Samsung is back with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, a tablet that brings the portability of a smaller slate, with a proper, grown-up operating system.
 
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7: Design & BuildThe Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is one of the slimmest things we've ever seen. Turning it sideways you'd be forgiven for thinking it had disappeared into the space between atoms -- it measures an iPad 2-beating 7.9mm across. It's astonishingly light too, at 335g, so if you throw it in a rucksack or handbag and you'll quickly forget it's there. There's not much more to say about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7's design -- it's a slim, chic and eerily light rectangle.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7: CameraNestled in the top there's a 3-megapixel camera, which might not sound very powerful, but we suspect it's been chosen to save on space. On the front there's a 2-megapixel camera, for subjecting your video-call victims of a clear shot up your nostrils.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7: DisplayThe display looks absolutely brilliant. This is a Super AMOLED Plus screen, which is the same tech employed in the gorgeous Samsung Galaxy S2 smart phone. It's eyeball-searingly colourful, and looks extremely striking. The screen has a resolution of 1,280x800 pixels, which we reckon will be sharp enough to keep your photos and hi-res video looking good.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7: OSThe Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 will ship with Android 3.2, or Honeycomb to its mates. That's the tablet-specific version of Android, and will grant you such titillating delights as tabbed Web browsing, Flash support in the browser, and a bucketload of apps via the Android Market. It's worth noting though that so far the number of Honeycomb-specific apps is quite low.
There's a task manager as well, in case you decide the tablet is doing a rubbish job of running itself, and fancy stepping in to take control, shutting down apps that have crashed and so on.

The device also includes Universal Remote Control functionality, allowing control of the entire home entertainment system – TV, Set top box, DVD, Blu-ray player, AV audio system – from one device.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7: Voice & Video Calls
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 offers both voice and video calls for better communication. There is no need to bring a headset and BT for voice calls. In addition, it is possible to call privately in public places with Receiver Mode.
Conclusion: We're very excited about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 -- it takes the size we enjoyed in the original Galaxy Tab, but offers a slimmed-down, lightweight design, Honeycomb and a speedier processor. Our first impressions are very positive, and unless it's really expensive or the battery life is appalling, we suspect we're unlikely to dislike this colourful little tablet.
