ZURAIDA - PAS PARTI PENGKHIANAT TAK PERLU BERI EXCO
9/25/2014|
PETALING JAYA: PAS is insisting that Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali retain the party’s four executive council members despite DAP labelling them as traitors to Pakatan Rakyat.
PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali confirmed that the party wanted Azmin to re-appoint the four in his new executive council line-up that would be sworn in tomorrow.
“Our president, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, has already informed Azmin about this,” said Mustafa.
Hadi’s political secretary Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar confirmed that the party president informed Azmin yesterday about PAS’ stand but declined to give further details.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had on Tuesday labelled the four PAS executive council members as traitors for remaining in the state government headed by Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim following his sacking from PKR.
The four are state PAS commissioner and Cempaka assemblyman Iskandar Samad, Sallehen Mukhyi (Sabak), Dr Halimah Ali (Selat Klang) and Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (Sijangkang).
The previous line-up comprised 10 members - four from PAS, three from DAP and three from PKR.
Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua, when asked whether DAP wanted Azmin to retain the party’s three executive council members and not retain the four PAS representatives, said the matter was still being discussed.
Meanwhile, Universiti Sains Malaysia Assoc Prof Dr Sivamurugan Pandian said Azmin was in a no-win situation.
“If he appoints the four PAS exco members, it could anger DAP, but if he drops them then it could upset PAS,” he said.
He said failure to resolve the problem could result in the inter-party squabble spreading beyond Selangor to the national level.
Prof Jayum Jawan from Universiti Putra Malaysia said that according to convention, a mentri besar would ask political parties in the ruling coalition or group to nominate their respective executive council members.
However, he said Azmin did have some room to manoeuvre.
“Those from PAS whom he cannot appoint as exco members can still be appointed to non-political positions, such as heads of Selangor government-linked companies,” he added.
