Newcastle vs Chelsea Player Ratings
ESPNSTAR.com's Sham Majid gives his take on Chelsea's 3-0 win over Newcastle in the Barclays Premier League.

Newcastle United
Tim Krul - 9
Despite the final score, the Geordie custodian demonstrated just why he has now firmly established himself as Newcastle's undisputed number one with a scintillating display. He perhaps single handedly kept Newcastle in the encounter before Chelsea's late flurry with a number of top class-saves to deny the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Didier Drogba. His superb outstretched penalty save to deny Frank Lampard epitomized his own stellar personal season thus far.

Fabricio Coloccini (Off 28') - 7
The Newcastle skipper was his usual commanding self and organized the home side's
defence well until a thigh injury forced him off the match midway through the first half.

Steven Taylor - 7.5
Marshaled the Newcastle backline admirably after the departure of his centre back partner Coloccini but was helpless when the Blues plundered two late goals to settle the clash once and for all.

Ryan Taylor - 6
Arguably Newcastle's weakest link, especially in the first half as he allowed the speedy Sturridge to ghost through time and again on the right flank. Chelsea's penalty came about thanks to his no-show on the left side of defence. It was no surprise that most of Chelsea's attacking forays came through their right side.

Danny Simpson - 6.5
Fared slightly better his left back Ryan Taylor although he struggled to contain the free-moving Juan Mata. Tried his level best to join the Newcastle attack whenever possible but was constantly shackled by the attacking threat of Chelsea.

Danny Guthrie - 7
The former Liverpool midfielder was combative and tried to assert his authority in the centre of the park and can be reasonably pleased with his display. Alongside Yohan Cabaye, he displayed more tenacity and bite than the Frenchman and always tried to make himself available.

Yohan Cabaye - 5.5
This will probably be one match that Cabaye will want to consign to the history pages quickly. His reckless and lazy challenge on Sturridge resulted in Chelsea gaining a penalty kick and although Cabaye was rescued by Krul in that instance, his failure to track Mata from a throw in resulted in the latter launching a brilliant cross for Drogba to head home and make it 1-0 to Chelsea. Two unacceptable errors from a player who has been lauded for his accomplished performances this season.

Peter Lövenkrands (Off 71') - 6.5
Full of graft and purpose, winger Lövenkrands put in a typically industrious display without really threatening the Chelsea rearguard too much. Linked up well in attack and repelled the Blues' offensive line whenever called upon.

Gabriel Obertan - 5.5
Perhaps Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson saw something that Newcastle boss Alan Pardew will realize pretty soon. Although Obertan saw plenty of the ball, his first touch was woeful at times and his inability to beat his man on the touchline was frustrating to watch. Was never a threat to the Chelsea defence and his crosses were constantly dealt with comfortably by the Blues. A major surprise that he lasted the full match.

Demba Ba - 8.5
The Senegalese international demonstrated just why he is one of the league's most in-form strikers. Was a constant menace to the Chelsea backline with his strength, off-the ball running and he also displayed his more defter side with a fantastic back-flip which saw Petr Cech produce a sensational save in the first-half. Powered a header off the post as well in the 35th minute.

Hatem Ben Arfa (Off 45') - 6
Perhaps the Frenchman was a little overawed by the occasion. Tipped to be a key cog in the Newcastle attacking line ahead of their Chelsea assignment, Ben Arfa produced a meek display and never really stamped his authority in the game. Was surprisingly hauled off by Pardew in what was deemed to be a tactical switch.

Substitutes
James Perch (On 28') - 6.5
It was never going to be easy to slot straight into a backline missing its inspiration skipper but Perch can take heart with his display. Was a steadying influence alongside Taylor after Coloccini's injury although he was helpless when Chelsea scored two late goals.

Shola Ameobi (On 45') - 7.5
Long-serving veteran Shola Ameobi rolled back the years as he displayed a vintage display. Strong as an ox, he offered another dimension to Newcastle's attack with his strength, physique and power. He nearly brought the roof off the Sports Direct Arena when his corker of a strike flew off the upright in the second half.

