Biography of Dr Raxit Jariwalla –

DrRaxit Jariwalla is a Senior Researcher in nutrition and infectiousdiseases at the Dr Rath Research Institute. He was formerly head of thevirology and immunodeficiency program at the Linus Pauling Instituteand then worked as a principal research investigator of viral, immuneand metabolic diseases at the California Institute for MedicalResearch. His expertise is in virology, immunology and the science ofnutrition and the specific application of nutritional supplementationto modulation of immune function, viral infection and tumour growth. Heis a pioneer in the discovery of the role of Vitamin C in suppressingthe AIDS virus, and in 1990, he and Dr Linus Pauling published theirresearch on the subject. To date, Dr Jariwalla has over 30 publicationsin peer-reviewed journals and he is known worldwide as a leadingimmunologist on Vitamin C and HIV.

While at the Linus PaulingInstitute, he initiated studies into the role of vitamins and nutrientsin the suppression of virus infection and cancer. Jariwalla and hiscolleagues were among the first to show that biological antioxidantssuch as ascorbic acid and N-acetyl-cysteine were effective in blockingvirus multiplication in chronically and latently infected cells. Theywere also among the first to demonstrate anti-cancer activity withinplant-derived phytonutrients, such as inositol hexaphosphate or IP6.

Morerecently, Jariwalla in collaboration with clinicians, researchedalpha-lipoic acid in AIDS, demonstrating enhancement in blood levels ofthe major antioxidant glutathione and improvement in lymphocytefunction. He and his colleagues also investigated the anti-canceractivity of organic selenium derivatives, demonstrating selectivekilling of tumour cells by naturally occurring compounds containingthis important trace element. Currently he is continuing his researchon nutrition and infectious diseases – on the role of micronutrients inthe natural control of viral immunodeficiency disease and influenza.
