Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak or QSQT (From Doom to Doom) is a 1988 Indian romantic drama film written by Nasir Hussain and directed by his son Mansoor Khan. The film's plot hints to be inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The film starred Hussain's nephew, Aamir Khan, along with Juhi Chawla in their first major roles. Upon release, The movie was a major success and was declared blockbuster at the boxoffice and shot its leading stars to fame overnight. The film was also the first major hit for the music-director duo of Anand-Milind and singers Udit Narayan. It was also singer Alka Yagnik's first complete album .

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak's music, romantic storyline , and young actors shifted the momentum away from the violent and aging ethos that were prevalent in the films at the time. It also made melodious tunes once again popular over the 80's trend of disco and breakdance influenced soundtracks. Indiatimes Movies ranks the movie amongst the "Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films".

Synopsis
Dhanakpur village farmer, Thakur Jaswant Singh (Alok Nath) and Dhanraj Singh (Dalip Tahil) are brothers. They have a younger sister Madhumati, who was used, made pregnant and ditched by Ratan Singh (played by Arjun), the son of Thakur Raghuveer Singh from a big Rajput family. The family refuses Jaswant Singh's request to get his sister married to Ratan. Ratan's family refuses to accept that he is guilty, as they are interested in their status. Insulted, Jaswant decides to leave the village. Unable to tolerate the events, Madhumati commits suicide.

Frustrated, Dhanraj kills Ratan at his wedding and gets imprisoned. The two families are now bitter enemies. Jaswant moves to Delhi, develops his business, and reaches good status; he also raises Dhanraj's kids. Years later, Dhanraj gets released from the prison. Upon release, Dhanraj receives a letter from his son, Raj (Aamir Khan), an ardent music-lover, who completes his education in Rajput College. An emotional Dhanraj sneaks into Raj's college farewell party and is glad to see his son fulfill his dreams.

In a twist of fate, Raj and his buddy go to Dhanakpur to clear his family's land deal. While returning home, Raj falls for Rashmi (Juhi Chawla), a relative of Raghuveer Singh. Raj sneaks into Rashmi's birthday bash. The two meet again at a holiday spot. They become lost in the forest and fall in love while finding a way out together. Raj finds out about Rashmi's family but is unable to tell her the truth. When Randhir Singh, Rashmi's father, finds out about the affair, he immediately arranges Rashmi's wedding. The two lovers take on their families and elope, dreaming of an idyllic life together.

Furious, Randhir hires a contract killer to kill Raj. The lovers have a brief interval of happiness. They stay in a deserted fort, happy in their own paradise. When Randhir gets to know their whereabouts, he goes there to bring Rashmi home and ensure that Raj is killed. Randhir's mother does not wish for this so she goes to Dhanraj and tells him to save them. Raj leaves the fort to bring some wood for their house. While Raj is away, Randhir meets with Rashmi and tells her to come home; he has "accepted their love". Rashmi is overjoyed at her father's words, not knowing the truth. In the forest, Raj is chased by the henchmen.

Dhanraj reaches the fort and repeatedly asks him about his son's whereabouts. They get in a fight and a gunshot is heard. Rashmi leaves the scene to make sure that Raj is okay. He is just about to be shot, but on seeing Rashmi, the henchman shoots her instead. She is shot twice and rolls down the hill. Raj overpowers the henchman and reaches Rashmi's side, crying. They promise never to leave each other. On saying this, Rashmi breathes her last in Raj's arms. A grief-stricken Raj is devastated by Rashmi's death, and says that nothing can separate them. He commits suicide with a dagger given to him by Rashmi, and dies with his head on Rashmi's chest. The final scene is both families running toward them; the lovers are together, never to be separated, as the sun sets behind them.

The film was Aamir Khan's first movie after QSQT and it received much critical acclaim and subsequently three National Film Awards in 1989 and developed considerable following over the years. The film also marked the Bollywood debut of ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan, and film editor A. Sreekar Prasad.

Synopsis
As declared in the subtitles of the opening scene, the events of the film takes place in a big city in India. After the police riots of 1990, the State Forces were disbanded and replaced by a central one. The police now had more powers. The crime rate continued to escalate. In the wealthier quarters of the city though, life went on… but it was an uneasy calm.