Sammy Ameobi (On 71') - 7
Like his brother Shola, Sammy Ameobi displayed his precocious potential as his speed and direct running posed some problems for Chelsea before their two-goal late salvo. Nearly equalized for the home side when his effort was cleared off the line by Blues skipper John Terry.

Chelsea

Petr Cech - 7.5
Cech showed he still has some spring left in his step when he produced an absolutely fantastic save from a deft Ba flick-on. Was a calming influence throughout the encounter although he was left grasping for thin air when Shola Ameobi's blockbuster cannoned of the upright.

John Terry - 8
Perhaps reminded his growing critics that there still is some fire left in his belly as he produced a composed and gritty display. Compensating his much documented lack of pace with positional awareness, Terry made some vital interceptions, none more so when he blocked a certain Sammy Ameobi off the line with his legs. However, his attempted clearance hit Luiz and nearly flew into goal in the 35th minute, but Cech was on hand to parry the ball away.

David Luiz - 5.5
The shaggy-haired Brazilian should not even have stayed on the field from the fourth minute after he clearly hauled down Demba Ba who was clearly through on goal. Somehow, referee Mike Dean leniently let Luiz remain on the pitch by brandishing only a yellow card. A bungle of nerves throughout the first half, he was nearly credited with an own goal when Terry's clearance from a Ba header hit him and nearly flew into the back of the net. He recovered slightly after the break and was kept in check by defensive partner Terry.

Ashley Cole: 7.5
Produced a polished display as always and was never really usurped by the Newcastle midfield. Showed his commitment to the cause as well by launching himself at a Ba effort, taking a painful knock to his head.

Branislav Ivanovic - 7.5
The Serbian personified his typical no-nonsense display and linked up well in attack and in defence. Was hardly noticed throughout the encounter but did everything simply and well.

Oriol Romeu - 7
The former Barcelona youth academy product can be proud of his efforts. He got stuck into the challenges and never shirked from any tackle. Romeu was constantly harassing the Newcastle midfield and never let them had a moment's peace. A bright future awaits for the Spanish starlet.

Frank Lampard (Off 61') - 6.5
The Englishman had a disappointing outing in the North East as his fluffed his penalty and saw his effort saved by Dutchman Krul. Could not mask his disgust and disappointment after being hauled off just after the hour mark.

Ramires - 7.5
The Brazilian was as dynamic as ever and displayed his athleticism with a couple of striding runs into Newcastle's half throughout the encounter. Nearly scored from a counter-attack off a Newcastle corner and was foiled by the excellent Krul.

Juan Mata (Off 75') - 10
If Krul was excellent, then Mata's performance can only be termed as stupendous. He was Newcastle's biggest thorn as his off-the-ball running and skill caused the Magpies plenty of problems. Constantly floating across the Chelsea attack in a free role, he probed and teased the Newcastle defence with his incisive passes. Was the chief creator in Chelsea's first goal as his shrugged off the attentions of Cabaye to whip in a beauty of a cross for Drogba to head home. Fantastic stuff from the Spaniard.

Didier Drogba (Off 79') - 8.5
The big old Ivorian showed his counterpart Fernando Torres just how to do it when he powerfully rose to head home a Mata cross. Shrugging off his contract woes, Drogba was his usual self; powerful, skillful and he turned in a committed display. However, he nearly undid his good work when he nearly headed home for Newcastle in the 55th minute.

Daniel Sturridge - 9
With his searing pace and bagful of stricks, Sturridge was perhaps Chelsea's sole attacking outlet in the first half and such was his dominance over Ryan Taylor that he was put through by the Blues at every attempt. He was foiled by Krul on at least four occasions but he redeemed himself right at the end with a rasping drive into the corner of the net.

Substitutes
Raul Meireles (On 61') - 6
Was anonymous during his half-hour cameo and hardly made his presence felt.

