Bunyi Bising dan Bahan Kimia - Penyebab pekerja hilang pendengaran

A study carried out by Spanish researchers has shown that the presence of chemical contaminants can interact with noise and modify, for good or for bad, the way in which work-related "deafness" - which is increasingly common among young people - manifests itself. Noise-related hearing loss is the most common occupational disease in Europe.

"Workers exposed to noise in the presence of metalworking fluids exhibit a delay in hearing alteration in comparison with those exposed only to noise at the same intensity. However, those exposed to noise in the presence of welding fumes experience increased hearing alteration", Juan Carlos Conte, lead author of the study and a researcher at the University of Zaragoza, tells SINC.

In the study, published in Anales del Sistema Sanitario de Navarra, the team analysed the way in which various physical and chemical contaminants interact, and the impact this had on hearing alteration in 558 metal workers
"A problem we detected with respect to welding fumes in the presence of noise was that the protection used is effective for reducing the intensity of noise, but not for reducing the effects of the chemical contaminant", Conte explains.
Cellulose masks or others made of similar compounds have little effect in this case, since their capacity to filter particles (such as charcoal) has no effect on toxic gas molecules (such as carbon monoxide).

However, in noisy atmospheres with metalworking fluids, people have the advantage of being able to use masks as respiratory protection, although the ear protection must be used in the same way to ensure that a person is comprehensively protected from noise.

The researchers point to other factors in work-related hearing loss. For example, tobacco contributes to the acquisition of initial acoustic trauma, while exposure to noise outside the work environment also impacts on advanced acoustic injury.

Too much noise at work
The European Agency for [color=blue ! important][size=13.3333px][color=blue ! important][size=13.3333px]Safety [color=blue ! important][size=13.3333px]and [color=blue ! important][size=13.3333px]Health at Work (EU-OSHA, 2006) recognises that noise-related hearing loss is the most common professional [color=blue ! important][size=13.3333px][color=blue ! important][size=13.3333px]disease seen in Europe, and suggests greater focus should be placed on combined risk factors in workers exposed to high noise levels and chemical compounds.

Recent studies carried out in the United States (Agrawall et al. 2009) and New Zealand (Thorne et al. 2008) show that noise-related hearing loss is one of the most widely spread professional illnesses in those countries. They concluded that the classic methods used to control this problem have not had the expected results, and detected ever-increasing prevalence, particularly in young people.

*welding fumes

kt kilang malaysia, heavy safety kpd para pekerja dipraktikkn ker tak? sian gak kt diorg

sbb masih current issue, aku letak snih dulu...nnt akn dipindahkn ke MKST

dulu masa praktikal kat satu jabatan kimia, ada seorang chemist kanan ni 3 kali keguguran..akhirnya dia buat keputusan untuk berenti kerja.tak lama lepas tu elok je melahirkan anak..mungkin bukan rezeki dia kerja di situ.atau ada kaitan dengan bahan kimia?

masa aku pegi course NIOSH...dorang ada ceramah...pekerja RTM dapat kanser hidung (?) ke kanser paru2 (?)...tapi kanser laa...sebab tak gunakan PPE masa cuci gambar...kimia yg digunakan untuk cuci gambar tu merbahaya dihidu untuk jangka masa panjang...pekerja RTM tu dah terlibat dgn kerja tu selama 20thn....lepas 20thn tu baru dia tersedar yg dia mendapat kanser akibat menghidu bahan kimia tersebut tanpa apa2 protection....tapi dia buleh klaim SOCSO....

yup..klu kita menghidu bhn kimia ni
mmg berbahaya

cth klu ade chemist laki yg sdg buat ekperimen

kan??

kesian kt pekerja2 nih
diorg ni bukan tau sgt safety

so ini tanggungjwb majikan
yg sepatutnya menguruskn kebajikan mereka
terutamanya dlm mengetatkn segala peraturan

HSO rata-ratanya mengeluh susahnya nak suruh pekerja ni semua ikut peraturan..

memang susah nak disiplin pekerja soh dorang gunakan PPE...masa buat pemantauan je dorang pakai...lepas tu dorang bukak balik....ada yg biasa aku dgr...dorang suka sgt mengeluh katanya respirator tu buat dia lemas...pada aku kalau dah hazard area pakai je laa...jadi pape dia sniri jugak yg susah

HSE tu mende?