Aamir (Aamir Khan) had just turned 21. He is from a rich family. The only colour in his otherwise mundane life was his obsession for Neeta, an older, more pragmatic woman, who likes him but does not share his plans for their future.

One night, on their way back from a party, Neeta is molested by a local crime boss, Hassan Karmali and Amir intervenes violently. On their way back home in their car, they are intercepted by Karmali and his goons and Karmali rapes Neeta, with Aamir watching helplessly. Unknown to Aamir, an off-duty police officer is a silent witness to the incident. Frustrated, possessed by impotent rage and a sense of injustice, Aamir has to find release. He leaves home... Ironically, he turns to Sub-Inspector Kapoor – the silent witness. Kapoor, pretending to be unaware of the incident agrees to help Aamir, as in spite of dancing to their tunes, Kappor hates the Karmalis and his inability to act against them.(Years ago Kapoor had taken on the Karmali clan, an unwise move that nearly destroyed his career.)

Aamir now feels he has a friend. Till one day, realizing the truth he is shattered. Soon after, S.I. Kapoor is suspended after he loses control in front of his superiors at a party thrown by Karmali and tries to shoot him. His life begins to spiral downwards. Now alone, frightened, without a job and with nothing to lose, he sees in Aamir the means to fulfill his dark, unresolved dreams which has by now taken the form of an obsession.

Together they set about eliminating their common enemy – members of the dreaded Karmali family. Kapoor the embittered cop becomes a dark mentor to the innocent but fearless Aamir. Neeta, unaware of the changes in Aamir’s life, has decided to put her past behind her. She begins, slowly but painfully, to reconstruct her life.

Meanwhile, Aamir slips into vortex of terrifying violence – a road to certain doom. While the first murder he commits drives Amir almost crazy with guilt, slowly he gets used to it and even starts enjoying it. Theirs is a war with no victors, a battle that has no glory. Amidst the lies of a logical life, sometimes the only truth is in madness, in losing control. Finally Kapoor and Amir manage to corner Karmali at his sister's wedding. As Kapoor shoots Karmali dead, he is shot at and killed by one of his corrupt ex colleagues. After Kapoor dies in his arms,Amir picks up his gun and supposedly shoots down the corrupt cop. The last scene once again returns to the opening sequence, where Amir, now on death row contemplates on the events of his short and poignant life.

Dil (translation: Heart) is a 1990 Indian Hindi romantic drama film starring Madhuri Dixit, Aamir Khan, Anupam Kher and Saeed Jaffrey. It was directed by Indra Kumar with music composed by Anand-Milind. Dil clashed with Sunny Deol's Ghayal at the box office when released and subsequently went on to become a super-hit. The film was remade in Telugu in 1993 under the title Tholi Muddhu, starring Divya Bharti and Prashanth in the leading roles. Also was remade in Bengali in 1996 under the title "Amar Ghar Amar Behesto" (My home My heaven) starring Shakil Khan & Popy. The film was 1990's highest-grossing film, establishing the career of Kumar as a director, reaffirming the position of Khan as a lead actor and turning Dixit into a superstar who also received the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance.

Synopsis

Hazari Prasad (Anupam Kher) is a miser who dreams of finding a rich young woman for his only son, Raja (Aamir Khan), to marry. However, Raja is a spendthrift who is only interested in spending his father's money on wild parties.

One day as Raja is walking to his college, a passing jeep douses him with mud and the rude response of the beautiful Madhu (Madhuri Dixit) who is driving enrages Raja. He tricks Madhu into thinking that he is blind and then mocks her when the truth is revealed. The two quickly become enemies and play pranks on each other. Raja causes Madhu to trip during a dance rehearsal, and she forces him into a fight with the school's champion boxer Shakti (Adi Irani), which Raja wins.

Meanwhile, Hazari is looking for a bride with a large dowry for Raja, only to find that his involvement in the wastepaper business makes his son a less-than-stellar marriage prospect. While visiting a lavish hotel, Hazari accidentally runs into a rich man, Mr. Mehra (Saeed Jaffrey), who has one daughter. Hazari hires actors to pretend to be his staff and gives beggars large quantities of counterfeit money to masquerade as a wealthy industrialist. He quickly becomes friends with Mr. Mehra and the two agree to marry their children to each other. However, when Raja meets his prospective bride, she turns out to be Madhu and the two refuse to consider the possibility of marriage.

