“No need for everyone to become religious teachers. Ustaz everywhere, we have enough already. What are we going to do with them after they graduate?” he said at the opening of the Sarawak Career and Training Fair yesterday.
“We need ustaz to teach us religion, so on and so forth, but not so many. That is why the Govern­ment is now taking in ustaz not as religious teachers but as administrators,” he said.
The Chief Minister lamented the lack of vocational lecturers in the state. Most of them were from peninsular Malaysia, and they would return there after two or three years of service.
Because there are no advanced diploma training centres in Sarawak, the gap cannot be filled permanently, he said.
Adenan urged the Federal Government and the Human Resources Ministry to address the issue, since industries were complaining about the lack of skilled workers.
He said he felt troubled by the number of “unemployable” graduates and was reacting to just released statistics that there were between 15,000 and 20,000 jobless graduates in Sarawak.
Unemployment has caused social problems, he said, adding that “an idle mind is the workshop of the devil”.
“Very bad policies” over the years have churned out too many graduates in irrelevant fields, creating “misfits” and youths who lack soft skills and proficiency in English, he said.
On a brighter note, Adenan praised the Dayak community for their ability to take on tough jobs.
Citing the small “kampung town” of Kapit, he said one would be surprised at the “huge” transaction values at the banks there.
This was because the Dayaks practised berjalai – the custom of seeking greener pastures – and have entered the oil and gas industry in large numbers.
“They are paid very well. Even though they were not so skilled in the beginning, they developed the skills in the end.
“So everyone should try to imagine the amount they can earn if only they have the appropriate skills,” he said.
Earlier, State Assistant Technical Education Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh revealed that due to the large number of unemployed graduates, there were more than 40,000 applying for civil service jobs.

ustaz suka bidang tugas tu...nak buat camner...mcm adenan ckp, nak buat keje lain tak boleh...skodeng lah keje paling mudah...

jadilah 'ustaz' untuk sentiasa muhasabah diri sendiri dan keluarga dan jadilah 'ustaz' sebagai saudara dlm Islam.

betul la..jdkn sebagai multipurpose ustaz..selain tggi ilmu agama, pandai jugak dlm ict ka, jd lawyer ka,engineering ka..baru ada kualiti |

jadilah apa yg kita nak jadi............. nak jadi hantu atau nak jadi buaya. Samada ada online-tak online, diri sendiri yg taulah. Tetapi Allah sudah juga berpesan jadilah manusia yg dpt memberi manfaat sesama umat yg lain. Cubalah cari pengertian 'hamblum minallah i wahablum minannaas......", ia akan meliputi hubungan online dan juga offline.

ustaz hanya tau nak komen saja... tak ada byk guna...unless ustaz blh jadi engineer ker, arkitek berbaloi jugak ambik...
lagipun skrg byk ustaz gila glemer...saling sesat menyesatkan..agaknya dah boring jadi penasihat...dok sorang2 mikir tak buat apa2 tu yang biol sampai kluarkan fatwa sendiri |

Pena itu lebih tajam drp pedang. Cakapan yg keras akan membangkitkan benci dan marah orang. Apa yg saya baca dan pelajari, muslimin diasuh untuk menjaga lidahnya. Bahasa itu lambang budi pekerti, bahasa nan indah menyejukkan hati dan bahasa tidak dijual beli. Saya cubalah terapkan apa yg terdaya. Bak air yg lembut, batu yg keras lama2 boleh juga melekukkannya. Tak begitu ke?