HSE is Health, Safety & Environment.. Some people says EHS, or ESH... What ever...

dulu masa praktikal kat satu jabatan kimia, ada seorang chemist kanan ni 3 kali keguguran..akhirnya dia buat keputusan untuk berenti kerja.tak lama lepas tu elok je melahirkan anak..mungkin bukan rezeki dia kerja di situ.atau ada kaitan dengan bahan kimia?

Based on my analysis, aku berpendapat bahawa chemist berkenaan tidak memahami peraturan keselamatan asas di dalam makmal.. As a chemist / analyst IN THE LAB, they should wear safety glass, appropriate lab coat / apron, face mask as well as appropriate safety shoes.

couldn't agree more!

katanya masa tu malaysia tak concern lagi pasal safety2 ni....sebab tu majikan termasuk kerajan tak menitik beratkan soal safety..

Not only M'sia but most of ASIAN countries mmg tiada kesedaran dalam menjaga hak kebajikan pekerja..

HSO rata-ratanya mengeluh susahnya nak suruh pekerja ni semua ikut peraturan..

Mmg.. Aku bersetuju... That's why some people says HSE = Industrial human engineering

kalau ko biasa terlibat dengan geng radiografi (NDT) ni lagilah, cukup liat nak pakai alat-alat monitoring ni semua..kerja dah berbelas tahun tapi tak pernah tak buat salah. kena overdose baru nak mengelabah..

kesedaran tu tak de...
pastu komplen

dh tau berbahaya, yg tulah mesti dipraktikkn
so dh kena penyakit nnt, nak salah sapa? majikan gak..

berbalik kpd topik thread
-majikan perlu sediakn dan ketatkn HSE..patutnye ade org seliakn pekerja yg tidak mematuhi peraturan ni?
-pekerja plak perlu sedar..klu dh keje tmpt mcm tu, they should know the risk, so mesti ikut peraturan

mcm cyclotron cakap...pekerja yg dah belas2 tahun pon masih tak dapat nak disiplinkan diri lagi....ini bukan kurang kesedaran daus...kalu nak kata kurang kesedaran tak jugak...dorang tahu dorang sedar... tapi takdak disiplin yg betulnya...ada sesetengah kilang ni mereka ada sesi latihan dan ceramah pasal safety ni....malah ada sesetengah plant dorang bayar tau kalau join mana2 training yg pihak kilang/plant anjurkan....macam FPG tu sehari tak silap aku rm250 ke rm350 tah....makan minum pihak majikan tanggung....

sektor pembinaan memang tak seketat industri minyak gas dan kimia...malah pekerja boleh buat penginapan sementara dlm tapak pembinaan...kalu ikutkan tu bahaya...dgn crane lagi...dgn habuk besi seme tu...tapak pembinaan jugak takde peraturan dimana org luar boleh masuk sesuka hati tanpa pass masuk...dari sudut keselamatan memang zero....bahan2 binaan sewenang2nya buleh dikeluarkan/dicuri tanpa record

bro cyclo.. ko keja bidang NDT yek? Tapi kalau nak dapat tender dgn syarikat besar, dia akan tengok rekod syarikat terutama dalam Occupational Safety & Health serta Waste Disposal of the film..

Betullah tu bro.. Dah over-dose, hah! Nganga lah mulut..

majikan perlu sediakn dan ketatkn HSE..patutnye ade org seliakn pekerja yg tidak mematuhi peraturan ni?

Masalahnya bro, sebahagian syarikat (biasanya sebahagian besar syarikat kejuruteraan (kelas B dan ke bawah) spend little budget bila cakap pasal OSH nie..

thx katyusah for the explaination...
katyusah ade pengalaman menyelia keje kilang ni yek?

kuli je bro... Cullicutive..

malah pekerja boleh buat penginapan sementara dlm tapak pembinaan...kalu ikutkan tu bahaya...dgn crane lagi...dgn habuk besi seme tu...tapak pembinaan jugak takde peraturan dimana org luar boleh masuk sesuka hati tanpa pass masuk...dari sudut keselamatan memang zero.

Benar bro.. crane + hazardous condition + dust, semata-mata utk menjimatkan kos, syarikat-syarikat ini sanggup biar pekerja beliau duduk dan nginap dalam construction site..
