Advanced IP Scanner - Simple Yet Powerful - YouTube

An IP Scanner is an application that pings IP addresses within a given local network and check if the computers using them are online or not.

Depending on the status of the recipient's IP addresses, which can be open, closed or non-responsive, different responses are obtained, and find your IP address on website https://www.ip-locations.org/. IP address scanner applications are mostly used by system administrators to check security policies of their local networks and prevent attackers from breaking into the network. Thus the importance of ip network scanner or ip monitoring

There are various IP Scanners tools available in the internet and some are even downloadable for free.

Examples of such network ip scanners are NMap and SuperScan.

Lets examine these ip address network security scanners in greater details.

Some Advanced Ip Scanners
  • Superscan
is a powerful transmission control protocol (TCP) port scanner, pinger and resolver.

It is a free connection oriented port scanning software designed to detect open TCP and User Datagram Protocol (UDP) ports on a target computer, determine which services are running on those ports, and run queries such as whois, ping, ICMP traceroute, and Hostname lookups.

  • NMap
is useful for tasks such as network inventory, managing service upgrade schedules, and monitoring host or service uptime.

Most compatible among these is NMap which can run on various operating systems such as Linux, Microsoft Windows, Solaris, and BSD (including Mac OSX).

Various port scanning types are implemented by IP Scanners such as: TCP Scanning, SYN Scanning, UDP Scanning, ACK Scanning, Windows scanning etc.

NMap offers some unusual scan features such as protocol scan, proxy scan, ICMP and idle scan.

IP scanning mechanism, uses and features of IP scanners are mentioned below.

IP Scanning Mechanism
  • Multithreading approach is used by IP network scanners such that for each scanning IP, a separate thread is created.

  • To check whether an IP address is alive or dead in the local network, it just uses ping command.
  • Its also determines the host name and MAC address of each scanning IP.
IP Address Scanner Uses
  • Provides NetBIOS information, Host and Workgroup Name

  • Finding out currently logged in Windows User
  • Checking favourite IP address ranges
  • Detection of Web servers
  • Listing currently active ports
  • Determining dead or alive systems in the network

Select Features of Ip Portscan Scanners
  1. IP Scanners enhance the security of a network by providing fast & easy ip monitoring.
  2. Scanning results can be saved to CSV, TXT, XML or IP-Port list files depending on available features.
  3. Some IP Scanners can gather more useful information from the network using available plug-ins written using JAVA codes.
Most of the IP Scanners that are available are free to download and use, and some are available at a very nominal cost upto $10 depending upon the various features that are available.