Madhu takes her dislike of Raja too far on a weekend school retreat when she falsely accuses him of trying to rape her. Raja is furious that his reputation has been ruined and reprimands her for her dishonesty and thoughtlessness, pointing out that many men would take their revenge, but he is different. Madhu instantly falls in love with Raja and kisses him in front of her entire class. The two enjoy an idyllic holiday. When they return to the city for their engagement party, Mr. Mehra discovers Hazari's true financial circumstances. Furious, he insults and strikes Hazari who immediately takes offense. Raja and Madhu are forbidden by their parents to see each other again.

Nevertheless, the two continue to secretly meet. When Mr. Mehra discovers this he arranges to have some thugs beat up Raja. He also decides to send Madhu away where she will not be able to contact Raja. Before he can do so, Raja sneaks into Madhu's house and the two are married on the spot. Mr. Mehra banishes Madhu from the house, declaring that she is dead to him. Hazari also disowns Raja when he discovers that he has married the daughter of his greatest enemy. The couple moves into a small shack and Raja finds work as a construction worker. Despite their poverty, they are happy.

Raja is hurt at the construction site. Madhu goes to beg his father for money to pay for an emergency operation. Hazari agrees, but only if she divorces him. He removes her wedding necklace and, in despair, Madhu returns to her father's house. Seeing her distress, he forgives her, but orders her to never see Raja again. When Raja recovers, Hazari tells him that Madhu returned to her father and never visited him at the hospital. Believing Madhu has deserted him to return to a life of luxury, Raja returns to his parents. Later, he discovers from his mother (Sarita Joshi) that Madhu did not come to see him in the hospital because of his father's blackmail. He rushes to stop her from taking a plane to London but arrives after it takes off. Luckily, Madhu did not take the plane, and the two manage to reconcile their parents.

Soundtrack
The soundtrack was very popular when it was released., especially appealing to the younger generation. Anand-Milind were nominated for best music direction, but lost to Aashiqui, that catapulted Nadeem-Shravan to the top spot. Dil is regarded as one of the best soundtracks of its time and most of its songs were instant hits. After the film released and was a success, the makers added a new song (a common trend back then), "Dum Dama Dum", which also became popular. Dil is one of the few films with all the songs being certified hits.

The film won the Filmfare award for best movie that year.

Synopsis

The movie is set in Dehradun in north India. The movie opens with the description of the various colleges in the city. The Rajput college has students from affluent backgrounds with each student being an heir to a multimillion fortune. In contrast, the Model college has students from poor local households. Other colleges include Xaviers college and Queens college, the latter being an all-girls college with the guys from all three colleges trying to woo them.

The highlight of the town is the annual inter-college sports championship with a marathon cycle race as the prime event. In the beginning of the film, the race is contested between Ratan Lal Sharma (Mamik Singh) of Model college and Shekhar Malhotra (Deepak Tijori) of Rajput college with the latter winning the race because Ratan had an inferior bike. After the race both are felicitated by their respective schools. Shekhar being rich and now the local champion is cocky and arrogant.

Sanju (Aamir Khan) is Ratan's younger brother and is everything that Ratan is not. He's a carefree youngster who is full of himself and is always in trouble with his father Ramlal (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) , who wants him to act more maturely and become responsible like Ratan. Sanju and his little gang, which includes Anjali (Ayesha Jhulka)) (who has a crush on Sanju), bunk sports to smoke cigarettes and roam around town. Anjali and her dad run a vehicle repair shop and Anjali's father asks his daughter to stay away from Sanju.

Ramlal and his family run a small cafe which is the hangout spot for most of the college students. A number of scuffles occur between Sanju and Shekhar because of Shekhar's attempts to humiliate Ratan and his dad. Enter Devika (Pooja Bedi), who immediately catches the fancy of both Sanju and Shekhar. Initially she leans towards Shekhar but one day she misses her bus on the way to a picnic to meet Shekhar. Meanwhile Sanju asks Anjali for a car so that he can roam around town. While on his way he spots Devika and leaves his friends at the paan shop and gives Devika a lift. Devika upon reaching her destination finds Shekhar with another girl and goes along with Sanju who, although not rich, brags about his wealth.

