Apple iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 are both high performance tablets from Apple and Samsung. Apple recently released iPad 2 packed with Dual-core Apple A5 processor and powered by Apple iOS 4.3 and sized at 9.7 inches with dual camera. Samsung recently released Galaxy Tab 10.1 with high end  1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 Dual Core  processor with 1 GM RAM with 8 Megapixel rear camera. Considering the consumer market Samsung also released Galaxy Tab 8.9 with almost the same configuration and WXGA 1280 x 800 resolution which is better than iPad 2.

iPad 2 is 8.8 mm thickness and 613 g whereas Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is 8.6 mm and 470 g. Optimised size with excellent weight supported by  Android 3.0 Honeycomb features with Samsung UX  would really make high competition in the Tablet market. Samsung owned user interface for Android 3.0 Honeycomb provides live panel home screen with custom widgets with excellent application switching feature.

Speed, Performance and User Experience

As discussed above Apple iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 both use 1 GHz dual core processors with 512 MB and 1 GB RAM respectively. But Processor design architecture and operating system performances are difference in each other. So it’s difficult to compare them only based on speed on the configuration point of view. But the real performance difference and User Experience would be impacted by the difference between Apple iOS 4.3 and Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

By user experience Android browsers are faster than Apple Safari and the Android browsers supports  Adobe Flash that give more value to Samsung Tab 8.9 on top of its physical design. And another advantage on Samsung Tab 8.9 is Google related applications like Gmail, YouTube, Maps and more. Android 3.0 comes with Native Gmail client, Google Native YouTube player and Google Talk whereas in Apple iPad 2, Apple uses normal email client to retrieve emails from Gmail and Google Talk web based application. How ever Tablet market will be saturated soon with Motorola Xoom, Blackberry Playbook, LG Optimus 3D PAD and HP, Dell Pads.

Difference Between Samsung Galaxy Tab and Apple iPad

Samsung Galaxy Tab and Apple iPad both are compititive tablets from Samsung and Apple.Samsung has created a real competition to Apple iPad with its new product, Galaxy Tablet. We have discussed here on how Samsung’s Galaxy Tab differ from the Apple’s iPad.
The major difference is: Samsung Galaxy Tab comes with phone feature. It has integrated the phone in to the Galaxy Tab. Whereas, absence of this feature may be seen by users as a drawback in Apple iPad. With Tab, you can either use speaker phone or Bluetooth.

Hardware:
Galaxy Tab is smaller and lighter, the tablet screen is just 7-inch TFT LCD whereas Apple iPad is large 9.7″ LED IPS. Screen resolution is almost same and multitouch.

Dimensions of Samsung Galaxy Tablet: 7.48 x 4.74 x 0.47 inches

Apple iPad is quiet heavy; 1.5 pounds for Wi-Fi model and 1.6 pounds for 3G model. The Tablet weighs less than a pound, it is only 0.84 pounds.

Both Samsung’s tablet and Apple’s iPad have the same speed processor but Galaxy Tab has got twice the RAM (512MB).  iPad has got only 256 MB RAM.

Internal storage capacity is almost same for both. Apple iPad has got 3 options; 16GB, 32GB or 64GB. Samsung offer 16GB or 32GB. But the Galaxy Tablet supports up to 32GB of expandable storage. iPad’s limitation to internal space only will certainly be viewed by users as a disadvantage.
Another added feature of Galaxy Tab is it two cameras; a rear-facing 3.2-megapixel camera and a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video chatting. Apple’s current iPad models do not have cameras.
When it comes to batteries, Apple has a longer life time; Apple claims that its iPad can last up to 10 hours of video playback on Wi-fi model and 9 hours on 3G model. Galaxy’s battery life is up to 7 hours of video playback.

