Puppy love helped to inspire true love for two guide dog owners who claim the romance between their pets led to them getting married. Claire Johnson, 50, met her husband Mark Gaffey, 51, at a guide dog training course two years ago where they say their pets fell head-over-paws in love. It became apparent that their dogs Rodd and Venice became smitten as they played together and nuzzled throughout their training. ‘Our dogs were the class love story. Everyone used to joke about how Mark’s dog Rodd and my dog Venice were meant to be together,’ explained the new bride. After the course, the pair couldn’t bring themselves to separate the labrador-retrievers so agreed to meet up for walks and ‘play-dates’. As only 1.5 miles separated the couple their walks soon turned into coffee dates and then lunch dates and it eventually became clear that they had begun to fall for each other as well. After enjoying a whirlwind romance, Mr Gaffey proposed on Valentine’s Day last year and a delighted Ms Johnson said yes. ‘I have no doubt that our guide dogs brought us together and helped me find my true love. Much like our two guide dogs, we really are best friends and soul mates,’ explained the new bride. At their wedding in Barlaston, Stoke-on-Trent, the two guide dogs took the happy couple through the ceremony and even acted as ring-bearers. Metro