Sanju's lie is ultimately revealed when Devika sees him dancing in the Model college group during a dance competition. After the show, Sanju and Devika break up that evening and in heated argument, Sanju fights with Shekhar's friends. Sanju is almost overpowered when his brother intervenes and chases Shekhar's friends away. Ramlal asks Sanju for the money he had given him to deposit in the bank (which he spent on Devika) which leads to a heated argument between Sanju and his dad and Sanju leaves the house

Next morning, Ramlal leaves for town and Ratan is out cycling. While going for cycling Ratan tells Sanju that his Dad has forgiven him and asked him to return home which Sanju, in anger takes on deaf ears. A heated argument and fight ensue between Ratan and Shekhar, which end in tragedy when Ratan accidentally falls off a cliff. While Ratan is in hospital, Sanju recollects his childhood with Ratan. When his father returns, he reconciles with him. With Ratan in the hospital, Sanju becomes more responsible and starts to care for his father and bed ridden brother. He decides that he will participate in the race with the help of Anjali and give it his best for Ratan. During his training, he realises his true feelings for Anjali and the two accept each other.

A day before the race, Sanju finds out about the real cause of the accident and confronts Ratan who tells him that he didn't say anything because Sanju had become responsible and closer to all of them. Ratan asks Sanju to give his best in the race if he wants to do something for him.

With his new cycle, Sanju participates in the race. The race begins evenly with both Sanju and Shekhar going head to head. Somewhere in the middle, the two fall and a scuffle ensues between Sanju and Shekhar and his friends. During this, other cyclists take the lead. Shekhar heads back on track with his friends holding Sanju back. Sanju breaks free and joins the race, catching up with Shekhar during the final laps of the race and finally beating him in the closing moments, giving Model college, his father & brother their long awaited victory.

The plot has certain similarities to the 1979 American movie Breaking Away.

Soundtrack

The music for the movie composed by Jatin Lalit and lyrics were penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri. It was nominated for Best Music at the Filmfare Awards 1993. The song "Yahaan Ke Hum Sikander" was inspired by The Who's Pinball Wizard. The soundtrack, their second collaboration, helped to launch their career. "Pehla Nasha" was the fourth film song in Indian cinema (the first one being "Jogi O Jogi" from "Lakhon mein ek" a 1971 movie followed by "Baare Baare" from Naagarahaavu a 1972 film starring Vishnuvardhan & Aarthi and the third one being Kamal Hassan starrer Tamil movie Michael Madana Kama Rajan in 1990) to be shot in complete slow motion and the trend caught up subsequently with many films and music videos. Pehla Nasha was the most popular track of the album and has become a cult song. Other popular tracks were Humse Hai Sara Jahan, Rooth Ke Humse and Arre Yaaron Mere Pyaaron.
All lyrics written by Majrooh Sultanpuri, all music composed by Jatin Lalit.

Synopsis

The wealthy Thakur Bhavani Singh (Sunil Dutt) lives in a remote region of India where he shares an intense rivalry with a local gypsy clan led by Gora Shankar (Anupam Kher). Parampara (tradition) dictates that differences are resolved with a single bullet pistol duel at the top of a hill. Years earlier, Bhavani Singh fought a duel with Gora Shankar's father and killed him.

Bhavani's son Prithvi (Vinod Khanna) returns from London and strikes up a friendship with Shankar and his clanmates, much to the dismay of his father. As Prithvi gets closer he falls in love with Shankar's sister Tara (Ramya Krishna). His father however has arranged Prithvi's marriage with the daughter of a fellow upper-class acquaintance. Prithvi is unable to make up his mind and ends up defiantly marrying Tara against his father's wishes - and subsequently marrying the girl of his father's choosing, Rajeshwari (Ashwini Bhave).

Later, Bhavani Singh discovers Tara has given birth to Prithvi's son and to his fury, orders his men to attack the gypsy colony and to kill Tara, her son and anyone who comes in the way. The Thakur's men set the camps ablaze, killing Tara but not her son, Ranvir. Shankar, who also survived the attack storms in to kill Bhavani Singh in revenge but he is arrested and imprisoned. Prithvi, tells his father that he will never acknowledge his presence again and despite living in the same house, his father will never hear his voice. Rajeshwari then presents him with the rescued Ranvir, earning the respect and love of her husband. Rajeshwari gives birth to a son Pratap, whom Bhavani Singh recognises as his true grandson. Both Ranvir and Pratap are brought up in the same household by Prithvi and Rajeshwari but both boys eventually realise that there is a difference between the two.

