PETALING JAYA: A 35-year-old woman is living under constant harassment from loan sharks after her former husband listed her as his guarantor when taking loans, though they have been divorced for nearly 10 years.

The woman, who wished to be known only as Too, has received countless calls and messages from five different loan sharks since last Wednesday.

They told her they were looking for her ex-husband, Tan Hong Wei, who allegedly borrowed an unknown amount of money from them and went missing.

Though she had lost contact with Tan for several years, the loan sharks insisted that she locate him or be forced to settle his loans, as she had been named as his guarantor.

While one of the loan sharks said Tan had borrowed RM10,000 from them, Too said the others did not reveal the amount owed to them.

Too’s former husband, Tan Hong Wei, had allegedly taken loans listing her as a guarantor.

Her two daughters, aged 14 and 15, were also targets of the loan sharks’ threats, with one of them claiming that they had her children’s personal information.

“They told me that my children and family should be careful and warned that my house could be splashed with red paint.

“Basically, they just want to find out where he is, but if they can’t find him, I’ll have to bear the consequences,” she said at a press conference organised by MCA public services and complaints department chief Michael Chong

Too said her former husband had used their address at Batu 9, Cheras when taking the loans.

“During these 10 years, you have never taken on your responsibility as a father,” she told Tan. “We have our own lives now, stop bothering us. Come out and face up to your problems if you are a real man.”

Too said that before their divorce in 2013, Tan had asked her for RM20,000 which he claimed he owed following a failed business endeavour.

She said she gave him the money and asked for a divorce, thinking that she would finally be free from his constant financial woes.

Chong warned the loan sharks to stop bothering Too, saying the department was also doing their best to look for Tan.

He also urged residents at Batu 9, Cheras to help look out for her family as their safety was under threat.

Sindrom perasan tahap tenat. Fefeeling macam bank pulak nak suruh peminjam dia namakan penjamin. Bank boleh guna saluran undang undang dengan penjamin. Spesies haprak macam ah long pulak setakat nak bayar wang perlindungan kat abang long kawasan pun dah menggelupur

Ah long semua bila kena reman 4 hari akan cuba kelentong konon mereka hanya masuk lokap dua jam saja. Malu nak mengaku mereka lemah longlai hina dina.