Salomon Kalou (On 75') - 7
Marked his short fifteen minute appearance by bagging another goal. Incredibly, it was Kalou's one hundredth substitute appearance for the Blues.

Fernando Torres (Off 79') - 6.5
His fragile confidence was clearly personified when he burst through on goal but found himself blocked out before he relayed the ball back to Kalou who scored Chelsea's second goal. Clearly now displaced off the starting eleven in favour of Sturridge.

Chelsea vs Valencia Player Ratings
Chelsea put in a performance to be proud of as they beat Valencia 3-0 to secure their passage to the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Chelsea
Cech - 7.5
Made several top notch saves to ensure there were no nerves at Stamford Bridge - remember the Blues would have been knocked out had Valencia earned a score draw. Equally impressive was his handling of balls delivered into the box - and there were a few quality ones from Valencia's Costa.

Ivanovic - 7
Solid at right-back, and limited Mathieu to crosses mainly from deep.

Cole - 6.5
Had a relatively quiet game by his standards but Chelsea set out to defend as a team and to be fair to Cole he was disciplined and didn't try to get forward at every opportunity.

Luiz - 7
Luiz certainly enjoyed Chelsea's new, deeper backline and he was faultless along with the excellent Terry.

Terry - 7.5
AVB set out the tactics and Terry ensured the plan - defending as a compact unit - was executed to perfection. This was the Chelsea of old; a team which does not concede soft goals week in and week out.

Romeu - 7.5
Romeu was quietly effective, breaking up Valencia's play too easily at times. It was a bit of a revelation really - the midfielder's ability to tackle and defend wasn't mentioned as one of his shining attributes when he signed for the club. Romeu played the Makelele role very well and Chelsea's midfield never moved much further than 35 yards from goal.

Ramires (Off 65') - 8
Every time Ramires took the ball off a Valencia player he was hell bent on driving Chelsea forward. His goal was also well taken; Ramires out-muscled Ruiz in the box before poking the ball past the Valencia goalkeeper. The midfielder's performance was so good that there could be a few boos heard around the stadium when he was replaced with Mikel.

Meireles - 6.5
The former Liverpool player moves the ball around quicker than Lampard and it did work in Chelsea's favour against Valencia. Still, we wouldn't rule Lampard's days as a first team regular out just yet.

Mata (Off 83') - 8.5
Drogba will hog the headlines with his two goal showing but a lot of the plaudits must also come Mata's way. He had a hand in two of Chelsea's three goals and created countless other chances for his team-mates. His through ball to set-up Drogba for Chelsea's third goal was also a wonderful bit of play.

Drogba (Off 78') - 9
Man-of-the-match. Drogba bullied Valencia and showed the Spanish side exactly why he has terrified defenders in the Barclays Premier League for the best part of his career. He brings power, pace (less so now) and composure in front of goal (he scored twice against Valencia).
For the first goal, Sturridge's deep cross to the far post was collected by Mata, who rolled the ball into the path of Drogba and the striker then curled it past the goalkeeper from 10 yards out. His second goal came after he got on the end on a through ball from Mata and with the outside of his boot, beats the keeper in a one-v-one situation.
Drogba has now scored four Champions League goals against Valencia.

Sturridge -7
The Chelsea starlet needs to work on his finishing and decision making. He gets himself into great positions but shoots when he should pass and misses the target when he should really be testing the goalkeeper. He was also exposed defensively at times when he failed to track back the full-back Alba's runs.

Subs
Mikel (On 65') - 6
Came on for the excellent Ramires.

Torres (On 78') - 6.5
The Spaniard came on and got straight into the action by closing down a loose ball in the Valencia half. Good to see the hunger.

Malouda (On 83') - 6
Brought on to allow Mata a standing ovation.

Valencia

Alves - 6.5
Might have done better for Chelsea's first goal and overall, he lost his personal duel with Drogba.

Ruiz - 5
It was shocking defending from Ruiz to allow Chelsea to score an important second goal. He hesitated in the box and then was out-muscled by Ramires, who then stabbed the ball home for the goal.

