Hai sunhine66,nice to meet you here..

Well,it seems we have different kind of taste in this matter. For me,Brittish accents have more class especially in term of pronouncing words. Those exotic pronunciations never fail to astonished me.

Thanks dex,

Having you and others with excellent  English proficiency as my online tutors will be like 'a bless from the sky'

Btw i want to ask you something. Is it a good thing to take dialogs from Hollywood movies as a tool to enhance our English proficiency? The father of my good friend said Hollywood movies do not make the best example for anyone who want to improve their English especially in verbal communication. They use too much jargons and some words do not compatible with standard international English. And personally I think the Americans (actor/actress/celebrity) tend to talk to fast, which make it hard for me to grasps the essence of the dialogs. Its even harder if they use ala cowboy(texas) dialect.

Brits for me are the best example for everyone who wish to improve their english communication, but beware of those variety of dialects especially someone who from Scotland or Ireland. Unfortunately there isn't much TV program from British in here. I think, English football and BBC are the only dominant TV programs from British that being broad casted here in Malaysia.

wants
his
many
jargon
omit and
American
(actors/actresses/celebrities)
too
grasp
It's
southern accent

his
however,
is from
many
broadcast

you are welcome nb -

actually you can use an idiom -  'a blessing in disguise' too -
(not so sure if it is appropriate or not - but it means -
something that at first appears to be bad or unlucky but is actually good -- )

some of the dialogues are great and you can use them to suit your papers or in
your communication -  and  you can omit some of the jargon and pick only necessary
words that  are appropriate to use -

of course some of them did talk too fast for us to grasp what in the world they were
talking about -  however, some were just fine and i am sure we can manage to learn
a thing or two from those movies -

i have no preference - both accents are great and fun -

your writing is great; keep up the good work nb -

i preferred american shows/program because we are being exposed to their program compared to british program since i was young.I don't think american slang are awful,i think it is easy to understand. Most tv english shows are from america i think they shouldn't be a problem to me to understand.for me british slang sometimes quite hard to understand, they tend to speak faster and hard for me to get the word.anyhow it is up for us to choose either america or british because at the end we are the one who is going to understand the slang.:victory:

Wah thanks dex for correcting my mistakes...

My writing was great?? Wahh i feel shy right now

Btw may I ask you two simple questions :

1. What is the different between 'will' and 'shall'? I can't really see much different between those words.

2. The different between 'sometime' and 'sometimes'. Why often I see peoples putting 's' for the word 'sometime' in their writings? It does confuse me.

I know those are very basic questions, however  until now I still don't(didn't?) know the right answer.

you are most welcome -

1. shall - largely used in american english -
- in british english it is used in questions or applies for invitations
eg: what shall i do? shall we dance?
"will we dance? is ridiculous -
- can be used for I/we instead of 'will'
- 2nd or 3rd person + shall is used to show extra willpower
for example - "Oh yes, you shall!"

anyway, when shall and will introduce questions, they have an important distinction in meaning -
shall asks for a preference or offers a polite suggestion, while will indicates future tense.
for instance:
a) "Shall we get a cup of coffee?" means "Do you want to get a cup of coffee?"

b) "Will we get a cup of coffee?" involves speculation about future events, such as:
"Do they serve coffee at this restaurant?" or "Is coffee included in the price of the meal?"

2. "Sometimes" refers to occasional occurrences. "Sometimes, I have nightmares."

"Some time" can refer to an uncertain amount of time, or an uncertain point the future.
"This equation will take some time" and "Let's go out to eat some time."

Sometime (an undefined time in a period of time)
e.g. See you again sometime.

Some time (an amount of time in a period of time)
e.g. It took some time before we saw the queen.

Sometimes (not regularly, not often, but now and then)
She sometimes comes to work by bike.

hope it helps -

Q; Star Supermarket is ....... Jalan Melati.

(in, at, on, under)

British English usually uses “in”

American English uses “on”.

But “at” is definitely wrong.

“Under” can only be right if Jalan Melati is a flyover built over Star Supermarket, which is unlikely!

“Along” is also sometimes used.

hi. long time no see. i just finished my final exam and finally i am home for one month holiday. last week i got an offer for internship programme in Australia. unfortunately, they did not want to hire students who got scholarship. the interview session was so simple that i thought that they only judging us by look.
i hate them. i try to improve my english for the interview session. but, it was unlucky because i could not really communicate well with them because the interview was to short .
