Ramly (seven) and Suharril Fetri Shuib (nought), both going out leg-before-wicket, before Ahmad Faiz Mohammad Noor (nought) was stumped off the bowling of Wakely.

Dawson then bowled Shahid Ali Khan (two) and had Hafiz Zaman Huri (one) out lbw before Wakely wrapped up the win with embarrassing ease by getting Hazrul Zainal (one) out lbw.

Malaysia lost eight wickets for an additon of just 19 runs after the rain break.

Earlier, Sam Northeast (70) and Billy Godleman (53) set England on their way with a 132-run opening partnership while Malaysia conceded 32 extras mainly through opening bowler Shahid who had 12 wides and four no-balls.

Such was the severity of the Malaysia抯 poor performance that coach Shahidul Alam Ratan lambasted his players immediately after the match.

Ratan, who is from Bangladesh, was overheard telling the players in the dressing room that he wondered whether they were took their responsibilities seriously.

He questioned the team抯 lack of commitment and said if they continued to play the way they did, they would not make the team for the Under-19 World Cup next February.

The coach warned them he would bring in other players, even if they were less skilled, to replace the current batch.

Cricket/World Cup: Further setback for Australia with Lee injury
16 Feb 2007

WELLINGTON: The depleted Australian cricket side suffered a further setback yesterday on the eve of the opening match against New Zealand with the likely loss of an injured Brett Lee.

But the injury to the Australian bowling spearhead has done little to lift the hopes of a full-strength New Zealand side who have consistently authored their own downfall this year.

Lee was taken to hospital for scans on his left knee and ankle after catching his sprigs in the outfield during fielding practice.

But the results are not due until after the first match in the Chappell-Hadlee series begins today, making it unlikely Lee will play.

If he is ruled out, Lee will join resting captain Ricky Ponting and wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist as well as the injured Andrew Symonds.

Batsman Michael Clarke is also in doubt after arriving in New Zealand on Wednesday with a hip problem.

This has produced an experimental Australian side with still unfamiliar names such as Adam Voges, Cameron White and Brad Haddin.

That Australia are on a two-match losing streak, after being whitewashed by England in the recent tri-series, offers the new blood the chance to engineer redemption.

Haddin, the heir apparent to Gilchrist, tops Australia抯 domestic one-day competition with 406 runs at 67.67, while Voges averages 40 at first-class level.

They are figures which offered little hope to New Zealand.

"We抳e taken a little bit from England beating them but we can抰 take too much," said rising New Zealand batting star Ross Taylor. "They抣l be hurting from that and they抳e still got a strong team."

New Zealand have reason not to take anything for granted, having won just six of their last 16 one-day internationals and only two of their last 22 against Australia.

In the recent tri-series in Australia, they consistantly went close to winning and just as consistantly came up short.

Sloppy fielding in one match and wayward bowling in another saw them lose to Australia by two wickets and then by eight runs.

Then timid batting after a rollicking start saw them fail by 14 runs to beat England for a place in the finals.

"We had a lot of close games over there and we should have won three of them," Taylor said.

"Hopefully, we can rectify that in these next three games."

In the six games played so far for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy

scene di malaysia ni masih belum meriah kerana pendedahan, liputan dan imbuhan yang tak mencukupi.  dah la cuaca panas langsung tak membantu..

tapi kalau dah reti main kriket ni, seronokkk..  selain build character, kriket ni membantu bina refleks kita..

kalau aku, rasa mahal.. tapi kalau ikut business sense, logik kot.  sebab game kriket ni bukan 1-2 jam.. atau 1 hari je..  makan hari-hari jugak..  takde break.. kena full-tiime coverage..  bayar broadcasating fee..  boleh tahan jugak la kos nak siarkan test series ni..
iklan pun sekali-sekala kalau sempat nak nyelit (so tak dapat nak defray kos tu melalui advertising)..

tapi kalau diorang kurangkan kos dan go for subscription volume, sesuwai sungguh..