Rami - 5.5
He was lucky Drogba did not make him pay for a silly lapse in concentration in the second half. He allowed himself to get caught in two minds and that was all Drogba needed to muscle him off the ball. Fortunately for him, the Ivory Coast striker dragged his shot wide with just the keeper to beat.

Mathieu - 6.5
Got forward regularly but was restricted to crosses from deep when he really should have tried to hit the byline more often. He can cross the ball well, he just needed to stretch the Chelsea defence a bit better to create more space for his team-mates to get on the end of his balls.

Barragan - 6
He needed to make more out of the chances presented him to find a team-mate. His crossing was poor for the most part of the match.

Albelda - 6.5
Football can be such a cruel game. Albelda must be wondering 'what if' he had taken his chance shortly after Chelsea had opened the scoring. It might have changed the game entirely but instead the Blues survived and went on to win 3-0.

Costa (Off 78') - 7
He was one of the few Valencia players who 'showed up to play' against Chelsea on Tuesday. Costa constantly put in quality set-pieces and crosses into the box for his team but Chelsea's defence held on.

Alba (Off 55') - 7
It was a good performance from the full-back who caught Sturridge out on more than a few occasions with some intelligent runs forward. He also has a wicked shot which if it wasn't for the post might have changed the game for Los Che. Came off injured.

Feghouli (Off 65') - 6.5
Feghouli had one terrific curling effort saved by Cech. He was eventually replaced with substitute Pablo Hernandez.

Soldado - 6.5
Soldado had the best minutes-goals ratio (79) of all players to have played in the Champions League since 1992 (minimum 10 goals) but he was effectively marked out of the game by Terry.

Jonas - 6
Deployed behind Soldado, Jonas worked hard for his team but had little reward to show for his endeavors.

Subs
Aduriz (On 55') - 6
Came on for the injured Alba and was not nearly as effective as the man he replaced.

Pablo Hernandez (On 65') - 6
Replaced Feghouli.

Parejo (On 78') - 6
Parejo was thrown on for the steady Costa with the game already lost.

Chelsea vs Man City Player Ratings

Manchester City's unbeaten start to the league season finally came to an end on Monday as Chelsea beat them 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

It was a game of two halves as the Citizens started in blinding fashion, taking the lead inside the second minute after Mario Balotelli burst through on goal and rounded Petr Cech, before slotting into an empty net.

But despite City's dominance, it was Chelsea who next got on the scoresheet, with Raul Meireles tucking home from close range after excellent work down the right from Daniel Sturridge.

And after the restart, it was the Blues who looked the more likely to take the lead, even before Gael Clichy's red card for a second bookable offence.
In the end, it was left to Frank Lampard to grab all three points for Chelsea, after he came off the bench to net from the spot.
Here, we take a look at the movers and shakers from Monday's game at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea
Petr Cech - 7
Hardly had much to do apart from pick the ball out of the net after he was expertly rounded by Balotelli in the second minute.
On the few occasions City took pot shots from distance, the Czech goalkeeper showed clean hands.

Jose Bosingwa - 8
Had his hands full with David Silva in the first half, but as Chelsea looked to press forward in the second 45, the Portuguese full-back provided an excellent outlet down the right, and whipped in some delicious deliveries, which his team-mates failed to capitalise on.

John Terry - 7.5
Stood strong at the back for the Blues. Despite a troubled season so far, Terry's performances on the pitch have been very good.

Branislav Ivanovic - 6.5
At fault for City's goal when he let a through ball slip past him into the path of Balotelli, but the Serbian international recovered strongly and defended well for the rest of the game.

Ashley Cole - 7
Steady if unspectacular game from Cole. Defended well, but failed to get forward as often as he would have liked.

