interview terbaru ngan Yngwie Malmsteen

Ni ialah interview terbaru Yngwie Malmsteen..

Best la.. pasal topik interview bermacam2.

http://www.electricbasement.com/ ... en_february2004.htm

YNGWIE MALMSTEEN **EXCLUSIVE**

by A. Lee Graham

Posted 2/24/04

"Compromise" is not in Yngwie J. Malmsteen's vocabulary.

Neither is the "J" between his first and last names.

"That's Yngwie 'First Take' Malmsteen," laughs the shredder. "It's first take or nothing."

Fans may be shocked to know their hero prefers improvisation to perfectionism. He who sculps cascading arpeggios with neoclassical precision follows his instincts, not chord charts. He crafts chaos from ... chaos.

"Listen," insists the Swede. "If it doesn't work from the first take, why bother? You lose something when it's rehearsed over and over." And Malmsteen should know.

Since storming U.S. shores in 1983, Malmsteen has tasted success and failure. Legions bowed at his feet, while others scoffed at his insouciance. Joining Steeler in the early-'80s turned heads as the young guitarist enlivened an otherwise faceless L.A. act.

Graffiti proclaiming "Yngwie Is God!" adorned alleyways in a manner unseen since Edward Van Halen and Eric Clapton's monikers decorated the same spaces. A new speed king had arrived, and no sooner than he dropped jaws with the untitled solo piece preceding "Hot On Your Heels" on Steeler's debut, he did hard time in Alcatrazz.

No Parole From Rock 'N' Roll heralded a new force, a mercurial fretster commanding speed and taste (some would dispute the latter.) But one thing remained certain: rock music claimed a new enfant terrible. Like him or not, the cocksure musician knew his destiny - and it lay outside Alcatrazz.

Things took flight with Rising Force, the 1984 firestorm that garnered Grammy notice and "Album of the Year" accolades from Guitar Player magazine. The mostly instrumental effort virtually invented neoclassical shredding, distilling Ulrich Roth and J.S. Bach into something new.

"That was a great time," says Malmsteen. "But it was only the beginning."

Whether released under Rising Force or Yngwie J. Malmsteen nameplates, subsequent releases would feature a revolving door of talent. But each disc followed s singular vision, trends notwithstanding.

"You're not going to achieve credibility by following any scene," says Malmsteen. "Do what you want, and you will never lose yourself."

Confident words, but then confidence has never eluded the musician. He's mellower these days, having traded booze and debauchery for Florida family life. But his music remains aggressive. The newly released Attack!! proves it.

Not only do U.S. pressings feature bonus tracks (how'd that happen?!), it's crisper and more immediate than his last several outings. Engineer Tom Fletcher (Toto, Yes) ensured that sonic stamp.

"I just went for is, and I think it shows," says Malmsteen.

Fans will decide for themselves when Malmsteen hits the road in March. Paired with George Lynch, the double bill should thrill guitar fans and validate an Attack!! of uncommon confidence. After all, it's not just anyone who would slap two - count 'em, two - exclamation points to his latest effort.

Before Malmsteen packs his bags, let's catch up with the cell phone-toting maniac terrorizing Miami motorways.

Where are you?

Driving down Biscayne Boulevard!

We'll try to avoid any accidents.

(laughs) That would be good.

Attack!! lives up to its name. Not only is the production sharper, but you sound more focused than you have in years.

It came about in a little bit different manner than the last three albums. First of all, the concept was there wasn't a concept. I wouldn't play anything for the guys; I'd just write stuff. I had no one in the room with me - no drum programmer or keyboard player when I was writing. I was just writing songs more or less alone.

My drummer, Patrick (Johansson), came down and I said, "OK, here's the way the song is." The first time he plays the song is the way you hear it on the album.

It was the same thing with Dougie. I'd call him up and say, "Here's the melody," and he'd knock it out in the first take without hearing the music. Usually, what happens is you write the songs and demo them and make them almost perfect. And you rehearse the band in the same room and everyone knows what to do and you go in to record it.

The spontaneous approached surprises me. I always figured you for a perfectionist.

