Nicol David To Be Inducted Into WSF Hall of Fame

Malaysia’s world number one Nicol David will be inducted into the World Squash Federation Hall of Fame as part of the World Squash Awards programme at the World Open Championship/WSF AGM dinner in Rotterdam on Saturday (5 November 2011).
The 28-year-old from Penang, who is going for a record sixth women’s World Open title in the Dutch city this week.

David is enjoying a distinguished career in Squash:

After becoming the first ever double winner of the biennial world junior title in 2001, she went on to begin an unbroken reign at the top of the world rankings in August 2006 – in March this year becoming the second longest-standing world number one of all-time. She already has 55 World Tour titles to her credit, and equalled mentor Sarah Fitz-Gerald‘s five world title record last year.

Nicol has almost single-handedly put squash on the map in her home country – and earlier this year won a record eighth Malaysian Sportswoman of the Year award. She won her first of three (quadrennial) Asian Games gold medals in 1998, aged just 15, and in April this year claimed her eighth successive (biennial) Asian Championship crown.

On hearing of her WSF Hall of Fame induction, Nicol said: “It is great to be recognised while I am still competing – and to have my achievements compared with the top players in history.
“It is truly fantastic and I am really honoured.
“But even though I have been playing the professional circuit for over ten years this honour doesn’t mean I plan to finish yet!” added the hugely popular Penangite.

Past WSF Hall of Fame winners are:

F.D. Amr Bey - Egypt (6 British Open titles: 1933-1938)

Janet Shardlow (Morgan) – England (10 British Open titles: 1950-1959)

Hashim Khan - Pakistan (7 British Open titles: 1951-1958)

Jonah Barrington - Ireland (6 British Open titles: 1967-1973)

Heather McKay (Blundell) – Australia (2 World & 16 British Open titles: 1962-1979)

Geoff Hunt - Australia (7 World Open/Individual & 8 British Open titles: 1967-1981)

Susan Devoy - New Zealand (4 World Open & 8 British Open titles: 1984-1992)

Jahangir Khan - Pakistan (8 World Open/Individual & 10 British Open titles: 1979-1991)

Michelle Martin - Australia (3 World Open & 6 British Open titles: 1993-2000)

Jansher Khan - Pakistan (8 World Open & 6 British Open titles: 1987-2000)

Sarah Fitz-Gerald - Australia (5 World Open & 2 British Open titles: 1996-2002)

Nicol David - Malaysia (5 World Open & 3 British Open titles: 2005 - to date)

Nota TT: Bagi yang ingin tahu kenapa World Open & British Open titles yang dihighlight, kedua - dua title tersebut merupakan yg paling berprestij (Juara Dunia & Terbuka British-kalo tennis, serupa macam Grand Slam). Menjadi impian setiap pemain squash dunia utk dapat both titles.

Sebagai peminat Nicol David, TT ingin highlight extraordinary achievements beliau:

- Menduduki takhta ranking No. 1 dunia selama hampir 6 tahun berturut2 (2006 - kini), unbroken. Dalam sejarah squash wanita dunia, beliau kini pemain kedua paling lama menguasai ranking itu. Juga pemain Asia pertama dlm sejarah untuk menduduki ranking tersebut.
- Menjadi Juara Dunia (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010), title paling berprestij dlm squash. So far dalam sejarah squash wanita dunia, 2 pemain yg paling banyak dapat title itu ialah Nicol David (5 kali ) & Sarah Fitz-Gerald (5 kali)- Australian legend.
- 3 British Open titles (Grand Slam)
- 6 Hong Kong Open titles (kejohanan ke-3 paling mahal dlm WISPA World Series)
- 5 Qatar Classic Open titles (kejohanan ke-4 paling mahal, selepas World Open, British Open & Hong Kong Open, dlm WISPA World Series)
- Gold Medalist Commonwealth Games 2010 New Delhi
- Pemain terbaik WISPA 6 kali berturut2 (2005-2011)

Ini adalah major titles & sebahagian daripada keseluruhan 55 WISPA Tour Titles yang telah dimenanginya. Kalo lah squash berjaya masuk dlm Olmypics, tak mustahil Msia dapat first ever Olympics Gold Medal!

Sekarang, sedang berlangsung World Open 2011 di Rotterdam, Netherlands  & Nicol sedang memburu kejuaraaan dunia bagi yg ke-6! & jika beliau berjaya, satu lagi rekod dipecahkan; pemain paling banyak menjadi Juara Dunia dlm sejarah squash wanita dunia. Jika berminat menonton aksi beliau pada hari ini, tune in to Astro Ch. 801 or 811 @ 11.00 pm. Beliau dalam stage semi-final & menentang Natalie Grinham (Netherlands). Sama2 support & harap beliau menang & masuk final esok.

Adios.

Mungkin tak popular di Msia, tapi popular di arena dunia. 150 countries around the globe yg main squash & terlibat secara professional. Tak popular mungkin sebab org tak paham camane main squash ni walhal squash antara world's healthiest sports (Forbes').

TT sendiri bermain squash & hanya yg pernah bermain saje tahu camane susahnya sport nih.

Orang Msia tak tau main squash & tak pernah nk bother.

At least adalah Msian yg berjaya di arena sukan global. Kalo kata sukan popular pun mcm soccer & badminton, pernah ke atlit Msia menang major titles dunia. He he he...coverage dah meluas..publisiti bukan main, tapi results? ermm.. setakat Juara Asia Tenggara pun dah hebat sgt ke? Still a long way to go right. Yang sorang lagi, Olympic dah main, World Championship dah bape kali, tapi tak jugak menang2...takat sandar kat title pemain No. 1 Dunia BWF je lah....

Come on Msians! Applaud to someone who really deserves it.

yuppp!

It's all about how much money the sport/game can bring in!

That's why golf & rugby boleh listed dlm Olympics. World superpowers like US, China are not powerhouses in squash.

Leading countries in squash are England, Australia, NZ, Egypt, European countries.

Oucch.

mungkin silap sebut, squash thread instead of board. Selalu ke sana baca updates. Never commented. Masuk thread squash, dah lama tak updated. That's why TT yang kurang berakal ni malas & kurang bersemangat nk join di sana. Lagipun, Msians kaann...what can I expect when talking squash?

Sorry for any remarks that bother you, but take it easy man. I think I can have a greater pool of human beings reading things in here and pretty higher chance of bumping into squash fans.

bkn ape. kamu memberi pendapat sendiri. walupun hanya menjenguk thread squash. tak per.. dah kamu mintak maaf. no hal. so lain kali sila berhati-hati bila menaip. saya pun suka kalu kamu sebarkan pasal sukan kat msia ni. tp kalu melibatkan board saya kurang gemar.. tq