Oriol Romeu - 8.5
The Barcelona academy graduate's star just keeps on rising, and he repaid the faith shown in him by manager Andre Villas-Boas with a mature and composed display in the middle of the park.
Took awhile to get settled but once he did, the 20-year-old was immaculate in his distribution, exhibiting a good range of short and long passes. Also showed remarkable poise despite his tender years, and was never hurried despite the pressure from the Citizens.

Raul Meireles (off 73') - 7
Did well to net Chelsea's equaliser when he made a late run into the box and finished Sturridge's cross clinically.
But otherwise, the Portuguese was sloppy with his passing, and could have been sent off after putting in a number of late challenges before halftime despite already being on a yellow card.

Ramires - 9
Man of the match on the evening. Ramires was absolutely unstoppable, and never stopped running hard at the City defence.
Latched hungrily onto every loose ball, and his direct play eventually saw Clichy receive his marching orders, after Ramires was hacked down while charging forward.

Daniel Sturridge (off 84') - 7
Clever work down the right led to Chelsea's equaliser, when he jinked into the box before delivering a perfect cross on his weaker right foot.
However, Sturridge struggled to get in the game at times, and will be hoping for a better performance next time out.

Juan Mata (off 84') - 8
Like many of his team mates, Mata started the match slowly, but when he did come to life, he was Chelsea's most creative player.
Set the tone for his side's second half performance when he danced past the City defence on numerous occasions just after the restart.

Didier Drogba - 8
Failed to get on the scoresheet, and wasted a number of good chances, but credit has to be paid to Drogba for a hardworking shift up front on his own.
Never stopped battling for high balls, and put his strength to good use by holding up the ball while waiting for support to arrive.

Subs
Frank Lampard (on 73') - 7
Was presented with the perfect chance to make an impact when Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute, which he smashed straight down the middle.
However, apart from the well-taken spot kick, Lampard was a virtual spectator for the 20 or so minutes he was on the field.

Florent Malouda (on 84') - N/A
His main contribution coming on six minutes before the end of time was probably to allow Mata to receive a standing ovation from the home crowd.

John Obi Mikel (on 88') - N/A
Came on in the dying moments to add an extra body into the midfield, with Villas-Boas looking to hold on to his side's lead.

Manchester City
Joe Hart - 6.5
Like Cech, Hart didn't exactly have much to do, and dealt with threats reasonably well when he was called upon.
It was a brilliant game of football, but one without clear-cut chances that would have seen either goalkeeper potentially become a match-winner.

Pablo Zabaleta - 7.5
Good game from the Argentinean who was solid at the back. Exhibited his versatility when he comfortably slotted in on the left after Clichy received his marching orders.

Vincent Kompany - 8.5
Indomitable spirit shown by the City skipper, who was unbeatable in the air.
Did look uncharacteristically clumsy on the ground, making a few late challenges, but by and large, he was a rock at the back.

Joleon Lescott (off 86') - 6.5
Was actually having a good game until he needlessly raised his arms high when blocking Sturridge's effort. As fate would have it, the ball struck him right on his arm, leaving Mark Clattenburg with no choice but to award Chelsea a penalty, from which Lampard scored the winner.

Gael Clichy - 5
Never looked comfortable, even in the first half when the Citizens were in the ascendancy.
Despite his lack of pace, the Frenchman looked incapable of coping with Sturridge and Ramires, and left the field for an early bath after picking up his second yellow just before the hour mark.

Gareth Barry - 8
One of City's best performers on the night. Barry provided a shield in front of his backline, and was precise in his distribution, which allowed his more creative team-mates to get on the move.

James Milner - 7
Quiet game from Milner, and some of his deliveries from out wide were very disappointing.

Yaya Toure - 6.5
Subdued performance from the Ivorian, who failed to produce his trademark driving runs from midfield. Was also lucky the referee did not see his kick on Mata, regardless of whether it was just a light tap or not.

David Silva (off 75') - 8
Another good game from the Spaniard, who regularly gave the Chelsea defence problems with his movement and passing.
Unfortunately, his outing came to a premature end after he was hauled off in the 75th minute with Roberto Mancini looking to shore things up.

