Cop dies after fall from m-cycle

TELUK INTAN: A 49-year-old policeman died at the Ipoh Hospital yesterday, nine hours after being flung from his motorcycle when the machine ran over a piece of wood along Federal Route 1 near Tapah.

L/Cpl Abd Halim Tan, attached to the operations room of the Tapah police headquarters, sustained serious head injuries in the 6.45am incident and fell into a coma.

District police chief Supt Roslan Bek Ahmad said Abd Halim was travelling to work when he ran over the piece of wood at Km61.5 of the route.

Deputy district police chief dies

JASIN: In a tragic turn of events, Muar抯 newly appointed deputy district police chief was killed in an accident barely 20 days after his promotion.
Assistant Superintendent Samsuri Sanusi, 51, died of severe head injuries when the Proton Waja he was driving crashed into the back of a lorry.

The lorry was transporting 30 tonnes of manure from Klang to Kluang.

The accident occurred at Km178 of the North-South Expressway, here, at 3am, yesterday.

Jasin traffic chief Chief Inspector Mohd Zaki Ansar said Samsuri was heading from Klang to Muar.
"Samsuri was pinned to his seat and he suffered severe head injuries," Zaki said, adding that Samsuri died on the spot.

Before his transfer to the Muar district police contingent on July 17, Samsuri was the deputy marine police chief in Terengganu.

Samsuri抯 body was sent to his family home in Sungai Pinang in Pulau Indah, Port Klang, just before noon yesterday.

Accompanying Samsuri抯 body were former Federal Police Management director Datuk Kamaruddin Md Ali and Muar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nizar Mohd Ali.

Samsuri leaves a wife and four children.