My middle name is FT: First Take. If I don't get it done the first time around, I don't like to beat it to death. A lot of cats want to make live shows sound like albums; I want to make albums sound like the live show.

Where there's that element of surprise where anything can happen.

Exactly. That's the essense of music. Everyone thinks I'm some sort of calculating dude. It's not like that at all.

What was your goal with the new material compared with War To End All Wars and your last few albums?

No goal. No direction. No concept. No nothing. Just make it flow. If it sounds good, use it. Even though the band wasn't playing together, it was the most live-sounding record I've ever made.

Did you record the parts separate?

No. I have two studios and Patrick ... he recorded drums in my studio called Baroque And Roll. And I put all bass and guitars on, and Derek (Sherinian) came in and did keyboards. And Dougie knocked out the vocals.

At Baroque And Roll?

At the other studio, 308.

308?

Yeah, it's named after my Ferrari.

You only have one Ferrari?

(laughs) OK, it's named after my favorite Ferrari.

Didn't your accident a few years back happen in a Ferrari?

No, that was a Jaguar.

You were known as a party animal in those days: drinking, reckless driving. Then you settled down, had a family and bought a house. Yet your music is heavier than ever. Did the aggression you channeled into partying wind up more focused in your music?

That's a good question. Way back when I was a womanizing, drug-using, drinking, crazy mother*****er, I wrote one of the wimpiest songs I ever wrote: "Heaven Tonight." ****** fag shit! Now, I'm very stable with my life. I have a regimen: I get up, play tennis and go to the studio, and it's a very focused environment. And having a kid made a big difference.

Yet your music sounds more savage despite your newfound lifestyle.

I live in paradise. From my kitchen, I look at swaying palm trees and blue water and write about the devil (laughs). Go figure. I'm more focused and prolific now than when I was wild. I'm still wild, though.

Just not as destructive.

Yeah.

You spoke about a regimen. Doesn't touring interrupt that routine?

On tour, it's a different kind of regimen. You do sound checks, get keyed up, rock for a couple hours. You know the drill.

Exactly. Let's talk about War To End All Wars, an album reviled for its production. What went wrong?

It was a number of things. I was going for more of a dark sound, and I hired this engineer that wasn't very good, I'm afraid. He didn't understand what I wanted, and I had a lot of problems with management. But I still think it's a good album. The songs are really good, extremely good live songs. They really come across well live.

It must be frustrating having quality material buried under a muddy mix, so to speak.

Well, today's a new day. Tomorrow's the next day. I don't dwell on that kind of shit.

Accentuate the positive.

Absolutely.

How did Yngwie Malmsteen land a contract with Epic at a time when metal - true, powerful metal - is virtually shunned in the U.S.?

I think there's a number of reasons. I think (background skidding, car horn blaring) Whoa! I almost had a car accident there!

We don't want this interview to hurt anyone.

Yeah (laughs). Anyway, there's a resurgence of melodic hard rocking metal. Because the '90s were dark days indeed.

You're saying there's a melodic metal resurgence in America?

Yeah. I'm 100-percent sure. But ending up on Epic, it was a combination of my wife being my manager. She really constructed a deal with them and made me achieve this. Attack!! is a pretty good album, too.

I understand that Rudy Sarzo has just been added to your touring band. Had you guys known each other before?

I've known Rudy for quite some time. He's a great guy. In fact, we actually opened up the Miami Hard Rock Cafe together on opening night. Me and Rudy and a drummer. Rudy comes over to my house and we drink wine, just hanging out.

Dougie White, Rudy Sarzo, Derek Sherinian, Patrick Johansson. You've got quite a lineup.

Derek's not doing the tour, though. He only did the recording.

Joe Lynn Turner and I were talking a few months ago, and we agree that Odyssey is among your best overall albums. It's got everything: power metal, ballads, instrumentals. Did his involvement make that particular album stand out in your mind, or is it simply another project to you?

I disagree in a most severe way. It's the weakest album I ever made.

Really? You think so?

It's not a bad album, but not a good one because of all the tragedies that happened.

The car crash...

