Astronomers Discover 28 New Exoplanets And Four Multi-Planet Systems

Artist's rendering of the planet orbiting the star, Gliese 436. Its diameter is 3.95 times that of Earth, and its mass is 22.6 times that of Earth. The planet's atmosphere is probably composed of hydrogen and helium that scatters blue light preferentially by Raleigh scattering, as in the Earth's atmosphere, making the atmosphere blue. Clouds reflect the orange-red light of the M dwarf star. The planet was detected by precise Doppler measurements of the star, Gliese 436, by the California & Carnegie Planet Search Team.
