I thought that was sweet...

I went out for a smoke in my balcony a couple of hours ago at around 1am. I live on the third floor. There's a dumpster near my apartment building. And then I saw two people in the dark. A young couple, each one with a flashlight, dumpster diving looking for aluminum cans.

Here in the US dumpster diving is not an uncommon sight. Most of the time people do it out of necessity to make ends meet. From what I've seen though the people who do it are rarely young. And they normally do it alone. But I guess in this economy anybody may end up having to do it.

And as they walked walked away I saw them holding each other's possibly filthy hand. And from the way they walked they looked happy together. Probably not happy because of the financial hardship they're going through, but happy for having each other to go through it. And I thought that was sweet, and I smiled to myself.

Although at the same time I did feel kinda like a looser. I still have a job and living comfortably, yet I'm still single.

I would give up anything for a girl like that... I did that once when i'm still studying, but the problem is, my ex is more interested in aluminium cans than me.. There is once when we're quarrelling, she suddenly stop and went for a can someone just trown, leaving me stunned for a while, surprised thinking how could she went for a can in that situation.. So i realise, we're not actually sharing hardship together, the reality is, i'm sharing her hobby...
