ALOR SETAR: Five men with body tattoos resembling gangs that were uncovered by police recently were nabbed in two operations.
Kedah police chief Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said one of them was nabbed in Kulim at about 12.45am Saturday during Ops Ambang Merdeka.
The 21-year-old had a tattoo similar to the symbol of Gang 08, which was one of the 49 gangs banned by the Government.
DCP Ahmad said the other suspects, all from Kubang Pasu, were nabbed under Ops Cantas Khas at the Customs, Immigration & Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam at about 5.40pm on Friday. All of them are believed to be Gang 04 members. “They were walking towards Thailand when they were arrested," he told a press conference at the state police headquarters here Saturday.
DCP Ahmad said police detained 183 people in Kedah after screening 4,014 people since Ops Cantas Khas was launched on Aug 18 until Friday.
“Some of those detained were later released after police investigated them. Random checks on 1,116 cars, 1,248 motorcycles and 203 other motorised vehicles were also carried out,” he added.
