Need some reassuring about the recent news that 80s childhood classic ‘The Goonies’ is getting a sequel? According to director Richard Donner, it’s movie-making legend Steven Spielberg that came up with the idea. And, he’s already written the story. Donner revealed Spielberg’s involvement to entertainment site TMZ, in a brief update on the highly-anticipated project: “Hopefully, we’re gonna get this done. Period,” he said. “Steven loves… Steven came up with the idea of doing a sequel after 30 years.” “It was his idea?” asked TMZ’s reporter. “Oh yeah, you don’t do it without him. We’ve been trying for a while, and then he came up with another storyline,” added Donner. “He’s right on.” The news of Spielberg’s involvement will soothe the sequel worries of ‘Goonies’ fans – as the iconic filmmaker also came up with the story for the 1985 cult classic, serving as the film’s executive producer. Asked about the return of the original cast – Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Key Huy Quan, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, and Martha Plimpton – Donner has some words of advice for the former Goonies: “God knows. It’s up to them. If they have any sense they will. If they don’t, they won’t.” Come on guys, Goonies never say die! Yahoo
