Nani confident in crucial week

United wing wizard Nani has labelled the next week “the most important period of the season”.

Victory over Wigan at the DW Stadium on Saturday leaves the Reds four points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Barclays Premier League. But Sir Alex’s men must now navigate tricky away trips to Chelsea (Tuesday 1 March) and Liverpool (6 March) before welcoming Arsenal to Old Trafford (Saturday 12 March) for an FA Cup quarter-final.

“We have some tough games coming up,” Nani told ManUtd.com.

“It’s the most important period of the season and I think that if we can beat Chelsea and Liverpool then we’ll have a fantastic opportunity to win the league.

“But that’s easy to say: it’s much harder to do it. Chelsea and Liverpool are fantastic teams and obviously they’re desperate to win as well. We know it won’t be easy.

“Of course, we may not be able to win every game, and if we end up getting a draw against somebody then it’s not the end of the world.

"The important thing is not to lose. But we always go into games with the mentality of winning.”
TheReds have been criticised in some quarters this season for beingefficient rather than entertaining, particularly on the road. Naniacknowledges United have struggled to fire away from Old Trafford butdismisses any suggestion that he or his team-mates currently lackconfidence.

“We’re top of the league so of course we feel goodabout ourselves. And we must have been doing something right to havereached this point.
"Now it’s important we keep believing in ourselves and concentrate on playing football the way we want to play football.
“We can’t think about other teams and whether or not they’re winning or losing – we just need to win our own games.”

Saham Hernandez naik

GAYA Hernandez ketika meledak gol pertama United dalam perlawanan  menentang Wigan  semalam. United menang 4-0.

Gol pertama, dia melakukan larian pantas sebelum bijak mengatasipemain lawan.

“Bagi gol kedua pula, dia melakukan larian baik sambil membaca dengan tepat lorongan Rooney,” ujar Ferguson. – Reuters

Rooney ghairah mahu ‘roboh’ Stamford Bridge

2011/03/01

- Agensi

Chelsea vs Man Utd Preview

Wayne Rooney has been cleared to play in Manchester United's crucial Premier League showdown with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Rooney has escaped further punishment after catching Wigan's James McCarthy in the head with his elbow at the DW Stadium at the weekend.

Ryan Giggs is battling to overcome a hamstring strain but Sir Alex Ferguson said on Saturday that none of his other walking wounded will be available for the Premier League leaders.

Carlo Ancelotti has refused to confirm whether Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba or both will lead the Chelsea attack.

Ancelotti must decide whether to recall Drogba after the striker once again started on the bench in last week's Champions League win at FC Copenhagen.

Ashley Cole will definitely start despite being punished for accidentally shooting a student with an air gun.

David Luiz returns to the squad after being ineligible for the last two matches but Alex (knee) and Yossi Benayoun (Achilles) are still sidelined.

Teams:

Chelsea (from): Cech, Bosingwa, Ferreira, Terry, Luiz, Ivanovic, Zhirkov, Cole, Mikel, Essien, Lampard, Ramires, McEachran, Kalou, Malouda, Anelka, Torres, Drogba, Turnbull.

Manchester United (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Lindegaard, O'Shea, Rafael, Smalling, Vidic, Brown, Evra, Fabio, Nani, Carrick, Fletcher, Scholes, Gibson, Giggs, Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez, Bebe, Obertan.

Match Pack: Chelsea

Sir Alex takes the leaders in search of a first win at Stamford Bridge since 2002 in Tuesday’s rearranged clash...

Form guide
Ailing champions Chelsea are 15 points behind United in the table, albeit with a game in hand, and third place would appear to be the best they can achieve this term, though they may feel they are back in the title race if they win on Tuesday. The Blues appeared to have turned the corner after their dramatic mid-season slump, but have won neither of their last two league games and are out of the FA Cup. United moved four points clear of Arsenal at the summit on Saturday with a biggest away win of the campaign, 4-0 at Wigan. The Reds are perhaps overdue some good fortune in west London, as several good performances in recent seasons have not been rewarded with three points.

Ins and outs
Ashley Cole is set to play for Chelsea after being reprimanded for a training ground incident involving an air rifle, while fit-again defender Yury Zhirkov could make his first league appearance since November. Alex and Yossi Benayoun are both sidelined, and boss Carlo Ancelotti will decide which two of Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka to start with. Ryan Giggs (hamstring) should be available for United, but the game comes too soon for Rio Ferdinand (calf) and Jonny Evans (ankle). Javier Hernandez may have put himself in the reckoning for another starting berth after his brace at the DW Stadium.

Star man
With Torres yet to get off the mark for his new club and Drogba reportedly unhappy at being left out, Anelka has stepped up to  the plate for Ancelotti. The French striker has enjoyed a new lease of life at Stamford Bridge after years of apparent discontent at other clubs, and is Chelsea’s leading scorer this term with 16 goals in all competitions, including both in the 2-0 Champions League last-16 win at FC Copenhagen last week.

Manager
Ancelotti is a man under pressure. On Monday he denied losing control of his squad following the Cole incident, but speculation is rife that he’ll leave the club at the end of the season. After managerial success with Juventus and AC Milan, preceded by Reggiana and Parma, Carlo was appointed Chelsea boss in 2009. The Italian led the Blues to the League and FA Cup double in his first term, but his only realistic chance of picking up silverware this season appears to be in the Champions League.

Referee
Martin Atkinson will take charge on Tuesday, having originally been due to referee the game in December. The Yorkshireman has awarded the most penalties (10) and red cards (nine) of any Premier League official this season; two of those dismissals came in United’s 2-0 win over Wigan at Old Trafford in November. His last Reds game was the 2-1 cup win at Southampton in January.

Rivals watch
There are no other midweek Premier League games, meaning United can open up a seven-point lead at the top if all goes to plan in west London. Nearest challengers and beaten Carling Cup finalists Arsenal are next in league action on Saturday, at home to Sunderland; before then they have an FA Cup fifth-round replay to contend with, at home to Leyton Orient on Wednesday.
