A woman received two birthday cards and a letter from her boyfriend in Vietnam - a staggering 45 years after they were posted.

Susan Heifetz from Brooklyn, New York, was baffled to receive a card from her now deceased parents posted to her 1969.

The retired NYPD employee is now 64 but the card was posted for her 19th birthday.

Amazingly, the envelope even had her mother's trademark lipstick marks on it.

The letter read "Dear daughter Susan, mazel tov" using the Hebrew for "good luck" and was signed "Love and kisses, Mamma Molly and Daddy Sam."

Several days later the mystery was further compounded when she received another birthday card from her brother also 45 years late.

Then came a card from her then G.I boyfriend Sergeant Mark Wolf keeping her up to date with his progress in battling the Viet Cong in Saigon.

At first Susan received a call from her local mail office claiming they had a letter for her marked 1969.

She said: "At which point he said to me on the back of the envelope is a lipstick mark - and at that point I started to cry.

"That was my mother's thing at that time - to seal it with a kiss."

Susan said: "It's unbelievable. I always knew that my parents watch over my family - this validates it."