Sergio Aguero (off 64') - 7.5
Like Silva, Aguero would be bemoaning his luck after he was sacrificed after Clichy's sending-off.
Otherwise, the Argentinea had a lively game, and showed brilliant skill and vision to lay on an assist for City's goal, after he held off a challenge from Terry, before sliding a perfect pass through to Balotelli.

Mario Balotelli - 8
For all his recent troubles, Balotelli showed surprising maturity on the night, especially when a number of decisions went against him, and you suspected he was on the brink of lashing out at an opponent.
Classy bit of play in the second minute when he raced onto Aguero's through-ball, and glided past Cech before tapping home. For all his off-field dramas, the Italian is a class act on it.

Subs
Kolo Toure (on 64') - 6.5
Brought on to fill up the gap left by Clichy and was fairly decent.
Nigel De Jong (on 75') - N/A
Didn't exactly get to do much as he came on just before Chelsea took the lead. After Lampard's strike, City looked to attack, of which, De Jong posed no great use for.

Edin Dzeko (on 86') - N/A
The poor Bosnian was thrown on with four minutes in the hope he would be able to salvage a draw for his side. He may be good, but even Dzeko would have struggled trying to drag ten men across the finish line against a side like Chelsea.

Baru best liga kali ni.

Wigan vs Chelsea Player Ratings
A late Jordi Gomez goal made sure Wigan came away from the encounter with Chelsea at DW Stadium with a point.

Wigan
Ali Al Habsi - 6
Could have done better to save Sturridge's goal. However, he acquitted himself well with an excellent save to deny Romeu later on.

Gary Caldwell - 7.5
Led his side's defence well and never really looked like conceding any goals from open play other than the Sturridge goal. Controlled the space in his own half well enough to deny Drogba of any clear opportunity to score.

Antolin Alcaraz - 6.5
Showed impressive tactical discipline in covering his teammates whenever they were drawn out of position.

Manuel Figueroa - 4.5
Showed poor awareness and failed to track Sturridge's run behind him almost all the time. One such moment ended up in Chelsea scoring a rare route-one football goal.

Ronnie Stam - 7
It's no easy task to keep Mata quiet but Stam did well in tracking the Spaniard up and down the flank throughout. He should be expecting phone calls from Mata's future opponents for tips on marking him out of the game.

James McCarthy - 7.5
Took his place in front of the back four and protected his defenders as if their life depended on seeing as little of the ball as possible. An excellent outing for McCarthy, who managed to cut off Lampard's threat before it even started.

Mohamed Diame - 5.5
Diame had many chances on the ball but was rather wasteful of possession at times.

David Jones (Off 72') - 6.5
He took some time to find his feet in the match, looking lost for the better part of the first half an hour. However, Jones became the crucial link from defense to attack after that and played a crucial role as a fulcrum.

Jordi Gomez - 6.5
Supported Moses well up front, though he still lacked the composure on the ball. Gomez continued his hot scoring form by being at the right place at the right time to put away his fourth goal in five games.

Conor Sammon (Off 73') - 4.5
Sammon struggled to find space with Terry and Ivanovic around and lacked the skills to get past them. Taken off after an ineffective game.

Victor Moses - 8.5
Moses probably put himself up on the transfer market and a chance to play for England in th Euros with this performance. Not many players can say that they managed to bamboozle the Chelsea defence but this 21-year-old can say that with pride.
With speed belying his size, Moses showed an impressive change of pace and superb ball control to torment Terry and co.

Substitutions
Hugo Rodallega (On 72') - N/A
Franco Di Santo (On 73') - N/A

Chelsea
Petr Cech - 4
An uncharacteric error from the previously-unflappable Cech gave Gomez a goal to level things in the dying minutes of the game.

Jose Bosingwa - 5
The Portuguese right back was tormented and easily twisted in and out like a party balloon by Victor Moses' mazy runs all night long.