Software
Samsung Galaxy Tab run on Google’s Android 2.2, plans are afoot to upgrade the operating system to 3.0
Apple iPad runs iOS 3.2, iOS 4.1 and upgradeable to iOS 4.2.
Android 2.2 Operating System gives the tablet many advantages over Apple’s iPad iOS 3.2.
Android supports full multitasking, Adobe Flash, and in addition to Android App allows unrestricted access to external applications.
iOS 3.2 does not support multi tasking and Adobe Flash; it also has restriction on access to other market applications. Users have access to Apple App only. Upgrade to iOS 4.02 is expected to bring some improvement in this.

Setelah menggunakan iPhone dan MacBook Pro dari Apple, of course kalau aku beli tablet pc, iPad menjadi pilihan.. Apple Tech beza dgn yang lain-lain.. Dah guna, baru tau sbb apa product Apple sedikit mahal daripada yang lain.. Kita beli technology mereka.. Dan jangan lupa, App Store merupakan gedung application yang paling besar di dunia..

And Apple, please don't sell cheap device.. We want your quality and technology..

Moveable feast: iPad 2 or MacBook Air?

Here's a dilemma whose answer is potentially rife with geeky politics. Should I buy a 2010 MacBook Air or an iPad 2? Both offer a veritable mobile feast of form and function.

To set the stage, you want to make the move to the 11.6-inch, 2.3-pound MacBook Air (MBA), but you have a hankering for the spanking-new 1.3-pound iPad 2, as well. Because money doesn't grow on trees, you have to make a choice. Which ultraportable device will it be?

I would submit that it's not an easy choice. Of course, the iPad 2 is cheaper, but it's hamstrung by its very essence: a glorified smartphone. On the other hand, its finely tuned multitouch interface makes it great for media consumption, and it's instantly usable anywhere because of the built-in 3G and feathery weight.

Here are a few big-picture items to consider. For the record, I have both a MacBook Air and iPad and use both every day.

3G: In this respect, the MBA is not the iPad's equal. The iPad 2 is offered with both Verizon and AT&T 3G. But wait. Apple may be addressing this. A recent patent filing by Apple shows a MacBook with an interesting 3G antenna, akin to the MagSafe connection on MacBooks (see graphic below).

Media consumption: The iPad 2 is, in many user scenarios,superior to the MBA for browsing and media consumption because of themultitouch interface. Moreover, all of that has gotten even better withthe iPad 2 owing to, among other things, the dual-core processor andimproved graphics silicon.


Productivity: The iPad is not designed to be a productivity tool and does not come with a full-blownMac OS X or full-blown OS X applications.


I'll offer a few of salient examples. On the 11.6-inch MacBook Airwith the full-blown OS X you can run handy little programs likeParallels, which lets you run Microsoft Windows. And, of course, youhave the ability to run programs likeMicrosoft Officeand Adobe Photoshop. (Yes, the larger MacBook Pros are more suitablefor Photoshop). On the iPad, you have to settle forless-than-satisfying app store productivity substitutes.

A 3G/4G MacBook may be in the works. A patent granted to Apple appears to be a MagSafe-like antenna.

Price: The final arbiter is often price (mixed with theallure the iPad 2 now has: it seems to be sold out everywhere andeveryone seems to want one).


The least expensive MBA is $999,while the most expensive iPad 2 is only $829. And most consumers, ofcourse, opt for the even cheaper 16GB iPad 3G for $629 or the Wi-Fionly version for $499.


On price alone, it's no contest for many people.


Verdict:The quick-and-dirty verdict... on my bang-for-the-buck index theMacBook Air wins. In short, it's the best of both worlds--about asclose as a featherweight clamshell laptop can get to an iPad.


Youget both productivity software and great browsing and media consumptionall in one device. And, lest we forget, it's a lot faster than theiPad. Intel processors crush the iPad's silicon in any performancebenchmark. And this will be even more compelling when Intel's newestSandy Bridge processors are added to the Air.


Both are great devices, but it comes down to one being more versatile than the other without being a lot more expensive.  
(Note: I may be irking some readers by limiting the selection to two Apple products, but that's the scope of this post.)

