Akak sedih campur sakit hati bila ingat masa jatuh. Jatuh masa nak beli cekodok pisang for my 6 years old son. Its was very windy and tak perasan jalan tak rata - jalan tu baru je resurfaced. I missed a step. Pastu tak boleh bangun. Hubby and my eldest son (12 years old) came to help me up & terus pegi clinic - unfortunately clinic ni tak ada x-ray. Doctor kat situ goddamn confident tak patah. Dia cakap ni ankle sprain je. Dia cakap tak payah x-ray. Akak pegi balik kat dia lepas 3 hari sebab masa tu dah bengkak and blue black the whole foot. Takut gangrene ke apa. Dia masih cakap its a torn tendon or ligament. Tak suruh pun buat x-ray. :@
After 3 weeks I went to visit my mum - my mum patah kaki bulan May this year. She said the colour of my foot is not normal. She insisted that I get an x-ray to make sure my foot is alright.
Akak malas nak panjangkan cerita pegi hospital segala sebab eldest son nak upsr masa tu. As soon as dah start upsr, I thought okay now I want to take care of myself. So, I had an x-ray done. The rest is history.
I don't need the wheelchair & crutches & walker anymore. Nak sedekahkan to my brother - he can use at his clinics (he's a dr). Now akak dah boleh jalan-jalan dengan walking stick je.
Girl sekarang ni non-weight bearing ke? Where do you go for treatment - which hospital?

Normal procedure for patah kaki is immobilise (plaster cast, fibreglass or aircast) and non weight bearing. This means the bad leg tak boleh jejakkan ke lantai at all. This is to allow the fracture not to get any worse and bones to grow back.
For me the non-weight bearing was for 4 weeks. Masa ni every week appointment with surgeon.
Pastu partial weight bearing for 2 weeks.
Partial weight bearing means boleh letakkan toes of the bad leg ke lantai (ni kena agak-agak according to our pain level and with the cast sikit je sentuh lantai).
After that surgeon said to walk by holding on to furniture in the house. Kat rumah bolehlah macam tu. But akak ni cepat cabin fever.  Boring kat rumah. So I got a walking stick.
Akak dulu tak faham apa ke benda partial weight bearing so I asked to be referred to physiotherapist. Orang fisio tu ajar cara nak jalan dengan crutches and walker using partial weight bearing. She also taught me how to go up and down the staircase.
My mum pulak patah kaki non weight bearing for 6 weeks. Tapi my mum ni pandai sikit. Dia terus gi hospital and got the plaster cast straight away. After 6 weeks cantik je tulang dah sambung balik.
You should ask more questions to your doctor. Make sure he/she is at least an orthopeadic doctor. Kalau dapat level doctors yang can perform surgery even better - because they are more skilled. According to my dr brother surgery patah kaki like my case is simple je for orthopaedic surgeon - macam perform `sunat' for dr biasa.  |

Girl, another thing if you tak tahan dengan your fibreglass cast cuba tanya dr for an aircast. Aircast ni tak rimas sangat nak guna. Kaki pun bersih sebab kita boleh bukak kejap untuk anginkan and lap sikit. I use wet wipes for 6 weeks to clean my legs - sebab ada surgical wound.
According to my surgeon if tak ada surgical wound boleh bukak aircast tu masa nak mandi. Pastu pakai balik aircast. For the first 4 weeks akak memang tak bukak aircast tu lama-lama. Just bukak kejap untuk sejukkan kaki, lap with wipes, tukar stokin pastu pakai balik - not more than 10 minutes.
For me my aircast and wheelchair are real lifesavers. |

ada ke patut, dia cakap boleh letak kaki kat simen (i mean dia kata its ok nak pijak kaki atas simen after girl pakai fiberglass tu)
kisahnyer, girl nak p toilet, fisio tak datang lagik bagi crutches, girl panggil nurse...girl cakap nak p toilet...pastu,leh tak ngan otak beku, dia kata u tak leh jalan sendiri ke?:@

girl try berdiri atas kaki, sakitnyer allah jer tau...jerlah, sebelum ni,girl jalan pakai sapot dari jari2 kaki(ala2 menjingkit tuh)
pastu dah pakai fibreglass, mana leh nak pijak guna jari kaki....
memang 8 keturunan ler nurse bodoh yg pemalas tu akan terima musibah
pastu, sanggup lagik dia jadik tempat girl paut sementara nak ke tandas tu dari dia amek wheel chair....
silapnyer, time tu girl tak amek nama dia
ptg sket fiso datang n girl bagitau dia....
sebab dia cakap, doc kata jangan bagi beban pada kaki dulu
girl bagitau dia kejadian nurse tak pakai otak tu, dia cakap, takpelah,anggap tak berlaku...sekali tuh jer kan,pasni jangan buat lagik |

Wheelchair is RM300++ and the walker is RM100++. I don't know the exact amount bcos hubby yg belikan. Unfortunately my brother dah booking early otherwise can let you have them. Kat SJMC boleh rent a wheelchair - its about RM15 a day (if I remember correctly).
You should never ever put the bad leg down! Get someone to help you with the bathroom.
This is what I do - in fact sebelum surgery akak dah prepare for bathroom trips.
1. Get in a hand support - akak beli kat ACE hardware RM20 - benda ni melekat kat dinding yg ada tile. Use it to pull yourself up or down or for support in the bathroom.
2. Get a `magic mop' thingy. This thing has a long sponge - it absorbs water. Before going to the bathroom wipe off all the excess water in the bathroom. Akak suruh anak-anak tolong lapkan. They enjoy it! But actually I can do it myself - saja je ngada-ngada.
3. Do most of the 'activities' in the bathroom sitting down - either sit on the toilet bowl or get a good sturdy chair. Mandi, gosok gigi etc etc semua duduk. Kalau berdiri cepat letih and rasa nak terjatuh or accidentally terletak bad leg down.
4. Don't hesitate to ask for help in the bathroom. Akak dulu the first few days after surgery hubby tak kasi tutup pintu masa mandi - takut tergelincir & belum terror lagi jalan dgn satu kaki. |
