IRC: Proton considers expansion

Proton considers running three cars on the IRC schedule

Team boss Chris Mellors has welcomed the addition of Giandomenico Basso to the Proton Motorsports team and revealed that the Anglo-Malaysian squad could add a third Satria Neo Super 2000 to its line-up on Intercontinental Rally Challenge events later this season.

Basso, a winner of four IRC rallies with Abarth in the past, was confirmed as a Proton driver last weekend and will contest a number of all-asphalt IRC rounds starting with next month's Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Ingles where he will join existing driver PG Andersson.

However, Mellors says Proton's attack could be expanded still further on selected events before the end of the season.

“We're delighted to have Giandomenico joining us for the IRC programme,” he said. “He comes with a wealth of experience of the sport at this level and there's no doubt he's going to give us an extra edge on the rallies where he's competing. This is an exciting time for Proton Motorsports. Not only have we finalised the IRC programme with this exciting development, we have the potential for a third car on some IRC rounds.”

Basso meanwhile has welcomed the move.

“When I tested the car in Italy, I felt two things,” he said. “I felt the car was good and I felt a warmth in the team. The car was easy to drive, which is really important, especially when you have events, which can have changeable conditions. Everything is very positive and it's great to be back working with a manufacturer.”

3)body propotion bagus (wheelbase pendek tapi lebar=stabil=handling)
4)cantik tu dah tentu

skang cusco japan dah siap boleh order untuk keter neo rally spec. groupN=keter neo enjin campro 145hp+gearbox straightcut a.k.a dogbox+LSD cusco+suspension cusco+chasis build by cusco

Loeb wins at Rally d'Italia Sardegna

Sebastien Loeb gains his 64th WRC victory as he wins at Sardegna and gains a seven point lead over Mikko Hirvonen of Ford Abu Dhabi's Ford Fiesta RS team. Ravi Ved narrates the rally weekend

Once again Citroen driver was leading and had to sweep his way to the chequered flag. He not just gained himself and his team a few points; he also gained a greater lead in the drivers’ championship table over arch rival Mikko Hirvonen.

oeb took lead over Hirvonen in the final stage of Day One, and the Frenchman didn’t mind doing the job of a sweeper for all the other drivers that followed. The 37-year old driver won his second rally in the 2011 season. At the end of Day One Loeb already had a 2.7 second lead over the ford Abu Dhabi driver. Following the duo was M-Sport Stobart’s Evgeny Novikov, who was almost 12seconds behind rally leader. Down in fourth was Novikov’s team-mate Mads Ostberg.

What brought further bliss and relaxation to the 7 times rally champion, was that Hirvonen’s right rear tyre got punctured while he ran wide in SS7 and as a result he dropped down to fourth. By the end of the events of the first day, Loeb had already managed to pull a lead of over half a minute but that was just not good enough for the Finnish driver. The Ford Abu Dhabi driver set three best times in SS9, SS10 and SS11 hence cutting down the lead to 23 seconds, but Loeb was truly driving the rally car with unimaginable proficiency.

The second day didn’t see any change in the first two places of the rally but the third place onwards saw an entire set of new names. Running in third place was Petter Solberg of Petter Solberg World Rally Team (PSWRT) his tyres went flat out in SS10. At the end of Day Two the top four places went to Loeb, Hirvonen, P. Solberg and Ogier.

If Hirvonen would only regain his glory up the drivers’ table if he would make sure he passed Loeb to take the first place. The Citroen Frenchman was in control throughout the rally and seemed determined to take the victory home. Judgment Day. Hirvonen swallowed a major portion of Loeb’s lead in the first stage of the day but a err from the Finnish Rally driver alter gave the edge back to the French rally driver. But one thing was clearly evident from the rally, Loeb was simply not satisfied no matter how much lead he gained over Hirvonen simply for the fact that he knows the Finn’s rallying capabilities.

The rally finished with Loeb taking the chequered flag nearly 11seconds ahead of Hirvonen who took the Power Stage victory with three extra points while team-mate Jari Matti Latvala finished in 18th. Petter Solberg finished in a satisfactory and his season best third place and was followed by Sebastien Ogier in fourth.

In the post-rally conference Loeb said, “Mikko was pushing very hard behind so we really had to take big risks all the time. It was really a hard fight but I did not believe at the start of the rally that I could make it like this.” Hirvonen on the other hand seemed extremely satisfied with his second place.

Five rallies into the season, the drivers’ championship is open with endless results. After his victory in Italy, Loeb is seven points ahead of Hirvonen. For the Finn to cover all those points he will have to consistently place first in the next two rallies, which he is highly capable of doing. With eight more rallies to go, and the front runners of the drivers’ championship fighting hard for the top of the table, the future of the season cannot be predicted.