In my case, x perlu MacBook Air sbb ai dah ade MacBook Pro.. Bagi ai la kan, iPad/iPad2 ni sesuai untuk org yg sudah memiliki laptop.. Tablet pc ni lebih utk santai, baca2 suratkhabar sambil baring, blogging, bawak utk presentation (setelah buat slaid kat laptop di rumah)..

So kalau nak banding antara MBA dgn iPad2 mmg kurang sesuai la sbb dedua dalam species berlainan. Mcm ai cakap tadi, beli iPad kalau sudah memiliki laptop..

tapi kan haku ada beberapa soalan cepumas

- kalu kita nak REPLACE laptop kita, adakah table pilihan yg sesuai, (ipad takleh office, tab bulah kan)

- kalu tak sesuai, kalu seseorang tu hanya mampu beli satu je, patut beli netbook/macbook air ke atau tablet cam tab

p/s : soalan diatas tidak releven kpd mereka yang ada duit lebih

X sure yang tab tu sbb x pernah pegang lagi. Macam ipad, boleh utk nak baca and buat sedikit editing utk file2 Microsoft Office dengan guna application DocumentToGo.. Untuk nak buat dari zero, x sesuai..

Jadi sekiranya memang boleh beli satu sahaja disebabkan sekatan budget, jawapan ai adalah angkatla macbook air.. Kalau 11" tu RM3099.. Kalau tambah RM600, dapat beli macbookpro yang jauh lebih tinggi processor and hdd dia, cuma dia xla seringan macbook air. Nak jimat beli online kat Apple Malaysia dan pakai id student utk dapat diskaun RM300 untuk kedua dua model di atas (sila tolak sendiri).

Beza paling ketara ialah App Store dan Android market

App Store dah lama dan matang, jadi application yang dijual lebih byk.. Ya.. Jual.. Tapi kalau anda pandai jailbreak, semua apps tersebut menjadi free (sila ke thread Apple Iphone kat sebelah, ada cara utk jailbreak)

Android market masih baru dan sedang membangun.. Jadi application yang ada masih belum banyak tetapi dah dalam mode untuk diperbanyakkan, maybe masa akan dpt lebih byk. Apa yg saya dgr, android market masih belum boleh untuk beli apps2 dia utk pengguna malaysia sbb isu byk fraud di Malaysia. Maybe masa akan dtg boleh.. Tapi boleh download apps kat forum2 lain yang berkaitan android.. Boleh cari ye

Oleh itu saya sekali lagi menegaskan, dalam hal application, Apple-iPad masih mendahului.

Oh ya, satu lagi dari segi sensitivity touch screen.. Tapi yang ni x sure kesahihan.. Samsung punya kurang sensitip banding ipad.. Especially masa guna OS Froyo.. Tak tau lla bila guna gingerbread masalah ni selesai ke tak. Takpe, bagi peluang utk mereka utk baik keadaan dalam OSnya yang akan dtg. Tapi just nak maklumkan, ios iaitu OS pada ipad dalam proses untuk upgrade utk guna multigesture mcm pada macbook.. Multigesture ni maknanya ada berbezaan bila guna 1 jari, guna 2 jari serentak, guna 3 jari serentak and guna 4 jari serentak. Semuanya memberi kesan yang berbeza pada sistem di iOS.. Tapi ia masih belum dilaksanakan secara official (orang2 yang dah jailbreak sahaja dah guna benda ni).. Tapi technology ni mmg dah guna pakai pada trackpad (mousepad) pada macbook..

Ya.. Berkenaan untuk buat call out.. Mmg iPad tak boleh untuk call out mcm biasa, guna simcard n nombor telefon.. Tapi cmon la, zaman sekarang dah moden. Byk application lain mcm skype, viber yang membolehkan kita call out dengan menggunakan internet connection.. Dan ianya free tanpa perlu membayar bil telefon.. Itu yang saya katakan tadi, application begitu byk di App Store.. Mcm2 apps yang menguntungkan boleh kita guna..

Yup dedua adalah tablet PC.. iPad tu model utk tablet PC bg Apple.. Dan kalau x silap, Apple mula dulu tablet PC versi besar sket ni, pastu ramai copycat..
