The Red Devils are once again linked with the Spaniards...
English Premier League champions Manchester United are plotting an audacious £50m bid for Valencia’s exciting attacking duo of David Silva and David Villa.
The Spanish international pairing have been regularly linked with a move to Old Trafford since the summer, but in the end both players remained at the Mestalla and have been in good form in La Liga this season.
However, Los Che’s financial difficulties are well documented and it is likely both Silva and Villa will be sold in January in order to balance the books.
The Daily Telegraph comments that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson sees Silva as the long-term replacement to veteran Ryan Giggs, while Villa is regarded among the top strikers in European football.
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid seemed set to land Villa in the close season but Los Blancos instead opted for Karim Benzema while the Blaugrana signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Ferguson has watched his side lose to both Aston Villa and Fulham in the past week, and is desperate to boost his squad for a title push in the second half of the season, to stay in touch with current leaders Chelsea. |

Pemain Man Utd yang terselamat tragedi Munich meninggal dunia
LONDON: Bekas pemain Manchester United, Albert Scanlon, yang juga salah seorang yang terselamat dalam nahas pesawat di Munich, meninggal dunia hari ini.
Dalam lamam web kelab itu melaporkan, Scanlon, 74, atau lebih dikenali sebagai 'Busby Babes' kerana dipilih menyertai kelab ternama itu menerusi sistem latihan peringkat remaja, mula dilaporkan sakit sejak beberapa lama dahulu.
Beliau mula beraksi untuk United pada 1954 ketika usia 19 tahun dan namanya menyerlah ketika di bawah pengurusan Matt Busby.
Lapan rakan sepasukannya dan tiga pegawai terbunuh selepas pesawat yang membawa mereka untuk saingan Piala Eropah, terhempas di Lapangan Terbang Munich, Jerman pada 1959.
Scanlon mengalami patah kaki dan tulang belakang akibat nahas itu, tetapi pulih dan bermain semula bagi musim 1958/59 dengan meledak 16 gol bagi membantu United muncul sebagai naib juara Liga Perdana Inggeris.
Scanlon meninggalkan Old Trafford pada 1960, menamatkan enam tahun penyertaannya dengan bermain 127 untuk United dan menyumbang 35 gol.

Neville: BPL not a two-horse race
Gary Neville believes the 2009/10 Premier League title race could be the most competitive in years.
The veteran defender has helped Manchester United take the crown in each of the last three seasons, but their grip on the trophy could be slipping.
Chelsea lead the way from United heading into Christmas, with Arsenal, Aston Villa and Tottenham still well in the hunt.
Neville feels the increased competition in the English top flight is a positive sign and is adamant United and Chelsea will not be allowed to pull clear.
"I've been saying all along that it's not a two-horse race - it can change so quickly," said the experienced full-back.
"We've dropped points, Chelsea have dropped points, and it can close up at the top very quickly."
He added: "I think the Premier League is getting stronger, with teams like Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Villa spending a lot of money.
"But it's always been the case that all teams can beat one another in England." |