Gora Shankar is released from prison and returns to challenge Bhavani Singh to a pistol duel, but before the old man can respond, Prithvi intervenes and says the duel should be fought among equals and that Shankar should be duelling him, not his father. Shankar, who still sees Prithvi as his friend, reluctantly accepts and the duel is set for the next day.

Prithvi silently takes his father's blessing and heads to the hill alone. At the duel, both Shankar and Prithvi take their pistols and begin to pace away from each other. As the shot to turn and fire is heard, both men turn and aim - but only Shankar fires, shooting Prithvi in the chest. He runs immediately to Prithvi who reveals he never loaded his gun. As Prithvi dies, he tells Shankar to take Ranvir far away from his father, hoping no more blood will be shed in petty rivalry. At Prithvi's funeral, both Bhavani Singh and Gora Shankar draw their swords and challenge each other but are stopped by Rajeshwari. Shankar takes Ranvir and leaves the region for good.

Years later, both of Prithvi's sons meet in college as strangers, not knowing the identity of the other. Firstly rivals, the two become close friends but after Pratap (Saif Ali Khan) recognises Gora Shankar at Ranvir's (Aamir Khan) house, the two quickly realise that their past is linked but after years of being influenced by their respective guardians, they share a hatred of one another's families. Ranvir blames Bhavani Singh for killing his mother, while Pratap blames Shankar for killing his father.

Despite the efforts of Shankar and Rajeshwari to end the fighting which will only lead to tragedy, Ranvir ends up challenging his grandfather Bhanvi Singh to a duel. Pratap, echoing the words of his father years ago, states that the duel should be fought among equals and with that the challenge is set.

The next day Pratap arrives with Rajeshwari and Ranvir with Shankar. Just as the battle is about to start, Bhavani shows up on his horse to watch from a distance. The two brothers turn their back to each other and start to pace away. As they do this their grandfather watches them and begins to see visions of his son Prithvi as he looks at both Ranvir and Pratap. The signal to turn and shoot is given and both men turn and fire instinctively - only to see their grandfather between them having taken both their bullets. As Bhavani stumbles to the ground, he cries out for Prithvi, revealing the years of torment of losing his son. The brothers rush to the fallen old man who in his last moments tells them of his regret and hopes that with his death there is no further bloodshed.

After the funeral, Ranvir and Pratap are about to head their separate ways but stop to embrace each other as brothers for the first time.

Synopsis

Rahul Malhotra (Aamir Khan) is the caretaker of a garment company that has a pending order of two lakh shirts to Mr Bijlani. Rahul is also the guardian of his deceased sister's mischievous kids: Sunny, Munni, and Vicky. He finds it hard to control the kids, as he is new to this. When the kids cause trouble, Rahul punishes them by locking them in their room. However, the children escape and head for a carnival in town.

Vyjayanti (Juhi Chawla) is the bubbly daughter of a South Indian businessman and music-lover. Her father wants her to marry Natarajan, an Iyer-clan music legend, who is somewhat creepy. Vyjayanti refuses to marry him; as punishment, she is also locked up and escapes. She meets the three kids at the carnival and they become friends. Vyjayanti explains that she has no home so the children invite her to stay with them.

The children go to great lengths to hide Vyjayanti from Rahul. In a row of hilarious sequences, they are always one step ahead of Rahul before he can discover Vyjayanti. Two nights later however, Vyjayanti is revealed. Initially angry, Rahul sees that the children love her so he gives her a job as the children's governess. Vyjayanti begins to live with Rahul and the kids and slowly falls in love with Rahul.

Seductive, glitzy Maya, Bijlani's daughter, is obsessed with Rahul. She wants to marry Rahul, and Rahul approves, deciding that it would benefit the children. When Vyjayanti and the children find out about Maya and Rahul's upcoming engagement ceremony, Vyjayanti is heartbroken and the kids are upset, as they dislike Maya. On the day of the engagement, Vyjayanti explains to the kids that she loves Rahul and wants to marry him. The kids come up with a plan to stop the engagement. They crash the party with a dramatic act, which successfully postpones the engagement but angers Rahul. Back home, he scolds Vyjayanti and she admits that she loves him, shocking him.

