 ‘Selfie’ a new vocabulary which describes the craze of young generation’s obsessive behavior of capturing own photo; is declared as a ‘disorder’ by the American Psychiatric Association. The declaration came in their annual board of directors meeting in Chicago. They have named this disorder ‘Selfitis’. According to their definition, this is a compulsive obsession of taking photos of own self and posting them to different social media to make up the lack of self-esteem. American Psychiatric AssociationThey have categorised this into three different degrees.
APA failed to prescribe any cure for this disorder though. Temporary cure could be achieved through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Source
