KUALA TERENGGANU: Once it is completed late next year, Paya Bunga Square, in the heart of the city, will be a landmark.

The RM94.4 million building, nestled between the Kuala Terengganu City Council bus stop and Paya Bunga Complex, includes a five-star hotel, restaurant, a shopping complex and offices.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the building, a project under the East Coast Economic Region, would be constructed in two phases.

The second phase is a 12-storey hotel with 201 rooms and seminar hall that can seat 400.

There will also be 12 floors of office space and a car park for 441 vehicles and 196 motorcycles.

Shopping mall to open in KT by mid year

KUALA TERENGGANU: The first shopping mall here is poised to begin operations by mid year, just a few months after the opening of a pioneer hypermarket in Terengganu last week.

The Paya Bunga mall situated at the heart of the town was supposed to commence operations a decade ago but hit a snag due to technical hitches and bureaucracy.

The state is hoping to lure a renowned mall management company to participate as an anchor tenant of the multi-storey complex where a cineplex is also expected make a debut after the Chinese New Year.

The mall located close to the main express bus complex and Government buildings will also allot space for a family amusement park.

With the opening, local folks who have been waiting to enjoy an extravagant shopping mall can shop here without travelling to Kuantan or Kota Baru.

There are four supermarkets in the heart of the town but none offer a mall concept.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the opening would quash the perception that Kuala Terengganu was a dull town.

揥e have transformed Kuala Terengganu and the state as whole with more paradigm changes,

Skyscraper in Kota Baru
By IAN MCINTYRE

KOTA BARU: The first phase completion of a RM300mil mixed development project in Jalan Raja Dewa here in 36 months will transform the skyline of the state capital.

The Dataran Raja Dewa project was hailed as an iconic real estate boost for Kelantan with the building of a twin towers of 31 storeys, said developer Petraz Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Dr Stanley Chew.

Sited on 6.3ha, the project would showcase Islamic architecture, he said after signing a memorandum of understanding between the Kuala Lumpur-based Petraz and the Kelantan government last Wednesday.

Dr Chew said Petraz had 23 years' experience in the property market with its niche in the warehousing industry in Klang, Selangor.

On Petraz抯 foray into Kelantan, he said real estate was reaching saturation levels in other states while Kelantan was an emerging market.

揟here is potential here so we have come to seek the opportunities while bringing about modern development to the town,