Branislav Ivanovic - 7
Ivanovic was the rock in Chelsea's defence up against a surprisingly speedy and lethal Wigan attack. He did well to cover the right flank whenever Bosingwa was beaten and generally fussed the ball out of his own box whenever possible.

John Terry - 6.5
Solid in the air throughout, Terry was the inspirational captain, even foraging forward in an attempt to rally hi side early in the first half. Terry did display a lack of speed at times, but his experience mroe than made up for it.

Ashley Cole - 6
The England left back was curbed in his own half for majority of the match, limiting his usually frequent runs up front. He still managed to make an impact on the game, showing excellent vision and technique to set up Sturridge's goal with a cross-field pass onto his colleague's feet.

Oriol Romeu(Off 45‘) - 6.5
Neat and efficient when he was on the pitch. The only reason he was taken off was due to Chelsea's need to have a more attacking midfielder, instead of one who can sweep up and hold the play up in the middle.

Frank Lampard - 6
One of the quieter outings for Lampard, who kept things simple in the midfield.

Raul Meireles - 5
The former Liverpool man had a jittery start to the game, giving the ball away at every other touch, but managed to settle in later on in the game. He still lacks that extra creativity that Chelsea need in the midfield from someone like Luka Modric.

Sturridge (Off 80') -7.5
Proved his already-gleaming England credentials with killer instincts in this match. Sturridge displayed an excellent first touch and even better finishing to power the ball into the botttom of the goal past Al-Habsi.

Didier Drogba - 5
A poor game by Drogba's usual standards. The Ivorian was easily kept quiet by David Caldwell, who stuck to him like peanut butter on bread.

Juan Mata (Off ‘) - 5
A lacklustre performance at best for the usually-reliable Spaniard. Mata seemed out of ideas against Wigan's three-men defence and AVB would be justified for bringing on Obi Mikel for Mata.

Substitutes
Salomon Kalou (On 45') - 6
Came on and injected life to his side right after the restart, but faded away soon after.
John Obi Mikel (On 66') - 5
Brought stability to the side after coming on.
Josh McEachran (On 80') - N/A

Tottenham vs Chelsea Player Ratings
Tottenham and Chelsea played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane on Thursday evening.

By Sham Majid

Tottenham
Brad Friedel - 7
Personified his reputation as Mr Reliable with a couple of decent stops, especially when he foiled Ramires from close range when the Brazilian looked certain to score.

Kyle Walker - 7
Defended stoutly against the potential threats from Juan Mata but the roving fullback was unable to stamp his authority on the match offensively as he would have liked.

William Gallas - 6.5
Had a quiet night against his former employers and was always well protected by his defensive partner Ledley King.

Ledley King - 8
Playing in his first midweek match for more than a year, King demonstrated his precious worth to Spurs by marshalling his backline brilliantly. Made some important blocks especially towards the end and demonstrated his years of experience when he usurped Daniel Sturridge in a challenge after the latter had initially left King for dead with his pace.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto - 7
The Cameroonian was a constant menace to the Blues in the first half, as he linked up superbly with Gareth Bale time and again, much to Chelsea's chagrin. However, his influence faded off in the second half.

Gareth Bale - 9
The Welshman was at his rampaging best when he charged past the Blues defence on the left wing before relaying the ball on a platter for Adebayor to bundle home. Was easily Spurs' most dangerous player all night. Also showcased some exquisite ball control at times and his brilliant through-ball for Adebayor nearly settled the encounter just before injury time.

Sandro -8.5
The Brazilian was fantastic all night long as he hassled the Chelsea players and demonstrated hunger and aggression to foil any Chelsea attacks. His robust challenge saw him steal the ball from Sturridge which eventually culminated in his pass to Bale that led to Spurs' opening goal. He nearly stole the points for Tottenham with a header that flashed inches wide late on.

Scott Parker - 8.5
Epitomized his usual desire and appetite for big battles. He covered every blade of grass at White Hart Lane and shackled the Blues midfield non-stop for ninety minutes. The ex Chelsea man even joined in Spurs' attacking forays by galloping from his holding midfield role.