Yeah, and my mother dying. Now I'm in control and really getting everything recorded the way I want it. I want to make albums I like. When I'm dust, I want people to know what I put down is what I wanted to do. I tried to play along with that (the pop metal trend) before. I mean, Odyssey is good, but that is not the way I want to make albums.

You're an artist and don't want to compromise.

I'm an artist period. You can't buy me. I am not for sale. If you want to buy what I make, that's wonderful. I'd rather sell out a phone booth and play music that really means something than play *****in' Madison Square Garden with some bullshit.

You've released so many albums over the years, but one that's stuck with me is Alcatrazz' No Parole From Rock 'N' Roll. Is there any chance of you and Graham Bonnet collaborating again, or was the split less than amicable?

They actually called me a little over a year ago. They called me up for a reunion. I wasn't saying no, but we were just talking. When we (Malmsteen, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai) did the G3 tour, the (Alcatrazz) drummer (Jan Uvena) came to some of the shows. So yeah, I've been talking to everybody. I mean, at the time (early-'80s), we had a few run-ins.

So did those talks go anywhere?

I had a different manager, and nothing ever came out of it.

Would you like to do that, have an Alcatrazz reunion?

Yes. But I'm really busy now. I just recorded 40 new songs and am going back on the road.

You mentioned G3. That must have been quite a tour. Did you and Joe and Steve get along?

I've known Steve for 20 years.

From when he took your place in Alcatrazz?

Yeah. And Billy Sheehan's a great friend of mine. He was on the (G3) tour, too (in Vai's band).

What were the high points?

I don't remember exactly (laughs). But it was great.

Did you know Steve before Alcatrazz?

When I left Alcatrazz, they had him come in. We got together, our managers and us. We had barbecues. He'd come over to my house.

OK. I can resist no longer. What's the real story behind the infamous "unleash the ****** fury" tape?

(laughs) What happened was a sick story, but a true one. Back in 1988, I was flying to Japan for a tour and everyone was sitting in first class. Me and Joe (Lynn Turner) got *****ed up really bad. My keyboard player was being really nasty.

Jens Johansson?

Yeah. When served dinner, he put Bloody Mary mix on a female napkin. We were screaming and yelling and drinking all the cognac. After a while, we fell asleep. All of a sudden, this lady pours a pitcher of ice water on us. I wasn't happy about that.

I'll bet.

I tried to kill her, but her bodyguard brought me down. And I said, "You release the ****** fury."

In the "Guilty Pleasures" section of the new Guitar World magazine, you cite Abba's "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" as a favorite song. Any other favorites that might surprise your fans?

I like ZZ Top. Queen. Genesis.

I know you're a big Evanescence fan, too.

Absolutely. They're a really good band.

That might surprise your fans. They probably think Rainbow and Bach rule your CD collection.

When I hear something that is good, it's good. What's good is good, and what's bad is bad. Like you. You're a writer. If you can't spell, you can't write. If you can't play an instrument, you can't play good music. It's not a matter of taste; it's good or it's bad.

You're about to hit the road. Is there anywhere you haven't played?

I haven't played Africa.

Are there many African Yngwie Malmsteen fans?

I'm not sure.

Yngwie, thanks for the time. I'll let you go before you wreck another car.

Keep up with Yngwie at www.yngwie.org.

lagu Cradle of Filth yg kira hot ...

Nymphetamine (Overdose) - album: "Nymphetamine" (2004)

Evanescent like the scent of decay
I was fading from the race
When in despair, my darkest days
Ran amok and forged her face
From the fairest of handmaidens to
A slick perverted wraith

Nymphetamine

Heaving midst narcissus
On a maledict blanket of stars
She was all three wishes
Sex, sex, sex

A lover hung on her death row
I was hooked on her disease
Highly strung like Cupid's bow
Whose arrows hungered meat
And the blinding flare of passion
In the shade of narrow streets
Where their poison never rationed
All the tips they left in me

Two tracks
Bric-a-brac
Something passed between us
Like a bad crack
Upward-lit
I'd met another kind

Of rat
In fact
With every rome inside me
Licked and ransacked
She haunted at the corners of my mind

