Amiable Chef Wan has just been conferred a Datukship by Acting Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, in celebration of the Federal Territory Day yesterday. But Chef Wan is quick to state that he prefers to be called "Chef Wan" or "Abang Wan" by his fans.
"There are so many Datuks in the country," the bubbly 52-year-old said. "But there's only one Chef Wan. So I'd like to be called by my pet name. It's more manja (endearing). It's also my own brand."
Well, you can start calling him "Tok Wan" (grandpa Wan) when the chef gets his first grandchild. "I've got a son-in-law this year (his daughter Serina got married last month), and I look forward to having my first grandchild," he said with a chuckle.
Just for the record, Chef Wan had turned down a Datukship four times! "I wasn't ready for it. Being a Datuk is such a huge responsibility."
But finally, mummy dearest put him on a guilt trip.
"I initially wanted to turn it down again," he said. "But my mum woke me up at 8am and forced me to sign the acceptance letter on the deadline day. My mum said she was already 78 and she could die tomorrow. And she would die in vain if she couldn't see me getting my Datukship. She said I deserved it 'coz I've worked so hard and cried so hard for my job. So I accepted it for her."
Now, forget about Chef Wan slowing down after being conferred a Datukship. The busy bee will be spending the next couple of months on a massive Malaysian food mission abroad. "I've got a Shanghai Food Expo coming up; followed by the first world cook book exhibition in Paris and the first Asian food fest in London. Yes, I'm going to use my Datukship to do more good for the country and the people." |

kerabat pahang kan byk kawan gan artis sbb tu sultan pahang baik bebonar bg gelaran kat depa....baru nk berjaya sikit dh mcm2 gelaran dpt pasnie surelah makin besar lah lubang idup si emylia tukannn..dpt title datin gitu...wawawaaaaakahhhhh |
