Renault confirm new car has failed crash test
Renault- expected to be one of F1's leading contenders in 2009 - has confirmed that its new R29 has failed the FIA's obligatory crash test.
Renault has confirmed reports that its new Formula 1 car has failed the FIA's mandatory pre-season crash test - but insists testing will proceed as planned.
The R29 failed two of the governing body's tests at its first attempt, it has been revealed, with suggestions that an entire chassis was written off in the process. The car's scheduled launch and testing debut in Portugal in just over a week's time have not been affected.
"We have identified the problem and solved it," a spokeswoman for the French outfit said. "We will be able to run the car as planned in Portugal."
With former double world champion Fernando Alonso as lead driver, Renault has been tipped by some to join Ferrari, McLaren-Mercedes and BMW-Sauber in the F1 title fight this year. |