The next morning, Bijlani comes with Maya to offer Rahul a second chance. Rahul defends Vyjayanti against their insults, thereby expressing his own love for her. The mischievous kids chase Bijlani and Maya out of the house with rotten eggs and tomatoes. As revenge, Bijlani and Maya set on auctioning Rahul's house. Rahul asks his workers to work overtime to make up for the shirt orders, which the supportive workers agree to. A successful two lakh shirts are made and loaded on to a truck to be delivered to Bijlani. Bijlani hires some thugs to ensure that the truck doesn't arrive on time. Much to their distaste, Rahul arrives on time with the order, and Bijlani and Maya are arrested.

Vyjayanti is reunited with her father, who disapproves of her marrying anyone outside the Iyer clan. All the factory workers, Rahul's colleagues, and the children ask him to allow Rahul and Vyjayanti to marry. With so much persistence, he accepts and Vyjayanti and Rahul are married in a South Indian ceremony.

Synopsis

It's a story of two men competing for the hand of an heiress get drawn into love – and into trying to save her from an evil criminal. Amar (Aamir Khan) and Prem (Salman Khan) are two daydreamers with a common aim: getting rich by marrying a rich heiress, Raveena Bajaj (Raveena Tandon), daughter of Ram Gopal Bajaj (Paresh Rawal). The guys run into each other on a bus and soon realise that they have a common goal. The duo fail at various attempts to woo the lady.

Finally, they decide to insinuate themselves in her house. Amar pretends to be a guy who has lost his memory after getting hit by Raveena, while Prem pretends to be a doctor. The boys don't know that Raveena's secretary Karishma (Karisma Kapoor) is the real Raveena and Raveena's actual name is Karishma. Raveena switched her identity because she wanted to find a boy who will love her, not her money.

Nobody is aware that Ram Gopal has a twin brother called Shyam Gopal Bajaj aka Teja. Teja is a criminal who has taken lots of money from Crime Master Gogo (Shakti Kapoor). Teja hopes to land the riches himself by kidnapping his brother and posing as Ram. He has also planted his cronies Robert (Viju Khote) and Bhalla (Shehzad Khan) in the household.

Ram arrives in India & Teja plans to steal Ram's money converted in diamonds. Here, Ram sees through the real nature of Amar & Prem, thus declining Raveena's marriage to either of them. The duo plan to fake a kidnapping where they will heroically "rescue" Ram. Unknown to them, Teja has planned to kidnap Ram as well.

Teja succeeds in having Ram kidnapped. The boys go to rescue Ram, but Teja makes them believe that he is Ram and finally enters Ram's household. Initially, nobody suspects a thing, but the girls soon smell a rat. The boys have discovered real identities of the girls. Prem has fallen for real Raveena while Amar has fallen for real Karishma.

The girls tell their suspicions to the boys. The boys tail Teja and soon find out the truth. Here, Ram tricks Teja and escapes the prison. However, the boys mistake him for Teja, resulting in Ram being imprisoned again – with Amar & Prem. However, Amar & Prem succeed in convincing Robert & Bhalla that Ram is actually Teja.

The boys, along with Robert & Bhalla, stop Teja. However, Ram is kidnapped along with Raveena & Karishma. The climax takes place in Gogo's lair, where the boys try to control the situation along with Ram. In a comic standoff, the real motive of each villain is revealed. However, due to the smartness of the boys, police raid Gogo's lair, thus rounding up all the criminals. Ram finally decides to have the girls married to Amar & Prem.

Later the bus stops for a tea break and the hooligans arrive at the same time when suddenly a passing convoy is attacked and the assassins try to kill the man inside one of the cars. The man using his swiftness foils the attack and manages to nab and arrest one of the attackers while killing another. The rest manage to escape the scene.

Amar, after a long fight with the head assassin Raghu, escapes prison along with several others. He then plots a scheme to go undercover as a woman to find the man behind all of this. He finds Chaubey and recognizes him as the man who killed both his parents. Eventually, Chaubey's assassins take everyone hostage in a 12-story tower in attempt to attack the CM once again, but Amar slowly but surely rids of them all. Production
Aatank Hi Aatank (‘95) was produced by director Dilip Shankar’s wife, Mangal. Initially, they had thought of naming it Aatank, and had planned to cast Shah Rukh Khan and Rajinikanth in the lead roles. However, their dates were not matching, and finally, Dilip and Mangal Shankar approached Aamir Khan, for Shah Rukh Khan’s role. Aamir agreed to do the film. This is the only film in which Aamir Khan and Rajinikanth have been seen, together.