Luka Modric - 6.5
The Croatian was a little disappointing considering some of the superb displays he has churned out this campaign so far. While he was industrious and made himself available for Spurs' attacks, he did not really influence the match as he would have liked. Lacked his usual penetration and guile.

Rafael Van der Vaart (Off 45') - 6.5
The Dutchman also had a rather uneventful evening and his main contribution was perhaps his sliding challenge that culminated in Cole handling the ball and crossing for Sturridge to grab the leveler.

Emmanuel Adebayor - 8
The Togolese forward was a constant thorn in the Chelsea defence and showed deadly predatory instincts to prod home the opening goal. Linked up brilliantly with Bale at times and was unlucky not have grabbed the winner when John Terry blocked out his goal-bound effort.

Substitutes

Roman Pavlyuchenko (On 45') - 6
Was virtually anonymous when he came on and failed to inject any spark and creativity in the Spurs attack.

Chelsea
Petr Cech - 7
Could have maybe rushed out a little earlier to prevent Adebayor from nipping in first to score the opening goal. But the Czech custodian redeemed himself with a couple of important stops to ensure his side held out for a point.

Jose Bosingwa -6
Was absolutely roasted by Bale in the first half and simply had no answer to the midfielder's pace and dynamism. Improved slightly in the second half but still gave the ball away careless on numerous occasions.

Branislav Ivanovic (Off 33') - 6
Struggled to handle the movement and guile of the Spurs attack and received a yellow card for hauling down Bale. But the Serbian was forced off the pitch with a pulled hamstring.

John Terry - 8
Stood up in the face of adversity and led his team like a true skipper. Barracked all night by the Spurs faithful for his racism charge but Terry never wavered under the unbearable pressure and did his talking on the pitch. Nearly netted Chelsea's second with a flicked header that whistled just wide and blocked a certain Adebayor effort right at the death.

Ashley Cole - 7.5
Was Chelsea's main attacking outlet and that proved decisive after his cross was converted by Sturridge. More than held his own against counterpart Luka Modric.

Ramires - 8.5
The Brazilian was absolutely everywhere, galloping up and down the pitch to defend and attack. He missed a glorious one on one chance in the second half, shooting straight at Friedel.

John Mikel Obi (Off 45') -5
The Nigerian was a lumbering presence for Chelsea and had no answer to Tottenham's early spark and momentum. Struggled badly to get to grips with the game and was perhaps a blessing in disguise that he suffered an injury that saw him replaced.

Raul Meireles - 7
Like his colleagues, Meireles had a sluggish start but he soon recovered after Chelsea's equalizer and dictated his side's play in the second half.

Daniel Sturridge - 9
The best Chelsea player on the night. Although he was robbed off the ball by Sandro for Spurs' opener, he redeemed himself with Chelsea's equalizer, coolly hooking home a Cole cross. Caused Assou-Ekotto some problems with his pace and silky skills and kept trying his luck with some long range attempts.

Didier Drogba (Off 78') - 6.5
The towering Ivorian was not his usual imperious best, struggling to make his presence felt in the Chelsea attack. However, his flick did release Cole to cross home for Chelsea's equalizer. Really should have scored when he chested a Bosingwa cross but then smashed his shot against the post.

Juan Mata - 6.5
The Spaniard was a major let-down, failing to probe and test the Spurs defence with his usual jinking runs and neat interplays. Instead, he was left to feed on scraps and totally could not influence proceedings.

Substitutes
Paulo Ferreria (On 33') - 6.5
The veteran defender performed admirably at fullback after replacing Ivanovic, holding his own against the faster and more skilful Bale.

Oriol Romeu (on 45') - 7
Helped add some steel and muscle into Chelsea's central midfield and allowed the Blues to push on forward. Andre Villas-Boas' decision not to start with the Spaniard was baffling.

Fernando Torres (Off 78') - 6
Torres had too little time to make any notable impact and had no real input when he came on.
