Rei Kikukawa gets into role of hostess in Fuji TV drama

Friday 08th January, 04:00 AM JST

TOKYO —

Actress Rei Kikukawa, 31, will play a housewife who becomes a hostess in Fuji TV’s upcoming drama special “Sankyo no sho” to show later this month. Kikukawa wears a sexy red evening dress at a hostess club as she tries to get to the truth behind her husband and younger sister’s mysterious deaths, which appear to have been a double suicide.

It is the fourth time for Kikukawa to star in an adaptation of a Seicho Matsumoto novel, with the previous three all scoring healthy ratings of 15 to 17%.

Kikukawa, chosen as Toray’s swimsuit campaign girl in 1998 while studying at the University of Tokyo, shows she has still got it as the male customers in the club can’t keep their hands off her legs. “I was nervous in the beginning, but I got used to it, which was a bit scary,” she said with a smile.

She added she thought the job of hostessing was one which could help women refine themselves.

“Sankyo no sho” will air on Fuji TV on Jan 29 at 9 p.m.

Kyoko Hasegawa returns to TV after taking year off

Monday 11th January, 05:17 AM JST

TOKYO —

Actress Kyoko Hasegawa, 31, will debut in her first role in over a year on Jan 14 in the new TV Asahi drama, “Angel Bank - Tenshoku Dairinin” (Thursday nights at 9 p.m.), playing a career change adviser the same age as she is.

The story is based on the popular comic book by Norifusa Mita, and is a spin-off of the 2005 TBS show “Dragon Zakura.” Hasegawa played the high school teacher, who was the main character on “Dragon.”

The story begins with Hasegawa’s character setting out as a career change adviser. As the story progresses, she learns how to live life the way she wants throughout the struggles of the business while dealing with a colorful cast of characters. “Her sense of justice is strong and it makes her really emotional,” says Hasegawa. “I see her as being really girly. In real life, I think I’m a little more ‘manly’ than that.”

Ryuta Sato, Kyoko Fukada to star in new drama

Tuesday 12th January, 04:19 AM JST

TOKYO —

Actor Ryuta Sato, 29, will play a hard-working engineer at a construction company in Fuji TV’s new drama “Massugu na otoko” which airs from Tuesday.

Sato’s character Kenichiro Matsushima is very by-the-book about everything, but hopeless when it comes to the opposite sex. Actress Kyoko Fukada, 27, plays Narumi Kurita - a free-spirited, somewhat devilish young woman who picks up an invitation to a corporate entertainment event Matsushima drops on the ground. She goes to the event where she helps herself to the food and drinks, but ends up having to go to hospital after eating too much.

Matsushima lends her money to cover the hospital fee and she turns up at his workplace the next day, asking him to lend her some more. He tries to set her on the right path, which Kurita finds amusing, but in the process he grows and begins to question his own firm set of values.

Sato got married last July and with his non-show biz wife had their first child in November. Sato spoke of his new passion for work, saying: “When I leave for work in the morning, I look at my baby girl’s face and she gives me energy. When I get home, I can’t look her in the face if I haven’t given 100% during the day.”

Sato then flashed his grin around at the special preview event held in Ginza, confirming he was a worthy choice for “Best Smile of the Year 2009.”

“Massugu na otoko” airs on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on Fuji TV and Kansai TV.
