Police shot an African national, suspected drug dealer
PETALING JAYA: Police shot an African national suspected to be a drug dealer during a scuffle in Sunway Mentari flat, here, early morning today.
The suspect in his 20s was injured on his right shoulder, while his accomplice - allegedly in possession of firearm, fled the scene.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Arjunaidi Mohamed said the 12.45am incident happened when two policemen on patrol tried to arrest the suspects following information received from an arrested drug addict.
"Initially, when the policemen were patrolling the flat area, they spotted two foreign men acting suspiciously and tried to detain them. However, the two fled on foot.
"During their search for the men, the officers found a local man in his 30s, who was high on drugs. When they detained the addict and questioned him, the man told police that he bought methamphetamine from an African man who push drugs to addicts in the area," he told reporters during a press conference in the district police headquarters, here, earlier today.
Arjunaidi said when the cops searched for the dealer, they spotted two African nationals at the fourth floor of one of the flat's blocks, and tried to apprehend them.
A scuffle ensued, before one of them took out a firearm - believed to be a pistol, and pointed it to the policemen.
"One of the officers fired a shot, hitting the second suspect on his shoulder.
"However, the gun-wielding suspect managed to flee. Police are hot on his trail."
