Duda would rather win Liga

Sevilla midfielder Duda has said that he would rather win La Liga than a consecutive UEFA Cup.

The Andalusians are in their second UEFA final in two seasons and could be the first team to win it twice in a row since fellow Spaniards Real Madrid over 20 years ago.

But Duda told The Record in his native Portugal: "I would prefer to win the Spanish league before the UEFA Cup.

"To win the best league in the world is a unique thing for a player."

The winger is pleased with the side's progress this season, particularly given the company they have been keeping domestically, but does not think this gives them the edge in their European clash with compatriots Espanyol.

"Only a select few - including us - are involved in the La Liga title fight," he continued. "But the [UEFA Cup] final nobody is the favourite and this time it's even more difficult.

"Two Spanish clubs in a European final is very impressive. Now Espanyol are in a great moment in their history and I'm sure Sevilla won't get an easy ride in Glasgow."

Espanyol 2-2 Sevilla
Sevilla won 3-1 on penalties

Sevilla won the Uefa Cup with a 3-1 penalty shoot-out win against Espanyol.

Adriano scored the first in a thrilling match with a lovely finish following a swift Sevilla break, but Alberto Riera levelled with a deflected shot.

Andres Palop denied Riera with a fine and the game looked to turn when Espanyol's Moises Hurtado was sent off for a second booking on 68 minutes.

Sevilla's pressure told when Kanoute turned in a Jesus Navas cross, but a goal from Jonatas sent it to penalties.

But having done the hard work of taking the game to a shoot-out, Espanyol's efforts from 12 yards were abject.

Palop saved from Luis Garcia, Jonatas and Marc Torrejon to take the headlines and keep Sevilla on course for a treble.

And Palop's heroics mean the Andalucians, who are third in La Liga and in the Copa del Rey final, also became the second team to retain the Uefa Cup after Real Madrid in 1986 following their success over Middlesbrough 12 months ago.
