Barcelona have suffered a blow ahead of their Champions League date with Lyon, with the news that captain Carles Puyol will be out for approximately three weeks.

The Barca talisman suffered a sprained left ankle in the dying minutes against Athletic Bilbao after colliding with Igor Gabilondo, and was promptly replaced by Victor Sanchez.

Puyol's frustration at the injury will be heightened by the fact that it occurred in the 90th minute of a match that was virtually won, with the scoreline at 2-0.

Coach Pep Guardiola, then, will be more than annoyed himself, given that he now must conduct a defensive reshuffle.

Gerard Pique and Rafael Marquez are expected to form the central defensive pairing in midweek. With Eric Abidal still out, Sylvinho is the only realistic candidate to play on the left now that Puyol is unavailable, while Dani Alves should line up on the right.
