Aragon? Makes Radical Changes

Luis Aragon? has revolutionised his Spain squad for the friendly international against Romania next week bringing in only players that he claims are in form.

Spain face a testing friendly encounter next Wednesday as they take on Romania in the Ram? de Carranza in C?iz at 10pm (CET).

Ra? has again been omitted from the squad, but there were further shocks as Fernando Torres was left out along with Barcelona duo Carles Puyol and Xavi.

Aragon? has caused a stir by recalling Fernando Morientes and Javi Navarro, as well giving Depor's Javier Arizmendi and Albert Lopo, Valencia's David Silva and Celta's ?gel their first ever call-ups to the Spain squad.

While Torres has netted just two goals for Atl?ico this season, Morientes has been very impressive since moving to Valencia in the summer and has been rewarded for his performances.

Only last month the former Real Madrid and Liverpool striker stated that he thought the chance of a return to international football had passed him by.

Also left out are Jos? Antonio Reyes and Joaqu?, both of whom have been inconsistent for their club sides so far this term.

Critics stated that something needed changing as Spain lie fifth in Group F and the coach has reacted by making these wholesale changes.

Full squad:

Atl?ico de Madrid: Antonio L?ez
Arsenal: Cesc F?regas
FC Barcelona: Andr? Iniesta
Real Betis: Juanito
Celta de Vigo: Borja Oubi?, ?gel
Deportivo: Javier Arizmendi, Joan Capdevila, Albert Lopo
Liverpool: Luis Garc?, Jos? Reina, Xabi Alonso
Real Madrid: Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos
Sevilla: Javi Navarro
Valencia: Miguel ?gel Angulo, Fernando Morientes, David Silva, David Villa
Villarreal: Marcos Senna

No Friendlies For Me - Aragones

Spain coach Luis Aragones insisted that the Romania game was anything but a friendly, despite the number of changes in the first eleven.

First team regulars such as Puyol, Pablo, Xavi, Sergio Ramos and Torres are all missing, with Angel, Morientes, Javi Navarro, Angulo, Juanito and David Silva set to start tonight.

Asked about the absence of defenders Puyol, Pablo and Ramos he responded: "This game, and then the one against England in Manchester, allow us to try out new full-backs and centre-halves.

"There can be injuries later, and this is the time to try out others."

Aragones also had good words for the visitors: "Roman? are still in the running for qualification for Euro 2008 [from group G]. They are a good team, with good touch and control. It is going to be a beautiful game."

Romania are currently third in group G, three points behind leaders Netherlands, and one behind Bulgaria, but with a match in hand, and Aragones warned that they could cause an upset.

"It is possible to lose," said the 68-year-old. "We come up against a team that plays very well, and they can complicate things for us. However, have a good team too."

An aggressive and Valencia-heavy team is set to step out tonight, with Villa, Morientes, Silva and Angulo all set to start, with Xabi Alonso and Fabregas controlling the midfield.

Friendly Report: Marica Piles Pressure On Aragon?

Romania pulled off a shock victory as they defeat Spain 1-0 in C?iz, thanks to a second-half strike from Ciprian Marica, and added to Luis Aragon?' problems.

Unfortunately, the move failed to work and la Fur? Roja were caught cold as the Romanians blocked out their opponents before hitting the winner.

One highlight of the encounter for the home team was the performance of David Silva who stepped up from the Under-21's and looked comfortable on the left-side of the midfield.

The Valencia midfielder had Spain's first two chances, but both efforts flew straight at goalkeeper Daniel Coman.

David Villa then warmed the custodian's gloves with a bouncing shot from distance, before Silva completed his hat-trick of shots soon after.

Romania did not come close to Iker Casillas' goal until three minutes before half-time when Petre Marin's cross found Claudiu Niculescu at the far post, but the striker steered the ball wide.

Marica then forced the Spanish keeper to make his first save of the game as he broke through the defence, but Casillas was out quickly to save.

Aragon? looked to make a difference at the break and introduced Marcos Senna and Borja Oubi? in place of Cesc F?regas and Xabi Alonso in the midfield.

The move failed to ignite the hosts and instead, they fell victim to a counter-blow as Romania scored with their first shot on target in the 59th minute.

Despite having five defenders back, Marica was able to edge towards the box before firing the ball under Antonio L?ez and into the far corner of the net.

Having failed to truly test Coman, the prospect of scoring twice appeared very distant for the Spanish, but they did come close to an equaliser in minute 65 when Villa's flick into the area was volleyed goalwards by Silva, only for the keeper to parry the shot.

The Romanians actually came closest to adding to the scoreline after that as Christian Chivu sent over a superb free-kick which produced an equally fine save from Casillas.

Deep in injury time, Villa summed up Spain's evening when he took aim from outside the area only to see his shot fly way off target and into the stand.

Spain: Iker Casillas, ?gel L?ez (Sergio Ramos, 74), Juanito, Javi Navarro, Antonio L?ez, Miguel ?gel Angulo, Cesc F?regas (Borja Oubi?, 46), Xabi Alonso (Marcos Senna, 46), David Silva, David Villa, Fernando Morientes.

Romania: Daniel Coman, Razvan Rat (Valentin Badoi, 89), Gabriel Tamas (Dorin Goian, 87) Cristian Chivu (Sorin Ghionea, 87), Petre Marin, Daniel Niculae (Nicolae Dica, 75) Ovidiu Petre, Marius Maldarasanu (Laurentiu Rosu, 46), Razvan Cocis, Ciprian Marica, Claudiu Niculescu (Mugurel Buga, 46).
