[size=14.0040006637573px]PETALING JAYA: Bandar Sunway and Subang Jaya residents, office workers and students will enjoy a two-month free ride on the newly launched Sunway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service, starting from today. [size=14.0040006637573px]Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said BRT-Sunway line will cater to the 500,000 population staying around the townships. [size=14.0040006637573px]It has seven stations and a Park 'n' Ride facility at the SunU-Monash station. [size=14.0040006637573px]"This is so unique with an elevated highway specifically (meant) for a public transport service. [size=14.0040006637573px]This is the first of its kind in Malaysia. [size=14.0040006637573px]The bus is fully electric and it is a zero emission vehicle," said Najib when launching the BRT-Sunway line at the BRT Sunway Park n' Ride complex here today. [size=14.0040006637573px]He said the BRT project, initiated under the Public-Private Partnership programme in collaboration with Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and Sunway Bhd, was ahead of its schedule by three weeks. [size=14.0040006637573px]"The 15 electric buses also offer WiFi service which will benefit the students around Sunway," he said. [size=14.0040006637573px]The 5.4km, RM640 million Sunway BRT is forecast to carry 2,400 passengers per hour this year and 5,200 passengers an hour in 2035. [size=14.0040006637573px]It integrates with two KTM stations at Setia Jaya and LRT extension at USJ7 station. [size=14.0040006637573px]Prasarana Malaysia group managing director Azmi Abdul Aziz said commuters can park their cars at the Park n' Ride complex, which offers 1,153 parking bays and take the BRT bus en route to Kuala Lumpur via KTM trains. [size=14.0040006637573px]"We are also offering 102 special bays for women drivers and 23 spots for the handicapped. The parking rate is RM4 per entry starting tomorrow. [size=14.0040006637573px]"Later, if the commuters use our MyRapid card for BRT service, they will enjoy a flat rate of RM4 per day," said Azmi. [size=14.0040006637573px]He added that the BRT bus fare rate will be determined by Land Public Transport Commission before the end of August. [size=14.0040006637573px]theSun understands the next plan is to finalise details for the construction of KL-Klang BRT project, which is expected to take off by end-2016.