Yeap, game kriket ni lama. Untuk 2 innings kurang2nya 2-3 hari . Kalau test match macam di Oval mahu 4 hari kekadang. Tapi the Britts memang tunjuk live those days ........la ni tak tau lah. Best bila tengok top teams main.............

Murder claim rocks cricket showcase

By Simon Evans

KINGSTON, Jamaica (Reuters) - Jamaican police launched a murder inquiry on Thursday into the death of Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer at the World Cup, saying he was strangled.

The death on Sunday was "due to asphyxia as a result of manual strangulation," according to a police statement read to a news conference at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston where Woolmer was found unconscious before he died on Sunday.

"Bob was a large man -- it would have taken some force," deputy commissioner Mark Shields said. "Hopefully we will bring the killers to justice as soon as possible. We will use every energy we possibly have to track down the killers." A day before the 58-year-old Briton died, leading contenders Pakistan were eliminated from the World Cup by debutants Ireland in a result which stunned cricket. The sport's governing body said the World Cup would continue despite the shock of Woolmer's murder which has completely overshadowed the seven-week tournament being played in the Caribbean for the first time.

'BETTING MAFIA'  There was growing media speculation on Thursday that Woolmer had fallen victim to a "betting mafia." Asked about these suggestions, Shields said: "Everything you have heard would be a line of inquiry." He said no stone would be unturned into discovering why Woolmer was murdered. It was known that he was writing a book at the time of his death but its contents were unknown. Shields said there could be one or more people involved in the actual killing but added that there was no evidence of forced entry into his hotel room. The police have seized the hotel's electronic security recordings as part of the investigation and are still awaiting results of toxicology and histology (science of examining body tissue) tests. Pakistan team media manager Pervez Mir, told Reuters on Thursday that the security at the hotel was too "lax" in his opinion.

  'GREAT SADNESS'
International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Malcolm Speed said: "We face shock and outrage and great sadness for Bob's family. There has been speculation that as a result of all this, the World Cup will be discontinued. That will not be the case. "Perhaps it will be a measure of the game and its resolve as to how we can complete this World Cup in view of this shock." He said the former London Metropolitan Police commissioner Paul Condon was standing by and willing to assist with the murder inquiry. Condon has been involved with helping the ICC fight corruption within the sport. Shields added that the Metropolitan Police, South African and Pakistan forces had been contacted over the investigation but so far the Jamaican police were working solely on the case. The Pakistan cricket team, who flew from Kingston to Montego Bay within Jamaica earlier on Thursday, said they were shocked by the latest development. "Tragic, yes, worrying yes, because we have a member of our team, a national coach of Pakistan who has been murdered and this is not something which can be taken lightly," Mir told reporters.  "We are all very worried right now."

KRIKET JEMPUTAN UKM

ari sabtu tgk kriket game kat padang ukm
ukm vs VI.

comment:

UKM
fielding cam hampeh. walaupun lawan budak skolah. in 25 overs they conceded 180 runs. giLAAA

batting:
boleh tahan. tapi cuma harap pd boundaries and sixes. singles/doubles very rare
kalau lawan team yg employs attacking type of bowling mmg xleh pegi punya
fielders pun ramai yg obese :kant:

VI

batting
very confident. mati 2 wiket jer. and first batsman dpt 107 runs. bravo!

bowling
aduiii... full toss terlalu byk. xda fast bowler. yg ada cuma medium fast.
tu pun x laju mana. not intimidating at all.
spinners - x menjadi sbb length terlalu panjang. bola x sempat nak spin pun

fielding
tight fielding. except 4 the fact yg terlalu byk bola2 yg dihentam secara menggila
sbb full tosss... mahsyukkk...
kena practise catching byk sikit sbb ada 2-3 kali miss catch wlpun patutnya mmg boleh amik wiket

overall
quite entertaining for a cricket junkie like me
