 A 14-year-old Dutch girl who tweeted a terror threat to American Airlines as a “joke” has reportedly been arrested by police in Rotterdam. The girl has been detained “after Rotterdam police’s own investigation", not at the request of an American organisation, according to the Dutch news service BNO News. American Airlines said that it “takes these threats very seriously” and would inform the FBI of the exchange. She then panicked, and sent a series of tweets trying to explain her prank gone wrong. “I was joking and it was my friend not me, take her IP address not mine,” she wrote, “I’m so scared I’m just a 14-year-old white girl I’m not a terrorist.” An AA spokesman has said: "At American, the safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority. We take security matters very seriously." Her “joke” and the way in which she defended herself became a viral hit on the internet, and she was sent a large number of abusive messages on social media.
