During the office visit, Crown Princess Elisabeth accompanied her father. The national holiday of Belgium is celebrated annually on July 21st. Independence Day celebrates the separation of Belgium from the Netherlands in 1831, as well as the formal establishment of the Kingdom.

It is a tradition in Belgian Royal family to accompany children on the first day of school. King Philippe, Queen Mathilde and Grand Duke Henri visited the Biodiversum natural sciences center. Then, they visited the Schengen European Center. Afterwards, the King and Queen and the Grand Duke went on a cruise and had a lunch on the Moselle aboard the ship M.S. Princess Marie-Astrid. Then, the King and Queen and the Grand Duke went to Remich to discover the Viti-Vinicole Institute.
