we nvr missed dis festival for several yrs already... dis yr, it was made possible at Marina Bay Floating Platform, for d 1st time ever !
the significant entrance, overlooking d "not in operation" Singapore Flyer... huge crowds but not massive...
welcomed with brightful red colored lanterns... love walking under it !!
at d sides too... red is good luck for chinese beliefs...

view from the grand stand, overlooking Singapore's skyline cum Central Business District (CBD)... perfect spot to rest & relax here whilst enjoying the windy breeze from d marina reservoir... sit anywhere u like !! its FREE !!

i admit, my niteshots ain't perfect... dis is bcos m using a kucing kurap dc...  or maybe, m nvr good at taking niteshots (kes malas nk angkut tripod)  ... d outcome, i always got frustrated by d ugly noise... oh, and d ppl blocking my view while m photoshooting ! aarrgghhh !! :@
d stage for d acrobatic performances by foreign/local artists.... VIPs were ard during dis time, watching d shows....
d floating platform has been the venue for the past two NDPs.....
ZOOMED to d MAX ! worth to see dem performed... simply amazing !!

dis is supposed to be d last post but d network was being interrupted when m about to tepek dis God of Fortune pix... overlooking d backgrd is d 5* hotels in Marina Bay... oh, and also d grand stand seats... quite a handful of events were held here at d floating platform... one of it being the Countdown 2009, with fireworks and such...
The God of Fortune statue, which faces the floating platform, will rain golden confetti and single digits hourly from 7pm nightly.
There is a Food Street with arrays of local and Asian cuisines under a huge gazebo, 48 stalls altogether... No pixes were taken, as d crowds had piled up by d time we finished our rounds at d floating platform...

River Hongbao kicks off
Firecrackers set off instead of fireworks as festival trims budget to $1.4m

Instead of fireworks, those who showed up at the opening of this year's River Hongbao 2009 last night got firecrackers instead.
Belt-tightening extended to this year's festival, launched - literally - with a bang by Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng at the Marina Bay floating platform.
This is the first time it is held at the platform, which was also the venue for last year's National Day Parade celebrations.
The festival, now into its 23rd year of celebrating Chinese New Year, saw its budget cut this year in line with the leaner times.
A total of $1.4 million was spent on the event this year, while about $1.5 million was spent last year.
One of the frills that had to go was the fireworks, which cost more than firecrackers, said Mr Baey Yam Keng, an MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC and the chairman of the festival's programme sub-committee.
Other ways the organising committee cut costs included having performances put up by members of the public instead of professionals.
Mr Baey said: 'We are tapping on schools this time. That's why for the performances, we have a section that we opened up for people to volunteer themselves.'
Six groups have been chosen to perform on Wednesday, based on videos they submitted through the River Hongbao website.
Last year, the festival was held at Esplanade Drive for 12 days. This year, it will last for nine days and feature live performances and stalls selling local and foreign snacks.
The event will be open from 6pm to 11pm daily, with more than 7,000 pieces of crackers to be set off every night.
Despite the budget cutback, those who showed up last night still had a good time.
'The firecrackers were very enjoyable. I just hope the economy will take a turn for the better,' said technician Desmond Sieng, 32.