For a sequence in the song "Aakha Hai Bombai", Aamir Khan was to play the ‘dafli’. While the unit broke for lunch, Aamir Khan walked up to the choreographer, and requested the choreographer to let him practice playing the ‘dafli’, to get the correct beat, and not look uncomfortable on screen. He skipped lunch, and practiced through the lunch break, and finally, when the sequence was shot, he gave a perfect shot.

To get a perfect look in the film, Aamir Khan bought himself a new wig and was very excited to wear it. Director Dilip Shankar was not very convinced about the look, but he did not want to disappoint Aamir, or dampen his spirits and, hence, allowed him to wear the wig in the film. Dilip Shankar says that, till date, he regrets allowing Aamir to wear the wig, and is convinced that he would have looked better without it.

Actor Rajinikanth and director Dilip Shankar became good friends while shooting for this film. Once, when they couldn’t get a good car, Dilip’s assistant sent an old, run-down car to pick up Rajinikanth. He traveled without any complaints, despite the car breaking down once. Another time, Dilip Shankar told Rajinikanth at 4 pm, that his shots were over for the day, but Rajinikanth did not leave, and waited for almost five hours, helping Dilip Shankar finish the shoot, so that they could go and have dinner together.

Aamir Khan is known for his honesty and professionalism. Once, director Dilip Shankar had requested Aamir to come in for a 7 am shift. By the time Aamir reached the sets, it was well past 9 am. Dilip Shankar expected Aamir to throw starry tantrums, when asked for the reason of delay, but Dilip was surprised, when Aamir apologized profusely, saying he had overslept.

Director Dilip Shankar, who is also the screenplay and story writer of this film, had conceived a scene of a conflict between Om Puri and Aamir Khan. However, when he discussed the same with the actors, Aamir thought, that the scene did not make sense in the film, and that they should not shoot it. Dilip Shankar thought otherwise, and shot the scene. While editing that scene, he realized that Aamir was right, and finally, decided not to keep the scene in the film.

Shankar missed a near fatal accident, while shooting for Aatank Hi Aatank (‘95). Once, while shooting on the banks of river Chenab, Dilip Shankar was so engrossed in the shot that he did not look where he was going. He almost tripped and could have fallen into an uncovered deep well, had it not been for the presence of mind of his fight director, who saved him, in the nick of time.

Synopsis

Rohit Kumar (Aamir Khan) is an aspiring playback singer while Kiran (Manisha Koirala) is an ambitious classical singer-in-training. They meet, relate to each other's sentiments, fall in love and get married. When Kiran's parents oppose their marriage, they decide to lead a separate life.

However, after marriage, Kiran's ambitions take a back seat as she feels suppressed by her household responsibilities and her son's look after. Time fails to abate Kiran's frustration until she decides to leave Rohit and start a new life all over again. Now a loner, Rohit is forced to look after both his son and his own falling career. After some obvious teething troubles, Rohit succeeds in creating a separate world for himself and his son, Sunil.

Meanwhile, Kiran becomes a huge film star. She tries to reconcile with Rohit but as luck would have it, Rohit is a proud man and misinterprets her support as her pity and things become worse. A court case is eventually filed for the custody of Sunil.

Rohit faces a tough time preparing for the case as his financial position is not as sound as Kiran's. He sells his best songs at a very low price so that he can fight the custody battle. During the court battle, Kiran's lawyer Bhujbal (Paresh Rawal) uses every possible trick to show that Rohit does not deserve the custody of his child. He even uses the information that Rohit had told Kiran (only because he felt that she had a right to know about her son's life) against him. Rohit instructs his lawyer to fight the case honestly as he does not wish to hurt Kiran and her reputation. In the end the court rules in favor of the mother and Kiran is given custody of the child. During this time, common friends of Rohit and Kiran try to explain to Kiran that Rohit had changed for the better and that he was now very much attached to his son. Kiran also realises that their son would never find happiness only with her. She tells Rohit that she will not take Sonu away and that she wants him to stay at his own home to which Rohit replies that this was Kiran's home as well. Kiran seemingly moves to get out of the house but then closes the door and smiles.

Rohit and Kiran hug each other and their son and the movie ends.

The film is an Indian Remake of Kramer vs. Kramer, but with a different ending.
