KEMAMAN: Police have detained a 26-year-old security guard at a secondary religious school here on suspicion of raping his 15-year-old girlfriend, who is also a student at the school.According to a source, the girl's father became suspicious after hearing rumours circulating of the relationship between his daughter and the security guard.
After questioning the girl, the father found out that she had befriended the suspect several months ago and was believed to have had sex with the suspect towards the end of last month.
The girl confessed to her father, claiming that she was raped by the suspect in the school's laboratory on Aug 28.
The victim's father, a teacher from Rumah Murah Ibok in Air Jerneh here, lodged a report at the Cukai police station on Tuesday morning, and the girl was sent for a medical examination at Kemaman hospital that afternoon.
Meanwhile, district police chief, Superintendent Che Suza Che Hitam, who confirmed the report, said the case was being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
Che Suza said following the father's report, the suspect was picked up while he was on duty at the school on Tuesday night.
He said the suspect would be remanded at the Chukai police station for further investigation.
