F2 Launched at Brands HatchThe Formula Two car was series launched to the world at Brands Hatchyesterday by MotorSport Vision Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer. Underthe watchful eyes of Sir Frank Williams and Patrick Head, the car tookto the track for the first time with BTCC driver Steven Kane at thewheel.

Following the unveiling of the car to the media and on-trackpresentation, the Williams team founders spoke about the launching ofthe new Formula with Jonathan Palmer: "I think with 450bhp the car willneed respect as well as skill," commented Williams. "People will now belooking at two streams into F1 with F2 as well as GP2."

PatrickHead, the man behind the development of the new car as well as so muchsuccess for Williams in Formula One, discussed the technical aspects ofthe new racer: "It was quite a challenge to design a simple car withgood performance. We didn't want the car to be too complex, not tooexpensive, but to produce quite a lot of downforce. It looks nice and Iam sure it will be a good car for the championship."

Palmedconcluded: "The car looks and sounds fantastic and Williams have done agreat job. I don't think any other championship can boast the samedemand from drivers as we've had in such a short space of time, particularly in its first year. To have all twenty four slots filled soquickly is excellent and F2 will give all these drivers the chance toprove their skill against each other on a level playing field, and helpthem towards their aim of racing in Formula One."

The series kicks off in Valencia on 31 May and will travel to four other countries before finishing in Barcelona on 01 November.

Formula Two

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Formula Two, abbreviated to F2, is a type of formula racing and was previously the main feeder series to Formula One. It was replaced by Formula 3000 in 1985, but the FIA announced in 2008 that Formula Two would return for 2009 in the form of the FIA Formula Two Championship. The goal is to develop a low-cost series to allow young drivers a chance to compete in the highest tiers of motorsport.

While Formula One has generally been regarded as the pinnacle of open-wheeled auto racing, the high performance nature of the cars and the expense involved in the series has always meant a need for a path to reach this peak. For much of the history of Formula One, Formula Two has represented the penultimate step on the motorsport ladder.

Formula 2 launches Williams JPH1 in England

The FIA Formula Two Championship series is ready for its competitive return with the unveiling of the Williams JPH1 at the Brands Hatch circuit today in Kent, England by Jonathan Palmer, the CEO of MotorSport Vision. The company owns tracks in the UK and earned the selection by the FIA to supply the chassis and engines plus promote the F2 series.

On hand were two top names in Formula One: Sir Frank Williams and Patrick Head. The chassis, designed by the British-based William F1 team. "It was quite an engineering challenge to design a simple car with good performance," said Head on the low cost factor that was needed and yet produce a fast open-wheel racing car. "We didn't want the car to be too complex, not too expensive, but to still produce quite a lot of downforce. The car looks nice and I am sure it will be a good car for the championship."

Test driver Steven Kane gave the new car its first test in front of not only the design and development team but also in front of the world's press. Williams look on and commented, "When I first heard about this project, I feared it would take resources away from our Formula One operation. But it has been a lesson for me - I don't know how you can go racing so cheaply!"

The powerplant, 1.8 litre turbo, for the Williams JPH1 comes from the German marque, Audi, a company well-known for their ability to produce reliable and fast racing machines. "I think with 450bhp the car will need respect as well as skill and people will now be looking at two streams into F1 with F2 as well as GP2," said F1 team principal Williams.

The new F2 car will host a six-speed Hewland transmission with pneumatically operated paddle shift.

Kane, winner of the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award in 2001, was very pleased with the JPH1 after his test runs. "For me, the car has exceeded expectations straight out of the box," he said. "I've driven in Formula Renault 3.5, and tested GP2 and F1, and I can say that the quality of the F2 car is second to none."

Palmer and his team have high hopes for the 2009 season as they take on the challenge to bring F2 back as the main ladder system for Formula 1. "The car looks and sounds fantastic and Williams have done a great job," said Palmer.

"I don't think any other championship can boast the same demand from drivers as we've had in such a short space of time, particularly in its first year. To have all 24 slots filled so quickly is excellent and F2 will give all these drivers the chance to prove their skill against each other on a level playing field. And help them towards their aim of racing in Formula One."

The first round will be on the Circuito de la Comunidad Valenciana in Spain at the end of May.

dari wikipedia;-

"Revival (2008-present)
Main article: FIA Formula Two Championship

Following an absence of 25 years, the Formula Two name will return in 2009 following an FIA announcement on the 25 June 2008.[1]

MotorSport Vision (MSV) won the tender to supply chassis and engines for the new FIA Formula Two Championship, following a fax vote of the FIA World Motor Sport Council. As part of the winning tender it was agreed that MSV will be the promoter of the Championship as well as the operating entity for all of the cars.[2]

The Championship will comprise eight events in Europe between the months of May and November. There will be two races per weekend - each will be 110km long (around 40 minutes) - with the second race to include a mandatory pit stop. Two 30-minute practice sessions and two 30-minute qualifying sessions will precede both races. [3]). There will be three days of official testing throughout the season - three before the first race of the season and another two during the season. At each of these tests a maximum of 300km may be undertaken. Testing will also be possible at MSV’s Bedford Autodrome test circuit. This will be restricted to the opportunity for 50km shakedown tests before any event and a maximum of 1000km in the 2009 season.[3]). [4]

The cars will be designed by Williams Grand Prix Engineering Ltd and prepared by MotorSport Vision (MSV). The open wheel chassis will be powered by a 1.8L turbocharged Audi engine developed by Mountune Racing. The new F2 cars are aimed to fall between F1 and F3 in performance. MSV, owned by former Formula One pilot Jonathan Palmer, also runs the British series Formula Palmer Audi,[5] [6] as well as the British Superbike Championship."

dia kata MSV akan supply chasis dan engine, jadi macam 1 make series je la, macam a1gp dan champcar tapi competitve level lagi tinggi dari gp2
