This chelsea player, atkinson, was so good today, let's be honest. He is opponent's player, but we have to say the truth. His assists to his teammates were brilliant. He created several goal scoring opportunities.

He played very well the whole 90 mins.

This is the player, every club should have. Very dedicative to his cause...

Manchester United's hopes of landing Manuel Neuer have been dramatically revived after Schalke's chairman invited them to make an official bid for the Germany keeper.

Neuer has long been the top name on United's list of targets to succeed Edwin van der Sar, but Sir Alex Ferguson feared he was bound for Bayern Munich.

He could yet fill the gap left by Van der Sar's impending retirement, though, after Schalke chief Clemens Tonnies said: 'I have been informed by an international consultant that United are interested in signing Manuel.

'Provided they submit a written offer, we will deal with the matter and give them permission to speak to him.'

The 24-year old has 18 months left on his current contract, and though Schalke are still trying to persuade him to sign a new one, they are resigned to losing him, after struggling to challenge for a European place in the Bundesliga.

Neuer is ambitious about playing at a higher level and looked to be heading for Bayern Munich at the end of the season after Louis Van Gaal expressed an interest in him and was privately assured an approach would be welcomed by the Germany number one.

But, in a surprise move by Tonnies, United have at least been given the chance to state their case and attempt to talk the Schalke favourite into uprooting from his home town and testing himself in the Barclays Premier League.

The opportunity will be welcomed by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who has already signed Anders Lindegaard but wants at least one more proven keeper, in readiness for van der Sar's departure at the end of the season.

United have also been linked with Julio Cesar, Pepe Reina, Maarten Stekelenburg, Rene Adler and Hugo Lloris, but Neuer has consistently been under closest review.

Chelsea came from behind to notch a reinvigorating 2-1 win over Manchester United on Tuesday. While Alex Ferguson chalked it up to bad referee decisions, Chelsea are taking it as reason to believe that they are not a bunch of old men in hospice care. But there is still one question that remains as the rush of blood to Fergie's nose subsides...what if it continued?

97' -- Referee catches himself singing "Blue is the Color," tries to cover by making himself cough until he actually kind of chokes on his own saliva. Fergie sees this, no longer thinks he's favoring Chelsea and is just a spaz. Atkinson quietly exclaims, "Success!"
101' -- Though no longer in the match, David Luiz sneaks over to the Man United bench and bodychecks Paul Scholes. Scholes asks the heavens how anyone could get away with such a flagrant offense.
108' -- Didier Drogba fails to score, blames malaria and previously undiagnosed case of the black plague.
113' -- Back in the dressing room, Nemanja Vidic tries to reprogram himself to get revenge on Atkinson for sending him off, but he does it wrong and targets "Mr. Bean" actor Rowan Atkinson instead.
120' -- Rio Ferdinand calls someone an #egg on Twitter, high-fives himself for being so witty.
125' -- Still looking for his first Chelsea goal, Fernando Torres tries to remember what he did before years of playing for Liverpool eroded his skills. All he can hear is Steven Gerrard talking about the time Phil Collins played "Sussudio" and forgot some of the words.
132' -- Wayne Rooney wonders when he'll catch a break. Also, when doctors will find a cure for short-term memory loss and obscene masses of freckles.
136' -- Ashley Cole pulls an air rifle out of nowhere and begins "larking about" with it. He accidentally shoots Man Utd's Rafael, but no one cares because they have another one.
138' -- The dead horse that is Ashley Cole shooting jokes continues to be dead.
140' -- Incensed that his boys are still losing, Fergie gives the hairdryer treatment to the fourth official, who immediately signals eight days of added time. Fergie smiles. Finally something fair.

Carrick extends United stay

Michael Carrick has signed a new contract with Manchester United that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2014.

Although Carrick has not enjoyed the best of seasons, he has improved in recent games, and with Sir Alex Ferguson beginning the process of reshaping his squad he was keen to keep the 29-year-old who joined from Tottenham in 2006.

"I am thoroughly enjoying my time at this great club," said Carrick.

"There is a fantastic team spirit within the squad and I am pleased to have committed my future to United."

The news came barely 20 minutes after Sir Alex Ferguson was charged with improper conduct by the Football Association following comments made about referee Martin Atkinson immediately after United's 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

That game marked Carrick's 218th United appearance and his new three-year deal will offer the opportunity to make many more.

Having already collected three Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy in his time with the Red Devils, the England international is keen for United to put their midweek setback behind them and focus on collecting more silverware.

"We are in a very good position at the moment and I am confident this team will be successful for many years to come," he said.

With Paul Scholes' future undecided and Anderson struggling with injuries, Carrick's playmaking abilities are likely to come in very handy on the run-in, with Ferguson delighted Carrick has joined Ryan Giggs and Patrice Evra, who have also recently signed contract extensions.

"I am delighted Michael has signed a new contract," said Ferguson.

"He has been outstanding since joining us from Tottenham in 2006. He is a true professional and it is great he has committed his future to the club."
