Search for World War II bombs
KOTA KINABALU: A massive search is under way in the sea off Kota Kinabalu for explosives dating back to the Second World War following the Royal Malaysian Navy抯 discovery of three bombs and two mortars at Pulau Udar Besar near here.
The navy抯 Region Two commander Laksamana Muda Datuk Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin said the explosives were unearthed by navy divers searching for the debris of another WWII bomb they had detonated on June 28.
揥e believe Pulau Udar Besar and the nearby Pulau Sepanggar were once bombing targets during the war. As such, it is likely that there are many more bombs yet to be discovered in this area, |