In black
Cataracts
Wouldn't whitewash away
Her filthy smoke stack
She burnt me like a furnace
For my future suicide

Lead to the river
Midsummer, I waved
A 'V'' of black swans
On with hope to the grave
All through Red September
With skies fire-paved
I begged you appear
Like a thorn for the holy ones

Cold was my soul
Untold was the pain
I faced when you left me
A rose in the rain
So I swore to the razor
That never, enchained
Would your dark nails of faith
Be pushed through my veins again

Bared on your tomb
I'm a prayer for your loneliness
And would you ever soon
Come above unto me?
For once upon a time
From the binds of your lowliness
I could always find
The right slot for your sacred key

Six feet deep is the incision
In my heart, that barless prison
Discolours all with tunnel vision
Sunsetter
Nymphetamine
Sick and weak from my condition
This lust, a vampyric addiction
To her alone in full submission
None better
Nymphetamine

Nymphetamine, nymphetamine
Nymphetamine girl
Nymphetamine, nymphetamine
My nymphetamine girl

Wracked with your charm
I am circled like prey
Back in the forest
Where whispers persuade
More sugar trails
More white lady laid
Than pillars of salt

Fold to my arms
Hold their mesmeric sway
And dance her to the moon
As we did in those golden days

Christening stars
I remember the way
We were needle and spoon
Mislaid in the burning hay

Bared on your tomb
I'm a prayer for your loneliness
And would you ever soon
Come above unto me?
For once upon a time
From the binds of your lowliness
I could always find
The right slot for your sacred key

Six feet deep is the incision
In my heart, that barless prison
Discolours all with tunnel vision
Sunsetter
Nymphetamine
Sick and weak from my condition
This lust, a vampyric addiction
To her alone in full submission
None better
Nymphetamine

Sunsetter
Nymphetamine (Nymphetamine)
None better
Nymphetamine

Two tracks
Bric-a-brac
Something passed between us
Like a bad crack
Upward-lit
I'd met another kind

Of rat
In fact
With every rome inside me
Licked and ransacked
She haunted at the corners of my mind

In black
Cataracts
Wouldn't whitewash away
Her filthy smoke stack
She burnt me like a furnace
For my future suicide

[BONUS TRACK]

Lead to the river
Midsummer, I waved
A 'V' of black swans
On with hope to the grave
All through Red September
With skies fire-paved
I begged you appear
Like a thorn for the holy ones

Cold was my soul
Untold was the pain
I faced when you left me
A rose in the rain
So I swore to the razor
That never, enchained
Would your dark nails of faith
Be pushed through my veins again

Bared on your tomb
I am a prayer for your loneliness
And would you ever soon
Come above unto me?
For once upon a time
From the binds of your lowliness
I could always find
The right slot for your sacred key

Six feet deep is the incision
In my heart, that barless prison
Discolours all with tunnel vision
Sunsetter
Nymphetamine
Sick and weak from my condition
This lust, a vampyric addiction
To her alone in full submission
None better
Nymphetamine

Nymphetamine, nymphetamine
Nymphetamine girl
Nymphetamine, nymphetamine
My nymphetamine girl

Wracked with your charm
I am circled like prey
Back in the forest
Where whispers persuade
More sugar trails
More white lady laid
Than pillars of salt
(Keeping Sodom at night at bay)

Fold to my arms
Hold their mesmeric sway
And dance to the moon
As we did in those golden days

Christening stars
I remember the way
We were needle and spoon
Mislaid in the burning hay

Bared on your tomb
I am a prayer for your loneliness
And would you ever soon
Come above unto me?
For once upon a time
From the binds of your lowliness
I could always find
The right slot for your sacred key

Six feet deep is the incision
In my heart, that barless prison
Discolours all with tunnel vision
Sunsetter
Nymphetamine
Sick and weak from my condition
This lust, a vampyric addiction
To her alone in full submission
None better
Nymphetamine

Sunsetter
Nymphetamine
None better
Nymphetamine

Nymphetamine, nymphetamine
Nymphetamine girl
Nymphetamine, nymphetamine
My nymphetamine girl
