The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition

Malaysia is once again proud to play host to the 11th edition of the LIMA Exhibition, which will be held from 6 – 10 December 2011 in Langkawi.

The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition is the premier destination for aerospace and maritime manufacturers targeting the Asia Pacific growth markets. For nearly 22 years, LIMA has been serving exhibitor needs by assembling key decision makers from the defence, enforcement and civil sectors. In 2009, over 210 delegations from 40 countries gathered in Langkawi Island representing what was essentially this exact market in the world. LIMA’s carefully crafted programmes gave exhibitors the opportunity to access this invaluable market and help grow their business.

Since its inception in 1991, LIMA has gone from strength. From 150 companies in 1991, it attracted more than 450 companies from 25 countries with almost RM5 billion worth of business generated in the last exhibition held in 2009, and has now become one of the world’s premier aerospace exhibitions.

600 anggota polis jaga keselamatan

ALOR SETAR 1 Dis.

Hadir sama Ketua Polis Daerah Kota Setar, Asisten Komisioner Adzaman Mohd. Jan.

THE Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) is expected to seal several contracts at this year's Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition (Lima 2011).

Air force chief General Tan Sri Rodzali Daud said among the contracts lined up were for the acquisition of radars, sensors and communication equipment, which would beef up the country's air defence.

"Several letters of offer and acceptance will be inked during the exhibition. However, owing to budget constraints, the government is unable to approve the procurement of larger assets for the air force for the time being.

"This includes the purchase of new-generation aircraft and defence equipment."

Rodzali's comments indicated that the proposed acquisition of multi-role combat aircraft (MRCA) might not take place during the current 10th Malaysia Plan (2010-2015).

It is learnt that the RMAF was evaluating five new-generation jet fighters under its ambitious MRCA programme, worth billions of ringgit, to strengthen its defence capability in protecting the country's maritime assets within the exclusive economic zone, including oil and gas assets like those in the Spratly Islands and the Ambalat oil block off Borneo.

Among the jets considered were France's Dassault Aviation Rafale, the United States' Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, Europe's Eurofighter Typhoon, Swedish JAS-39 Gripen and Russian Sukhoi Su-35 Flanker-E.

The MRCA programme is to replace 16 Russian MiG-29N Fulcrums purchased in 1995 which are due for replacement by 2015.

"But things could change in the future should funds become available," said Rodzali.

Plans to take delivery of 12 Eurocopter EC725 and four Airbus A400M in 2013 and 2015, respectively, were on schedule, he said.

"The A400M has successfully undergone tests, while the EC725 is expected to be fully assembled by July next year to undergo tests before delivery to us in early 2013."

On the fate of the aging Sikorsky S-61 Nuri fleet, he said the RMAF had proposed for 15 new helicopters as replacements.

"Ideally, we need 27 new helicopters for proper and smooth operations. Should new helicopters not be purchased, then our option is to refurbish the Nuris to complement the EC725 fleet."

Rodzali added that the RMAF preferred to acquire new helicopters instead of refurbishing the Nuri as it would not only incur a huge cost, but also more frequent maintenance.

On Lima 2011, Rodzali said it was an ideal platform to promote the local defence industry while providing exposure for servicemen.

aritu ada pre-launch acrobatik tim malaysia..kerisakti namanya..

The Kris Sakti (English: Magic Dagger) is the recently-founded aerobatic display team of the Royal Malaysian Air Force. It will make its debut on 2011 Langkawi International Maritime and Air Show on December 2011.

Prior to the founding of the team, the Royal Malaysian Air Force relies on their Fighter Jets (MiG-29,F/A-18D & Su-30 Flanker) and Pilatus PC-7 of "Taming Sari" team for acrobatic acts. On November 19,The Ministry of Defense has announced the creation of a acrobatic team, and the team will be a joint initiative between the private sector and the government.

Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) pilots will fly four German-made, single-engine, propellor aeroplanes as the national aerobatics team during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (Lima) 2011 exhibition next month.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Extra 300L monoplanes would be in action as the Kris Sakti, a joint initiative between the private sector and the government, for the Dec 6-10 event at the Langkawi International Airport here.

The Extra 300L was designed in 1987 by Walter Extra, an award-winning German aerobatic pilot and built by Extra Flugzeugbau.

In previous Lima editions, the RMAF put up aerobatic teams like the Taming Sari, comprising Pilatus PC-7 turboprops and others, involving the MiG-29N Fulcrum air superiority and Sukhoi Su-30MKM Flanker jet fighters.

Zahid said the RMAF would also showcase its Boeing F/A-18D strike fighters and the Su-30MKM this year.

Others scheduled to perform aerial displays include the BAE Systems Eurofighter Typhoon, France's Dassault Aviation's Rafale and Sweden's Saab JAS-39 Gripen.

Zahid added other prominent aerospace segment displays included the C-17 Globemaster III, the Eurocopter Tiger, Sikorsky S-92 and AgustaWestland AW149 helicopters.

For the maritime segment, Zahid said the Royal Malaysian Navy's (RMN) KD Tun Razak Scorpene submarine would be present, along with the United States destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur, Korea's ROKS Gang Gamchan, Singapore's RSS Supreme, Australia's HMAS Glenelg and India's INS Kora.

"We will invite all members of Parliament inside our submarine to judge for themselves if the vessel's purchase is worth it," Zahid told newsmen after chairing a Cabinet Committee Meeting on Lima 2011 at the Langkawi Development Authority headquarters in Kuah on Thursday.

Zahid said the organisers expected 38,000 trade visitors and 45,000 civilians for the event, which was expected to bring in RM150 million in tourism revenue.

A total of 403 companies, including Boeing, Airbus, DCNS, Daewoo, Blohm and Voss, Embraer, Sikorsky, Gulfstream, AgustaWestland, Fincantieri, Saab, Eurofighter Typhoon, Sukhoi and Navantia -- from 35 countries have confirmed as exhibitors, a 25 per cent increase from the previous event, two years ago.

There will also be 404 delegations from 57 countries. Zahid added that there would be 26 aircraft exhibits this year as compared with 11 for 2009.

He added that there would be 12 ship exhibits as compared with 10 for the previous event.
