here's my opinion.

if you're willing to spend that amount of money...just wait for120Hz refresh rate rate model. and go for bigger screen...at least 50" and above.
Otherwise, save your $$ and get a non-branded cheap model like mine, and use the spare $$ for a good home theatre system that decodes Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA HD lossless ... future proofing for HD DVD and BLU RAY.

This is funny, all low/mid end Pioneer and Onkyo receivers that decodes these two are made in Malaysia but are meant for US/UK market...can anyone get these models in Malaysia?

If you really need to get branded LCD...better go for Sharp.

LED tv panels are coming out end of 2007....a 20" from Sony....next year a 27" from Toshiba....why so special? Only around 1cm thickness... contrast way better than LCD or plasma. lifespan from 100,000 to 1 million hours..Samsung's got a 82" LCD with LED backlight ,not the usual flourescent, priced at around 39200 UK pounds.

Forget SONY sound system as they are bad...Sony should continue to sell hi end audio systems in Malaysia like those they sell in UK.  Otherwise sound guaranteed to get distorted at higher volumes. Don't buy sound system based on looks...but on sound quality.

The looks you can get used to, but the bad audio quality you just can't.

Cheers...

Would you mind to show me some of 'Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA HD lossless' products.
I'm eager to learn more.

Also, can you post a picture of your home cinema?

-Thanks

Currently, I'm considering this 52' Sony LCD.

Actually, it come with speakers too during the Merdeka Promotion.

hi there...
Some HD DVDs/BLU RAYS are encoded with Dolby TrueHD/DTS HD MA(STER) lossless codec while others are encoded with PCM 5.1/Dolby Digital Plus. Look in http://hddvdstats.com/ & http://www.blu-raystats.com/

To enjoy these new codecs, the player will need to be able to decode these and send tne signals through its analogue outputs to the receiver. Otherwise, a receiver capable of doing this via HDMI will be needed.

There is a few RM1000++ to 2000++ receivers that should be able to handle this.

I'm sorry but my HTS is already 7 yrs old except for the LCD which is 2 mths old. So i won't post the pics now until i've upgraded them.

FYI, i'm using a YAMAHA VS-10 HTS in a box which costs RM2200 in year 2000.

Now i'm just waiting for the cheap HD DVD players from Taiwan. Should be available end of this year. Otherwise, i need to get a HD DVD writer to go with my PC. That's how i watch all those 1920 X 1080 videos, through the DVI output. Very sharp and better than all those demos you see in showrooms. Anyway, don't be mesmerised by demos alone ... try watching a recorded clip of HD broadcast from the US/UK/Japan. I'm compiling HD videos and have gotten around 40 hrs++ of content eg. live performances, movies, documentaries, demos etc.

If the price is an issue (branded high quality isn't cheap), you can try my style. Get a cheap non branded 42"LCD but must be able to display a minimum resolution of 1080i, a pc (minimum specs AMD 4200+ with 2 GB RAM & Nvidia's 8500, motherboard must be able to output 5.1 audio). And a good HTS to go with it. Once the HD DVD/ BLU RAY writer is added the price is more....but for thime being i'll wait for a HD DVD ROM of around USD170. Then you can start watching all those Hi def content. Actually you can watch hi def content with the DVD ROM. Here's how..

Just burn all the HD videos with x264 codec in an MKV container onto a D9. I've got CARS(disney) and THE REVENGE OF THE SITH in HD on a Verbatim dual layer disc with this codec. I've got others too, but the file sizes are too large to be burned onto a single D9. IN THE CUT is 15GB++...for that i'll need a HD DVD single layer...for the time being i just zip them and store them onto mutiples of D5. These are encoded with MPEG2...sigh...an old and inefficient codec. and they are all in glorious 1920 X 1080 resolution with 5.1 Dolby Digital running up to 448kbps.

Shouldn't be more than RM9k minus the HTS. That's how much i paid for mine.

If i'm buying new speakers, it will have to be mordaunt short. The whole speaker package should be around RM9k++ for 6.1/7.1.

Spending more is overkill, at least in my opinion.

But if needed, go for the ProAc set for RM28000++

Cheers...& thanks.

oh..forget about that Sony...it's a 2nd generation...the latest is now 5th generation.

the response time is 8ms for that model whereas the latest Sharp is 6ms and can go to 4ms with quick shot mode(120Hz). Sharp's latest lcd's native contrast is now 3000:1 while the Sony X200 series is 1500:1

Still your decision.....btw... ...if you want to spend that amount of money.

Cheers..
