HYUNDAI SONATA FACELIFT AND VELOSTER AWAIT WINNERS AT

THE 2013 MAYBANK MALAYSIAN OPEN

SHAH ALAM, 20 March 2013 - As the official car partner for the 2013 Maybank Malaysian Open (MMO), Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) will spice things up by offering more attractive prizes for tournament players and spectators alike.

Players will stand a chance to drive away the Sonata Facelift 2.0L Executive, the ‘Hole-in-One’ grand prize for the tournament, which will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. There is also the tantalizing prospect of winning the new three-door Veloster 1.6 A/T for a lucky tournament spectator.

For the Veloster Chipping Challenge, tournament visitors holding a qualified ticket could win if he or she manages to get three consecutive hole-in-ones in the Chipping Challenge*. Participants of the Veloster Chipping Challenge will get to practice and try out the game from the 21st - 23rd of March, which is before the actual challenge date on the 24th of March 2013.

Hyundai, a sponsor of various international prestigious sporting events, has been MMO’s official car partner for four consecutive years. “The MMO is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase Hyundai’s premium vehicles that offer a great combination of design, safety, practicality and performance. It has been a partnership with tremendous benefits for us and we certainly hope to sustain this relationship,” said Mr Lau Yit Mun, Managing Director of Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd.

Apart from sponsoring prizes, HSDM will also provide shuttle services for spectators as well as tournament participants and officials. Spectators will be ferried from various pick-up points which include KL Sentral, Publika Solaris, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, The National Science Centre and Sime Darby Convention Centre Bukit Kiara to the event location during the tournament, which will be held from 21-24 March 2013.  

This year, a fleet of 34 Hyundai vehicles will be supplied to the MMO tournament. Sixteen stylish YF Sonatas will be used exclusively to transport the professional golfers and tournament officials to the tournament grounds and 18 units of the Hyundai Grand Starex will be used to transport spectators. The Starex units will also be used as evacuation vehicles.

Some of the world’s best golfers, including last year’s champion Louis Oosthuizen, will be at the 2013 MMO apart from winners of major championships such as Martin Kaymer and Charl Schwartzel. With a prize purse of RM2.75 million, spectators can expect an exciting tournament.
