Tottenham 2-0 Blackburn: Stunning Walker free-kick sees Spurs go fourth while visitors slip closer towards relegation
Redknapp's side move ahead of Newcastle on goal difference after a comfortable victory over a lifeless Rovers team who failed to manage a single attempt on goal.

Tottenham moved back into fourth place in the Premier League after a comfortable 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at White Hart Lane.

Spurs dominated the game throughout the 90 minutes and thoroughly deserved the three points against a demoralised Blackburn side.

The hosts took the lead with Rafael van der Vaart's scrambled effort midway through the first half, before sealing the victory with 15 minutes to go thanks to a fantastic free-kick by Kyle Walker.

Bolton 1-4 Tottenham
Emmanuel Adebayor struck twice as Tottenham recovered some of their sparkle to maintain their hold on fourth spot in the Premier League.

In the week their manager Harry Redknapp learned he would not succeed Fabio Capello as England manager, Spurs played more like the side they were before the speculation he would become national boss began.

Bolton's Nigel Reo-Coker cancelled out a stunning strike from Luka Modric at the Reebok Stadium but three goals in nine minutes from Spurs, one from Rafael van der Vaart and Adebayor's double, ended the contest.

The victory took them within two points of third-placed Arsenal but left Bolton in deep relegation trouble.

Draw la pulak, Arsenal dah bagi jalan tak mau ambik.

Aston Villa 1-1 Tottenham: Adebayor saves point but 10-man Spurs fail to overhaul Arsenal in race for third
Alex McLeish's side will be the happier with a point as they fight to stay up, with the away side disappointed after seeing the Gunners and Newcastle drop points.

Tottenham’s hopes of overtaking Arsenal into third place in the Premier League table were dashed as they were held to a 1-1 draw at struggling Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs dominated proceedings, but a deflected Ciaran Clark goal put Villa ahead as the hosts defended strongly against a barrage of attacks from the visitors.

Danny Rose was sent off early in the second half after a two-footed lunge on Alan Hutton before Emmanuel Adebayor slotted home a penalty to equalise, but the away side couldn’t find the all-important winner as they remain fourth.

Harry sacking not due to Champs League
Harry Redknapp feels he would have been sacked even if Tottenham had qualified for the Champions League.

Spurs confirmed the 65-year-old's departure in the early hours of Thursday morning after negotiations over a contract extension with chairman Daniel Levy broke down.
Redknapp believes this outcome was inevitable, regardless of what happened on the pitch - with Spurs losing out on Champions League football again despite finishing fourth in the Barclays Premier League, because of Chelsea's Champions League final triumph over Bayern Munich last month.
"We finished fourth and were unlucky at the end, but I think the same outcome would have happened," Redknapp said on BBC Radio Five Live.
"Even if we had finished fourth, the chairman would have gone down the same road. But that is football.
"I had four great years at Spurs. All you can do is leave the club in a better state than you found it and I did that, for sure."
Everton manager David Moyes is the odds-on favourite to replace Redknapp, who transformed the fortunes of the north London club since taking charge in October 2008.
Chairman Levy said it was not a decision the board had made lightly.

A statment on the club's official website read: "Harry arrived at the club at a time when his experience and approach was exactly what was needed.

"This decision in no way detracts from the excellent work Harry has done during his time with the club and I should like to thank him for his achievements and contribution.
"Harry will always be welcome at the Lane."
In his first full season in charge Redknapp guided Spurs to fourth position, taking them into the Champions League for the first time.
Spurs played some exhilarating football on their way to the quarter-finals, before being knocked out by Real Madrid.
Since then Redknapp has twice failed to secure Champions League football at White Hart Lane, albeit with a touch of misfortune this season as Chelsea snatched the last available place away from them.

That capped a dramatic season for Redknapp, who underwent a heart procedure in November, was cleared of tax evasion in February and missed out on the England job in May.
In the past week Redknapp made it known he would be uncomfortable heading into the new season without a longer deal while also defending his relationship with Levy.
It has been claimed, however, that Levy was only willing to offer Redknapp a rolling 12-month contract whereas the former Portsmouth manager is thought to have wanted a longer deal that would have made the London club his last job in management.
Redknapp's future remains uncertain, but the former West Ham boss could now be set for a move overseas, with a long-standing offer of a coaching role in Dubai said to be on the table.
Tottenham have yet to confirm any details of the compensation package agreed or whether any of Redknapp's backroom staff, including Joe Jordan and Kevin Bond, will remain at the club.

Villas-Boas close to Spurs appointment

Andre Villas-Boas is said to be close to being appointed as Tottenham's new manager.

Journalists understand former Chelsea boss Villas-Boas could even be installed as Harry Redknapp's successor within the next 24 hours.

Reports suggest Villas-Boas is on the brink of signing a four-year contract worth £16 million.

It has been suggested Villas-Boas is prepared to forgo a potential £11 million pay-off from Chelsea to take charge of their London rivals.

The Blues reportedly have been continuing to pay the 34-year-old Portuguese since sacking him in March, just eight months into a three-year contract.

Tim Sherwood looks set to be promoted to director of football at Spurs, with the 43-year-old one of few members of their coaching staff to survive the axe following Redknapp's departure last month.

Tottenham are said to have sought assurances from Villas-Boas that he had learnt the mistakes that led to his Chelsea downfall.

Jose Mourinho's former assistant was dogged by claims of player unrest during his ill-fated tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Villas-Boas arguably tried to change too much, too soon in pursuit of billionaire Blues owner Roman Abramovich's dream of getting the team to play more like Barcelona.

He also proved highly sensitive to criticism during his first major setback in what had previously been a meteoric rise in management.

Villas-Boas' first full season as a boss saw him win an unprecedented quadruple at Porto, which included masterminding an unbeaten league campaign.

And despite his reputation taking a hit since, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy appears to have seen him as the best young manager to build on Redknapp's success.

Villas-Boas will doubtless be charged with ensuring the club qualify for next season's Champions League.

They were cruelly denied a return to the competition by Chelsea's astonishing Munich triumph, which rendered Tottenham's fourth-placed Barclays Premier League finish redundant.

Official: Tottenham confirm Vertonghen signing

A long-running transfer saga has come to an end after the former Ajax captain was pictured with Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas and new acquisition Gylfi Sigurdsson
.

Tottenham have officially announced the signing defender Jan Vertonghen from Ajax on a long-term contract.

The Belgium international has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane for a number of months but the move reportedly hit a snag over the defender's demands for a cut of the transfer fee.

The 25-year-old made 31 appearances as Ajax captain last season scoring eight goals from the back as the Amsterdam club clinched the Eredivisie title.

Vertonghen is Andre Villas-Boas' second signing since his appointment at the north London club, following the capture of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim.
