 A pilot running out of fuel decided to land his plane on the motorway and fill up at the local petrol station, according to reports. Chinese police are now trying to track down a man they suspect to be a foreign pilot after the incident in Beichuan county in the south-west of the country. The light aircraft allegedly taxied along the road alongside other cars that were queuing to fill up at the petrol station. According to reports, a police spokesman said: ‘We had a call that there was a plane driving down the road but we don’t know if it had actually been flying and had landed or whether it was just some sort of stunt.’  It has been suggested the plane could have been a home-made device created to look like a plane but without the ability to fly. ‘The man told petrol station staff he had landed because he had run out of fuel, and we have spoken to one driver who said they saw the plane land,’ added the spokesman. ‘But if that’s the case it is a mystery why we haven’t been able to locate the landing field where it took off from or landed or indeed the pilot,’ he added. After filling up and telling the petrol station attendant that the plane cost around ￡200,000, the pilot and his passenger drove off. Metro
